Congratulations!! I would totally consider this an informal interview! I am excited for you, and I hope you have a great conversation with your POI!

I also have yet to hear back from Penn State... I woke up frantically checking my email to see if they sent out invites, but nothing yet.... I am totally holding my breath waiting for a response because this is one of my top choices!

I feel you. Let's persevere through this big day, ya'll. I am on the west coast and I've received my other invitations from schools in the east around lunch time here, so maybe Penn State will do the same...

  2. I still have some questions lingering regarding UC Davis interview invitations!

Did anyone notice a few different posts asking about dev psych interview invitations in the results page appearing throughout the day but all has been removed except for one? (maybe this last one will also get removed soon) Does the gradcafe manager deletes irrelevant "results" to keep the page tidy? (But I saw many similar posts asking for POI initials, etc for other psych areas or different fields...)

Also, why do none of the few results posts about UC Davis specify which psych area?

    CURIOUS!

  3. I second @Stressed&CoffeeObsessed on respecting the schools that you've already scheduled for (unless the later invitation is from your  top choices). I've read a few posts about this and everyone seemed to recommend doing so to be fair (again, although you should tots favor your top choices) because schools know that the appealing applicants will receive/have multiple interview invitations.

I actually just had such clash happen this week and I easily asked for an alternative skype interview for the later invitation because it was from a school that I am a little less enthusiastic about.

I applied and haven't gotten an e-mail :/. Assuming if I do not receive one during standard business hours (9-5pm pacific) it means I didn't get an interview...unless there's reason to think they might send it later in the day.

Also applied and have not gotten an email. But I find it so weird that I've literally seen nothing about UC Davis on the results page today; do y'all think their interview invites are possibly delayed!? I just find it too weird nobody has posted receiving an invite from them.

Well, I hope they're delayed, because I would really love to receive an invite from them. ?

I applied to UC Davis, but for their Human Development program. I assume you applied for Developmental Psych? I hope you hear back soon!

Thank you all for responding! I haven't heard back and saw a couple of results posted...My POI made it clear during our pre-application contact that he is interested in me but wasn't sure about taking in a new student so I kind of expected it ? Still hurts. Wish us all the best with other schools!

  5. Sorry for another shout in the dark - has anyone applied to UC Davis? Their admissions page say interview invitations will go out today (12/18) but I am not seeing anyone posting in the results page and no changes in online app.

California schools are playing too hard read ? This chasing game/waiting for their response of any sort is harder than anything I’ve experienced in my dating life.

Already feeling like this is what I will be posting in a few months for all of my applications XD. Well at least there's always next year (or the next year) right?

Ugh, I just don't understand why schools just can't notify rejections in timely manner...I thought we were throwing our hundreds of dollars into their pockets to pay for such "labor and service"?

I just finished and submitted my PhD program application today.

I contacted my POI before the application process, and he encouraged me to apply. (I guess this is a good sign, right?)

Now that I am done with my application, should I send him another email telling him that I applied?

or should I just wait until the decision comes out?

    I am from South Korea

If I were applying here in my country, I would definitely send another email.

But I'm not so sure if that's appropriate in the US.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice on this.

    Thanks.

I second the post above - no need to send the POIs emails at this point.

It may be a polite act in Korea but it is most likely to annoy the POIs in the US...And the "I encourage you to apply" response is certainly nothing negative but it is a common response that profs give out to most applications who reach out to him/her.

Congrats on submitting the apps tho! Best luck with your admissions.

    Hi,

I made a mistake in my grad school application, where I clicked 'no' to the question 'do you have undergraduate research experience' when the answer is actually 'yes'. However, my CV and transcripts do show my undergrad research coursework which are uploaded onto the application, plus I also have research experience from Masters and job. Should I email the admissions committee with this correction or is it small enough to be ignored? Also, is this something that will affect my application? This was one of my top schools so kind of bummed out.

Wouldn't hurt to email the admissions committee!

Oh no! One of my cats is evil... I must appease her promptly. Do you think pugs carry the magic as well? Oh who am I kidding... unless ?

Yes, appease the majesty immediately! And definitely try a 1-1 with your pug too ?

About to try a sit-down with my cat tonight... maybe it will be more effective than refreshing the results page!! (even though I know full well I will not hear anything until January at the earliest ?‍♂️)

Do it! The earlier you start (or your cat starts), the more cat magic will be ready to enchant all your schools ?‍♂️

  10. I've been asking my cats (three!) ever since 12/1 to do some magical dances or cast spells at night to get me some interview invites. I assure them I won't take a peek at them at night or report them to talk shows/news for the magical power. And I got invitations to the final interviews from 2 schools so far!! I hope they continue the ritual until the end of this admissions process. I am getting some treats and new toys as incentives.

Animal companions! Have a sit down convo with your fluffs and try similar negotiations.

Congrats to those who heard from Rochester!! Are these official interview invites and if so could you PM me the dates? I’m waiting to have my Skype on Monday.

Congrats! Would you mind sharing the POI info via PM?

And anyone else who heard from Rochester, would you guys mind PMing me the POI information?

  12. Hi!

Sorry for squeezing in when I'm not Clinical/Counseling but this thread seem to be the most active for interview-related discussions.

What is recommended for responding to interview invitation emails?

Do you immediately say Yes! then try to reschedule later (if needed) if you get more invitations from other schools? Or do you politely ask for an rsvp deadline?

    Thanks in advance

  13. Hi, just a couple ideas!

    1. If you already have a list of schools in mind, you should definitely check out their admissions criteria (if they have cut-off scores for GRE) or past admissions stat.

    2. Check out the GradCafe forum of your field or talk to your classmates/co-workers to see which scores do people usually shoot for.

    3. Considering your area, you may get away with low Quant score but it wouldn't be a surprise if you have to have a better score on Verbal and/or Writing.

I am not in the writing or literature field so I have no idea how much GRE matters. And I tots agree that GREs are horrible. But it really is worth the pain if you can avoid the risk of your application being dropped at the first cut.

    1. I think this is highly dependent by each program. I've seen that some programs send out invites as early as December and others sending out invites closer to the end of February/beginning of March. I am assuming that formal rejections would go out closer to March and April, once offers are made and accepted.

    2. Not entirely sure about this, I don't think programs openly advertise this information. You can look at the grad cafe result page to see if people have been waitlisted for the programs you applied to.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks! I will certainly check out the results page.

I noticed clinical psych and else are starting to hear back from schools. Hope we developmental applicants update about the news as well as things progress haha.
