  1. I've lived in Chapel Hill for about seven years. It's an amazing place to live! I've rented the entire time I've lived here, and in my experience, if you can find a house/condo/townhouse from a private landlord, it'll be a much happier experience for you than renting from any of the apartment complexes in town. Avoid Glen Lennox like the plague (it's in your price range, but trust me, it is not worth it). I suggest going on Zillow (or even Craigslist) and looking for someone who is renting out a property or a room somewhere. In my experience, because the demand for housing in the Triangle is so high, many of the apartment complexes in the area are overpriced, predatory, and horrible to their residents. Private landlords should also be more flexible about the length of a lease- all of mine have been fine with 12 months. A lot of apartment complexes will try to get you to do something longer. Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!
  2. Saw that UNC Health Behavior sent out a bunch of acceptances today. I've been checking my email so much, I think I charged my phone three times today. No interview in January, and nothing in email or on SOPHAS now. I think it's safe to say I've been rejected at this point... right?
  3. I'm in a very similar boat. It sucks. Hang in there.
  4. I think it's totally fine to email admissions and ask for an update (or an idea of when they'll be contacting you with a decision). I emailed an admissions office last week and got a generic answer saying they hope to have decisions out in early March. It didn't give me any clues about my admissions status, but knowing I won't hear anything for a while did help me chill out and stop checking my email as much.
  5. Saw the first acceptance this cycle at one of my programs posted on GradCafe today. I still haven't heard a peep. At this point, I don't really care about the decision as much as I just want an answer. I want to know where I'll be going in the fall!
  6. You just saved me DAYS of compulsively checking my e-mail and Gradcafe. Thank you so much for this!
  7. Did they specify this during the interview? I met with a faculty member before applying, so I'm hoping I still have a chance because of that... But at this point, since I thankfully have another offer, I would just love to find out either way!!
  8. Does anyone know if UNC Health Behavior admits students without interviews? I am worried because I've seen others posting that they were interviewed in late January, and I was never contacted for an interview. Do I still have a shot, or am I probably going to be rejected?
  9. I don't think an e-mail would hurt, but if the deadline for submitting applications wasn't until Jan 15, I might wait a bit. I had a December 1 deadline and still haven't heard a peep from that program.
  10. Thank you all so much for your helpful and encouraging comments. You really did make me feel a lot better! I STILL haven't heard a peep from the program. This wait has been agonizing. At this point I just want an answer- I'm not even stressing about whether I got in. Some idea of what this fall holds for me would be nice!
  11. Hey everyone! Looking for your honest opinions about my predicament. Based on what I have seen posted here, my top choice program (a PhD in Public Health at a top-ranked university) hasn't released decisions yet, but I have noticed that a couple people have been interviewed. To my dismay, I haven't been contacted about an interview, and I am wondering if this is a sign that I'm going to be rejected. I met with a faculty member before submitting my application, had a great interaction with her, and have kept up with her via email. I also corresponded with other faculty members, who suggested the program would be a great fit for me. I attended a prospective student day and met with some faculty there as well. What do you think? Should I brace myself for a rejection? Or is it possible they are accepting some people without interviews? None of the materials the department puts out about admissions indicate that an interview is a formal part of the application process. Thank you so much for your advice! I've been admitted to another program that isn't as highly ranked, so I'll be okay, but I am still desperately hoping to get into this program.
