  1. They sent it to my e-mail on April 24th!
  2. Officially accepted to the Advanced Standing Master's program!
  3. I got the letter! I'm accepted!
  4. Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I just CALLED them on my own accord yesterday, and was told over the phone I was accepted, but have not received an e-mail or letter! Have you heard back?
  5. Hi guys! As some of you may know, I applied to the Advanced Standing MSW Program at Stony Brook University in New York. I have been calling regularly to ensure all elements of my application have been accepted, as I am from Canada. I called yesterday to inquire if my WES had been received by the school, and a lady had told me I was accepted into the program, but to wait on an e-mail or letter. I don't know why, but I am low-key panicking. I am so hopeful that I truly am accepted, but I have never been accepted to anything just over the phone like that before. I don't think she'd say it if it weren't true, but I'm worried of getting my hopes up. What do you guys think?
  6. I was twenty-three when I applied for my Master's! I am currently still twenty-three (until Saturday)! I graduated with my Bachelor's degree on my twenty-third birthday, and it took me five years to do my undergrad (double major, minor, and undeclared minor).
  7. My WES results are supposed to be mailed to the University of Stony Brook tomorrow. Wish me luck.
  8. Really proud of you for being able to get up on a pannel in front of around two hundred people and expose yourself on such a vulnerable topic! ❤️ Sometimes, people can be so moved or hear something that resonates with them so well, that there is no more need for further discussion. That could be a possibility. Even if that isn't the case, even if for some reason this group did not relate to you, remember that your experiences, thoughts, and feelings are still valid, and you are never alone in your experiences and beliefs.
  9. Like everyone else is saying, it really depends if you feel it is worth it. For example, I accepted a placement for my undergraduate program last year. It was a few towns away, an hour drive there, an hour drive back. I didn't mind, because it was working in a field I wanted, and I was being offered placements I didn't like in my city that I knew wouldn't benefit me. If you are passionate and love the program, it won't be an insufferable experience. Despite the combined two hour commute, I still went to classes in my city, and I still worked full time in my city. Yes, I was very tired and emotionally drained, but it was exceptionally rewarding! ^^^
  10. Keep me posted! If you need a hand, let me know; I'd be happy to help! I just got update that my application has arrived to WES, and is being processed. Then my Master's program I applied to can hopefully let me know if they will accept me! ?
  11. Congratulations to all that go to this school. They have an amazing animal therapy program I wanted to do along with my MSW. Unfortunately, they alerted me that tuition was 100K USD per year, and as I'm Canadian, i did not qualify for any scholarships, and that state apparently does not take international grants and scholarships into consideration. I just definitely couldn't afford it, but hopefully one day I can do the animal therapy portion one day. Following this thread to see how awesome you all do, and to get more updates on this school!
  12. First off, I am so sorry you have to go through this anxiety! I can't even imagine how you must be feeling. Even though this is a hard time, and your mind might be racing, it is important to remember that we are humans, and of course there will always be unintentional and intentional mistakes made by humans! Accidents happen, so I hope you are not thinking poorly of yourself or anything like that. I'm sure many people have made similar mistakes. Second, thank you for sharing this post with us, because although it's hard to talk about when you're in a vulnerable state, you may really be helping someone else who didn't have the courage to ask this. My fingers are crossed for you, and I am hoping that because both programs are so similar, you will be in the clear! Please keep us posted, and I am here if you need to talk. I apologize for not being more helpful; I have not had this experience!
  13. My all time dream job would be to practice animal therapy for people with disabilities and mental illness as a social worker.
  14. Moderators and admins, I apologize if this is in the wrong thread. Please feel free to remove, merge, or move if needed. As a Canadian who has applied to my Master's in America, I was asked and required to complete a WES Evaluation in order for my application to be considered. I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this application process: how long did it take you? How much did you guys have to pay? What was your experience with your results?
  15. Hey, I have not yet been accepted to grad school, but I will also be a first generation! My parents are immigrants from Macedonia, and moved to Canada. I took Social Work and Disability Studies at the University of Windsor. As a student with a disability, it was great to learn more advocacy skills for my group, and also how to be an ally for other marginalized groups. I did a lot of volunteer work during my undergrad (over twelve volunteer placements) and was able to juggle four part time jobs on top of my full time placement. My placement was at The Canadian Mental Health Association, which I loved with my whole heart. I have applied to Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, and hope I can showcase my potential at this amazing establishment.
  16. Only applied to the University of Stony Brook. They just wanted me to do a WES evaluation and hopefully I should hear back. I'm praying more than anything that I can be accepted into this program. It'd be a dream come true.
  17. Hi there! I have also applied for my MSW at the University of Stony Brook. I have communicating with them back and forth nearly every day, but it is only because I'm an international student (Canadian), and they have requested me to complete a WES evaluation. Besides this, I have not heard back and am also exceptionally eager and anxious! Stony Brook is the only school I applied to. Hope you get accepted to both and wish you the best of luck. <3
