  1. I recently received an interview invite from the PIBBS program. I'm an international, if that helps.
  2. Is this only for the NGG or for CAMB as well? Thanks !
  3. To chime in on the sorrow, interview invite for only 1 program out of 9 (US ones). Most likely I'm rejected from 2, no clue about the rest 6. Please let us know if you end up mailing any programs. I guess its has become more competitive overall this year while the funding situation remains the same.
  4. I've applied there too ! Congrats ! Was it a mass email or a personalized one?
  5. I hope they atleast send out rejection mails sooner. Every time I see a mail notification I get a mini heart attack.
  6. Thanks ! But isn't late December holiday season? Do ad-comms still work? I was under the impression that if I don't hear from any within this week then I have to wait until after New Year.
  7. Thanks ! The program is the Biomedical Sciences one focusing on Genetics and Epigenetics. The email didn't indicate anything about how many invites they sent out though, but I think its still early?
  8. Are all invites generally sent out before Christmas?
  9. Congrats ! Do you mind sharing your credentials? Thats a great list of schools And by any chance do you know if UPenn CAMB is done sending out invites? Thanks !
  10. Just received an interview invite from MD Anderson UT Health Graduate Program !
  11. Maybe they are just being nice by not handing out rejections before christmas xD
  12. I've applied to some programs from your list and I haven't heard back from any of them either. It looks like computational and neuroscience programs have sent out a lot of decisions already but cell/mol bio programs are taking their time (possibly because of larger volume of applications)? But I'm International so I wouldn't be surprised if I am rejected already ? (UPenn CAMB accepted roughly 1% of all international applicants xD)
  13. Not sure about Comp Bio programs, but several Cell and Mol Bio Programs usually share this info.
  14. I remember reading somewhere that the secondary application is only for international applicants which is why you probably didn't receive it. The application has just 3 questions - Why UT Southwestern, what do you want to research on and list interested faculty.
  15. Did anyone else receive instructions to submit the UT Southwestern Medical Center Secondary Application? The questions seem very generic, basically stuff that I spent a huge chunk of my SOP talking about. And the questions are very different from previous years. I just feel like I'm repeating stuff from the SOP again and thinking about it, I couldve used my SOP to explain other useful things.
  16. Rejection mails nightmare ruined my sleep last night xD The next few months are going to be like this I guess.
  17. I applied to Biomed (BGS) as I liked their course structure and associated faculty better. Although looking back, it might not have been the best decision because BGS severely limits its International Student intake, while there seems to be no specific limit for the Bio grad program. Would be nice if some current Penn students can comment on this. All the best !
  18. Hi ! I'm close to finishing up my applications and thought I could get some feedback from you guys. I'm primarily interested in Epigenetics and 3D genome organization. Undergrad Institution: Top 10 Research Institute in India, Integrated Masters ProgramMajor(s): BiologyMinor(s): N/AGPA : 3.7Type of Student: International Male (Bad time to be a straight brown asian male i guess :P)GRE: (not submitting anywhere, although mentioned whenever I was asked to self report / upload unoffical test scores) Q: 165 V: 164 W: 3.5 TOEFL : 118/120 Research Experience: 2 Years undergrad research (~30 hours per week - 1 published in 4 impact journal (3rd out of 4 authors) and 1 in final revision with 7 impact journal (2nd out of 2 authors - Trying to emphasize about this paper in my SOPs as just 2 people (a PhD student and me) started the project from scratch and finished it) 1 summer - Nanomaterials stuff at home institute 1 summer - International Summer Research Program in Top 50 Uni - Diversified my profile a bit by picking up techniques from structural biology and biophysics 1 year - Master's Thesis Research Project at Top 5 UK University - Not a lot of progress, but working completely independently. LOR: Undergrad research advisor - Strong LOR ; Master's Thesis Advisor - Strong LOR (plus he is American - praying it makes a difference xD) ; A course instructor who taught 2 courses which I did extremely well in. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Stipend + Research funding from a competitive Indian Fellowship. Other misc awards which likely don't make a huge difference. Not quite sure how much does funded summer research and funded master's research add to my profile as well. Or do you think I've a decent chance at getting into some place on my list? International intake seems to be dwindling every year. Greatly appreciate your feedback ! Good luck everyone.
  19. Hi everyone ! I'm a Master's student applying this cycle. I'm really confused about the program system at UPenn. I'm primarily interested in working with faculty at the Penn Epigenetics Institute at the Perelman School of Medicine. I'm not quite sure which program to apply to, can you rotate in any lab in UPenn regardless of which program you get through? Does that mean that the BGS and BGG are different only at an administrative level and not at a faculty affiliation level .ie. no faculty is uniquely associated with one program? I had written to a PI and he just said "Student of any program can rotate or get their PhD in any lab.". This is really confusing because both these programs appear to have very different applicant numbers, acceptance rates and international student intake. Whats really different between these programs then? I hope a current UPenn student or someone who had applied to UPenn clarify this. Thanks
