Did anyone also notice they announced over 2,000 awards instead of the 1500 that we anticipated?

No matter what happens tonight, all of you are valuable members of the scientific community and your research is important in some way. This is a very competitive fellowship and not getting awarded in no way means you are not worthy! Positive vibes only for the rest of the night.

Just a reflection as this process comes to an end for many of us (graduate students):
I am reminding myself that this fellowship doesn’t define my scientific worth. This opportunity is a privledge not afforded to many. I am grateful that we are able to pursue transformative questions and recognize that many of us will go on to achieve our respective goals.
Remember to breathe and get some sleep. Tomorrow will come and go but, regardless of the results, the journey is just beginning.

There is no expectation of completion for your research proposal. Especially in the case of undergraduate students who have no clue where they will be attending graduate school when they apply, it would be impractical for the NSF to expect otherwise. The exercise is designed to determine your potential as a researcher by testing your ability to form a coherent proposal based on current literature.
As far as I'm aware, as long as you remain in good standing with your graduate program there is no check-in process with the NSF. I'm curious if anyone else has heard otherwise as my limited search just now didn't return anything.

This just means NSF took away the awards of everyone last year too just to spite them.

Alright yall...last weekend to wait it out, presumably! Eat good food, hang out with friends, and take a bunch of deep breaths.

Haha, thanks! But yeah we've already obsessed over it in some of the previous pages of this thread. Feels ages away.

I made an account just to post on this thread. My advisor has funding for me, but I would REALLY like to feel more secure. This entire waiting process has been weeks of internal screaming on my end. I reread my application materials twice - and I don't hate them. I'm not used to rereading something I've turned in and liking it. Which gives me hope, that I'm trying to quash so I'm not too disappointed when I find out the results. Cue repeat of internal screaming.

I wonder how many emails from applicants they were getting about the release date that they actually had to post that announcement

I think it will happen Early April as stated on the website. "Early April" could mean up to like the 12th I would think. But I wouldn't think it would be any later than that.

They used to have this data available, but it has been absent from their website for the last decade. You can see the 2008 cycle here: https://slideplayer.com/slide/1426742/
and up to 2004 cycle here: https://web.archive.org/web/20041207031455/www.ehr.nsf.gov/dge/programs/grf/grfstat.asp

The way I look at it, no one is getting it because it's the freaking NSF-GRFP. We all put down amazing applications, though. It's a crap shoot! No need to freak out!

Oh, I meant the deadline to accept graduate school offers. Because having good funding can play such a big role in that decision. Thank you for the clarification though!

@Calmly_WaitingIn short, it’s illegal and a federal violation (I’m an attorney). Further, if you had to withdrawal by your own accord for the pregnancy, federal law requires that you must reinstated following your leave without penalty. Both title IX and the ADA have specific legal instruction and accommodation for your situation. That said, what happens on the retail level can be quite different and stark.....but you have very specific legal protections.

I think you're probably right on it being no earlier than Friday but more likely next week. I'm just hoping it's this week so that we have enough time to figure out/finalize plans before the April 15th acceptance deadline.
Also, good luck to everyone on this feed! It's been really helpful to have a community to check in with while waiting!

Based on the “early April” statement and the government shutdown, I have a strong feeling it’d be posted no earlier than this Friday - but my guess is more like next week (Tuesday or Friday of course).
