Hey there, what kind of experience and education did you have? And do you have any insights or guidance to provide for the overall application and statement questions for UofT?

Hello! Hope you are well and keeping safe.

I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology back in 2015. My professional experience came afterwards since I volunteered at a local distress centre, worked at a group home, and then worked at a community resource centre. I worked for four years before being accepted at the UofT MSW program.

For guidance, I definitely encourage people to start the application process early and take the time to think about your mission statement. Think about how your application will stand out amongst everyone else who is also applying that year. I believe that there was close to 700 people who applied during my time, but they only accepted 150. Imagine being a complete stranger reading your mission statement and not knowing anything about you. How can you make your mission statement strong and unique?

Here are some questions to think about that can help with this. Do you have personal experience that can contribute to the social work field? Do you see any gaps that you want to see improvements on and if so, what are the solutions? Would you be able to contribute to UofT's faculty in a meaningful way (e.g., research)? These are important questions to consider during your writing process.

Lastly, leave time for editing and have multiple read your mission statement. It's important to receive feedback during this time!

I hope that is helpful! Feel free to ask me anything else if it comes up. Good luck with your applications!

  2. Hey everyone!

Congratulations on everyone's acceptances thus far. For people who have been waitlisted, do not loose hope! There is still time to hear back.

I am currently working part-time at my work and have a lot of time on my hands. If anyone wants feedback on their applications or want insight about it, feel free to message me! I was accepted at UofC, UofT and UofVic (but rejected at Carleton and York). I had a lot of feedback on my applications and I found this to be very useful in my success. Just want to pay it forward to to other people, if they want feedback as well! :)

I think they should send the package soon. Hopefully there will be detailed instructions on how to pay the deposit, I was hoping we can pay it online directly but I’ve been too busy celebrating and convincing myself this is real life so I didn’t really look into the deposit yet.

I kinda want to get the physical package in my mailbox to allow myself to fully believe it. ?

    Hey there!

Paying the deposit has been absolutely confusing, but I am pretty sure they want us to send it through traditional mail. I asked Angela about the deposit situation and this is what she said:

"The deposit is due at the end of May; when you submit your payment please include the confirmation deposit form and submit it directly to Student Accounts, 215 Huron Street (address is on the form)."

I am going to talk to my bank about this since I do not have cheques/money orders either - but I am sure we will be able to figure something out. I believe that different mailing companies (e.g., Canada Post, UPS) have secured ways to send cheques/money orders over. I am also willing to pay a little extra to ensure the deposit is sent over safely.

I am going to do be doing this all today, so I will update the forum if I find out any valuable information about this process! :) However, will UofT be sending a physical package through mail as well? I thought they were sending their acceptances through e-mails this year - since a lot of the information can be found on our SGS account.

Hey guys! My congratulations to everyone who got accepted to U of T! For those of you who got accepted would you be able to share the deadline date to pay the deposit in order to secure your spot? I am on their wait-list and I also got accepted to U of Calgary. The program in Calgary starts in May (super soon) but I prefer to stay in Toronto since I live here. So I am wondering if U of T will send any updates before May to those who got waitlisted .  Thank you :)

Hey there! We have to pay our deposit by May 31st.

Also, I live in Calgary currently. If you want any advice about where to live or anything like that, feel free to message me. I would be more than happy to help out. :)

  5. Just recieved my acceptance to UofT via e-mail and SGS! Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted so far. :)

I will be leaving my placement in Calgary - so if anyone is waiting to get into the clinical program through that university, a seat just opened up!

    Hi all :)

Usually just lurking on this forum! It would appear that the admission documents will be uploaded on the SGS portal. I was accepted this morning if anyone in the incoming class would like to get in touch! Good luck to everyone, and just a friendly reminder to practice self-care!

Congratulations!! Would you mind taking a screenshot or just letting us know where the admission documents can be specifically found on SGS? Thank you!

Yeah so far people have been only talking about getting acceptances to the advanced standing program. Not knowing if there were any acceptances to the two year program is making me anxious haha I tried calling the office to inquire but I'm always getting sent to voicemail!

I definitely hear you on feeling anxious! I'm waiting to hear back from York as well. I feel like the Two-Year applicants will hear closer to the end of this month...

Speaking of which, it has been going by so slowly!! Hurry up March.

You are probably right. I spoke to the admissions assistant last week who said it can take as long as Monday for the decisions (including acceptances) to be processed ..but who knows..

Did they give out their acceptances already for Advanced Standing and Two-Year this past week? I was assuming that the Two-Year program would hear a little later this month.

So we have not heard from York yet and my deadline to accept Ryerson is this Saturday. Do you guys think it might be worthwhile calling York and just asking them about my application status? I'm primarily concerned about funding as that will be a huge deciding factor for me. Does anyone know if they will give me this information? The wait is killer!

Based on last year, I think applicants heard back from York around March 23rd. I am not sure if York would give you your acceptance earlier on the phone if you did call - since they inform students on specific dates in waves. However, York would be able to tell you on the phone when they would start calling applicants about their acceptances since this did happen last year too.

What I would reccomend is asking if Ryerson would be able to extend the deadline for when you can accept - since you can explain the situation about you are hearing back from other universities. I am not sure if you have done this already. If they won't give you an extension, I would reccomend putting down the deposit just to secure your place in case until you hear back from York. It does suck that we have to do this (since I did this with another school), but it is better to be safe than sorry. I also know not everyone has the financial means to put down a security deposit, so I would just talk to Ryerson to see what they have to say.

    Hope that is helpful! :)

I am! I really hope we get word next week and not the last week of March.

Based on last year's thread, we may hear around March 27th? It's hard to say because I know it varies every year. I have also been super anxious on waiting to hear back.

  11. Congrats on everyone getting into their programs so far!!

I had a quick question for the UofT 2 Year Program. I am still waiting to hear back. I was wondering how declaring your specialization works if you are accepted? If I get into UofT, I definitely would want to go into the Mental Health and Health stream. I am just wondering if students are able to get into their specialized streams without any issues or if you have to select a first, second, and third choice for different streams?

Any insight into this process would be much appreciated!

Hello guys! Glad this forum exists. Does anybody have experience with U of Calgary's MSW?  I received an offer of admission to their clinical program which starts in May but I am still waiting to hear from U of T and Laurier (2-year MSW).

    Thanks!

I was accepted into UofC's 2-Year MSW program and I am also in clinical too. Congratulations on your acceptance! ?I am also waiting to hear back from UofT.

Anyone else freaking out waiting for UofT 2 year :(?

Same here along with everyone else! I know schools out east are really competitive, so I don't know what to expect. ? I will probably feel anxious until I hear from them.

  14. Hey everyone!

I came across this thread yesterday and I am super happy that it exists! I have been waiting in anxiety for school acceptances, but I am glad that I am able to have an outlet here.

I have applied to five different schools for the 2-year MSW programs since I have a background in Psychology. So far, I have been declined by Carleton. However, I was accepted into UofC yesterday for their clinical stream. I am still waiting to hear back from UofVic, UofT and York.

I am hoping to hear back soon from the other schools soon, but I know UofT - for example - will stat notifying their two-year applicants most likely by the end of March to even mid April. I am hoping to hear sooner than later, since UofC's clinical stream starts in May this year. I am hoping that I will have the opportunity to move out of the city and study somewhere new, but we will see! I am happy to get in somewhere at least.

Congratulations on everyone's acceptances so far! And the best of luck to everyone who is still waiting. ?
