  1. Well I know that one of the psychology masters I was accepted to gave me until April 15. Also, the masters in criminology program also gave me until April 15.
  2. So, I got a coupon to get a free room at a casino Sunday- Thursday. April 15 happens to be a Thursday. I just booked a room at the casino! I hope to be celebrating my acceptance to a good graduate program. Either way, I will be having fun. Does anyone else have anything planned for the 15th?
  3. Ahhhhhhh, I know how you are feeling. I am wait listed at 2 Phd Programs. It is awesome to know that an average student like myself was wait listed at a PhD programs. But also, it sucks waiting so much. I know that one of my schools is meeting tomorrow to go over wait listed candidates! So, im thinking if I don't hear back tomorrow, Im not in. But, that might not be the case. Schools like to take their time. The other school said I was first on the wait list. But, only two people were offered acceptances, so my chances are a little slimmer. It will all pay off if I am accepted into a PhD program. I have wanted this for so long, so I really wish it would just get here already!
  4. Yeah, wait listed at 2 PhD program. One is telling me that I am next in line, but its a small program with 2 people. The other school has a bigger wait list and they are meeting to talk about it on Friday. I Hope to know more than. My POI there said I Should have a good chance of getting in, just cant guarantee it.
  5. Follow the money. Just because you go to an unranked school doesnt mean you wont get a job. It all comes down to how much work you do in grad school. It would be much nicer when you get your PhD to have no debt. Go for the money.
  6. I say go for it. Update your POI on anything that has change since you applied. Also, the worse that can happen, is they say No.
  7. If you are at the top of the list, you should have a good chance.
  8. I asked one schools and I found out that I was next in line. I am still waiting to hear from the other school. I believe it is okay to ask. You worked your butt off to get in, you have a right to know what position you are.
  9. Well it think its good to ask your placement on the list. If you are at the bottom of the list, there is no point in waiting out for them. Accept another offer. It's nice to know if 2 people are on the wait list, or twenty. The programs are usually open to questions.
  10. First thing, contact your program and ask them these questions. Ask how many people on the wait list. If they are ranked, in so, what number are you. You are wait listed because you are the 2nd best? I am wait listed at 2 programs. They want you, but dont have enough room. Once some ppl reject offers, they contact the wait listed folks. Contact them and remind them how much you want to go and where you are on the wait list.
  11. First, have you emailed your POI or the graduate director and ask them questions about being wait listed. You need to know if they have ranked the wait list, if so, what position are you. How many people did they offer admissions to. Update them on anything new that has happened since you submitted your application. Tell them that you are excited about the possibility of working with them if accepted.
  12. To those who are accepted, how are the financial packages coming along. I know some of you dont like to talk money. I am wait listed at two PhD programs and if accepted want to know how things on that side will look.
  13. If you will do great research and you are funded... go for it! I do not think that these people on this forum actually sits on the tenure board of their school. Also, if you do great research, and make a name for yourself, that is all that matters.
  14. I see that you have already accepted an offer. Are you not withdrawing your app from the other places?
  15. Is this just a full time, full benefits nice job? You only have less than a month left to wait, as many schools make you decide by April 15. You don't have much longer to go. Also, if your top choice came back with full funding, you would say no?
  16. Why does rank matter so much to you? Harvard, yale and other places might be great schools, but not that great in what you want to do. I feel like rank of the school shouldnt matter. You applied to all these schools, so they all must be good. Go with a funded PhD. You could get a masters, and then its a bad year for your programs and they accept few. You never know. It's hard to just give up a fully funded 5 years to go pay money at a masters program. But, it's all up to you.
  17. Why dont you email the program and ask. They will tell you how many people are on the wait list. Also, ask if they have ranked the wait list and what number you are. The number of people accepted off the wait list varies each year. Yeah, I am wait listed at two PhD Programs. I have asked these questions too.
  18. I have seen a PhD program that said if your masters thesis is well written, they will accept it and you wont have to do another one.
  19. I totally agree with the OP. I am wait listed at two programs. If you cant make a decision, at least narrow it down. If you have been accepted to 5 programs and you narrowed it down to two, turn down the three you know you arent going to. I feel your pain that. At one program, I am the next person in line. But, they only accepted two people, so I am hoping one of them turns down the offer
  20. I could be wrong. But I feel like American University had a program like that.
  21. Awesome! Thank you so much for your help!
  22. You can say that you school usually doesn't admit their own masters students. They want you to go out and broaden your research.
  23. Email her POI and graduate secretary and find out if they have been ranked yet. Also, in the email to the POI, update the POI on anything that has happened since the app has been turned in.
  24. Im also looking forward and wishing that I can say.. " yeah I am a doctoral student at..."
