That is true (didn't look at Yale's because I didn't interview and assume that was pretty much it for me either way)... at the same time, way more corroboration for Yale (quantitative and qualitative here), when, with a similar cohort size, it would seem odd not to have the same from Princeton? Though, as I said, its an abnormal year, who knows! The detective work and conjecture here is (if slightly unproductive--acknowledging my own role in it...) thrilling in itself. Best of luck to everyone ?

I can't confirm... but if we don't get rejections today/tomorrow (possibly Monday), it would seem abnormal given Princeton's past admit/reject schedule. Then again, this is an abnormal time. All this internet sleuthing on this site reminds me of Don't F*** with Cats (similarities end at the detective work, content is a little dark)

Also waiting for this.... but thinking it will be monday/tuesday of the following week (as frustrating as the wait may be). Art history seems to always get notified ahead of history admits, and the former have not come out yet.

I also probably would not... and echo what other people said: intentions aside, it might come across the wrong way. Waiting is hard, but there are some actions that could be helpful for you (if only give you some clarity)! I've copied what I found helpful from last year's thread. "Procedures vary from one program to another. You should ask the DGS at [your university] how it works there AND cc your POI. Be sure to emphasize your interest in the program and how it's your top choice. If they say it's a ranked waitlist, ask where you stand. Stay in touch, especially after visitation day [and/or ask if you can attend -- or whatever that may look like this year] at [your university] (whenever it is...)." But also, search "waitlist" in some of the earlier cycles' threads. You'll find some additional good advice. I was on a waitlist a few years ago that went down to April 14th and it was maddening (and I didn't get in!). Solidarity and fingers crossed for you.

I've seen conflicting advice about this-- so throwing it over here for some additional insight: Would someone with a JD-PhD have a significant hiring advantage in academia (history/political science/law school -- though, i get it, the market is dismal) over someone with just a PhD; or put differently, would it be worth getting the JD along with the PhD (time, cost etc.) if the hope was to teach in academia? [interested in early US territorial development/conlaw/administrative law in re: natural resource/land appropriation] --BoNuS QuEsTiOn: would applying to a joint degree JD-PhD program have the potential to hurt an application in an "all or nothing" type of way (if someone were to only get into the PhD program but the JD doesn't want them, the PhD committee consequently decides not to offer admission)? [if helpful, thinking Yale, Stanford, Penn] Thanks for any advice--y'all are the best.

"Reading between the lines" is certainly a skill imperative for grad school... but I can't quite piece together what you mean here. I see this as either a very spicy take or a modestly encouraging one (perhaps I'm just searching for some good news in 2020). Can you elaborate?

I agree and have done so, but as it is the weekend, I am worried that such an email won't be opened until the question is moot. The official offer used both phrases: "until april 15th" and "no later than april 15th", if more context helps, and the accepted school knows that I am waiting for another program's decision (and when told this I did not receive a response of "make sure you tell us before the 15th" of your final decision).
-
probably a silly question, but ... if I have been accepted to a program and have been put on the waitlist for another, do I have through april 15th to make my decision without worrying about the school dropping my funding/offer? The waitlist school said I would likely hear back on the 15th - so I'm just making sure that if I don't get off the list, I can still accept the offer at the other school before midnight on the 15th without penalty.

Out of state tuition cut down to instate, plus a stipend from the apprenticeship to help a little too. Cuts the cost to ~$12,000 from what would have otherwise(absolutely no funding) been ~$34,000

On the topic of “cash cow masters” - thoughts on a William and Mary MA (one year program)? I’m an early americanist, so being attached to and having an assigned apprenticeship at the W&M Quarterly seems like a good connection; in addition, the MA students are totally integrated with the PhD students, so I’m optimistic... but as more conversation on this thread and other areas of the history forum surrounds “cash cow masters programs” I’m second-guessing myself a bit. For added context, their funding package gives a small stipend for the apprenticeship and an out-of-state tuition waver.

Could anyone explain the significant detriment of doing a PhD at the same institution you got an MA from (assuming its a prestigious/reputable university) or MA at the same institution you got a BA from? I understand the benefit of varying intellectual setting, but say for example that you were accepted to an MA and had a great fit with a POI / department and simply wanted to continue your studies there? In theory, wouldn't it be no different than having initially been accepted into the PhD program rather than MA?

Totally didn't see this - when did you get the waitlist notification and what's your field/POI? Anyone else heard from UVA?

Any thoughts on Harvard's art history rejection posts but (at least for me, though I think for others too) radio silence on general history apps?

Any idea if all duke admits have been sent? I've seen multiple acceptance but no rejections in the results a few weeks ago; I have yet to receive a (presumed) rejection...
