Rekhmire got a reaction from voxanonyma in Fall 2024 Applicants
Harvard usually does interviews for Classics, not sure of the timeline, though.

I urge prospective grad students to examine your funding packages. Ask other students how long it takes them to finish vs. how much money you're getting. Take into account that your may have to self-fund for a year or more. Is that feasible for you? Will you need loans?

That's awesome - so glad I'm not the only one where are you applying? And what is your degree background like?

There's a group on facebook called the Professor is Out where you could ask for advice anonymously. It's for people who have had negative experiences, etc. in academia. They are normally very responsive.

Rekhmire reacted to Archaeogirl in Fall 2022 Applicants
Salvete everyone! I just found this forum yesterday and I am so excited to know I am not alone in all this madness.
I am not necessarily pure "Classics", but I am applying for a PhD in Ancient Mediterranean Archaeology (and most of my programs overlap with classical archaeology)
If anyone applied to the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World Program at UPenn, all interviews have been completed at this point (I was one of the lucky ones to get an interview).
Other programs I applied to are: the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World at Brown, and Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology at Johns Hopkins.
Would love to hear if there are any other archaeologists applying in this forum!
Best of luck to everyone!!

Yeah! I see you are from the UK. Public transit is so much worse in the US so outside of our biggest cities it is very difficult to live and work close together. My home town of 40k people was barely accessible by public transit (and even then it was spotty). If I wanted a job I had to commute with a car. It’s a barrier that many in the US have to getting jobs, going to college etc. I would say most people have cars in the US where I am from. Less so in places like New York or Los Angeles.

Rekhmire reacted to exhaustionandtoast in Interview - Yale NELC
Update: had the interview. It was definitely more a space for me to ask questions, but it was very low key and the faculty I spoke with were incredibly kind. I'd be thrilled to be accepted. However, the vibe was that I should apply for the MA program (not funded :/) to boost my application and try for the PhD after that. They also said program numbers haven't changed because of COVID but they have gotten more applicants this year. Should hear back in Feb/March. Anticipating a rejection, but fingers crossed!

Hi,
I haven't seen a thread for IU this year so thought I would start one. I'm planning to do an MA in NELC (Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, specialising in Egypt).

I got my NELC acceptance for Indiana yesterday. Not sure if this helps.
