  1. I totally get the cold rejection letter thing. Anyone who gets a Syracuse rejection knows about the infamous "Dear MFA Applicant" nonsense instead of the person's actual name. I was going to apply again this year, but my recommender told me that if a school won't respect me enough to use my name, don't go there.
  2. Again, I am painfully aware that you don't mind waiting. I need to know answers before May so I can make plans for how and when and where I can move this year. Your writing wasn't accepted. Not you. I'm sure you're a wonderful person and are committed to your writing. Being nothing but yourself in your application is fine, but separate the art from the artist. Keep writing and reading, it means everything.
  3. Uh, don't. Your (ex)professors/community workshop leaders/workshop peers can do that shit for free. Also, if the paid consultants really had your best interests at heart, they more than likely wouldn't ask for your money. It sucks, it fucking suck to get rejected, and it sucks to hear that you should keep writing and that's what'll make or break your application but it's true.
  4. Y'know, I felt this way last year. I understand your frustration, this process sucks, adcoms suck, waiting sucks, applying sucks, rejections, waitlists, unfunded acceptances suck. Basically everything sucks until you try enough times to get in. Let me ask you this: Would you want this entire process to take an entire year / a year and half rather than a couple months? Because realistically, if every adcom read every manuscript to completion, it could take that long for every schools to be out instead of by April 15th. Purgatory season would be way, way longer, and we're already maxed out on stress. My anxiety is bad enough already. Look me in my chihuahua eyeballs and tell me that everyone should wait for over a year for answers. If you want this, go a second round. The idea of getting all worked up like this and not committing to trying again is making me queasy.
  5. Tbh, this year's been really weird. Not a fan, 10/10 would not recommend.
  6. Weird, all of the poetry acceptances for U Florida are missing from Gradcafe??? I don't see any poetry waitlists either??? What's happening anymore, I don't know...
  7. ?️??️?❓
  8. I applied pretty early, like mid December because I had a bit of money left. It took them until last month to process my transcripts and now my transcript isn't under review. And well, I suppose I should keep my eye out for an email today haha.
  9. Another applicant said their portal said under review next to transcripts, but I think that just means their transcripts are under review. Yours said that before too yeah? Mine doesn't say that anymore.
  10. Thank you, as much as I want to collapse in on myself from nervousness, I'll refrain until I hear a no from Maryland (if I do). And I'm still salty about Florida never updating my portal. It still says it was received by the department. It never said it was under review or anything. What does your portal say?
  11. I hope I am too. The email didn't give me a date, just that there's a good chance a spot will open up for me. So in theory, I could be waiting until April 14th for an acceptance or 15th to be rejected ?. And where did you see rejections from Florida?
  12. I've been thinking about how under normal circumstances Maryland had four spots for poets. If I wasn't on the waitlist would I have made it in, or still been on it? The email I got initially made it seem like I was at the top of the waitlist, but I have reason to believe that it was the same form letter @turtlesfordaysgot (unless we're both at the top of fiction and poetry). The Maryland contact, Lindsay, is out until the 22nd because of Maryland's spring break. I've asked if the waitlist is ranked and where am I on that list. God bless spring break, but this is the worst.
  13. Honestly, that's me internally. I didn't even apply to UVA, but just thinking about the uncertain future makes me want to scream. Before anyone says that I will never be certain of the future, I know. I have really bad anxiety. Chihuahua in a human skin, remember?
  14. What? The green checkmarks are to say they received all your transcripts.
  15. I'm so lost
  16. It might be that your transcripts are under review. Are all of your checkmarks green?
  17. Uhhhhhh, where on the portal does it say under review? I haven't been able to find that at all??? All I can find under my portal is that they've received all my materials?
  18. ME TOOOOOOOO!!!!!
  19. Do y'all ever submit to places you really, really have no business submitting to? Because I'm laughing at myself due to the magazine I just submitted to.
  20. I have a new poem, and one of my professors approves of it more than he's ever done before. "So I think this one's a keeper." I'm gonna submit it somewhere.
  21. So I ran into a problem. Gradcafe only allows five people in one conversation. So I'm gonna have to make another conversation to not leave anyone out. Don't worry, I'll relay information between the two.
  22. Once I add everyone to the group, I'll see if there's a good time. We can have more than one meeting if it goes well, and it doesn't have to be soon. I imagine some of the people in the group have school/work/kid responsibilities.
  23. I'm adding people to the group message on here, then we'll see if there's a time we can agree on. I was planning on maybe doing a little workshop/chatting. Whichever the group is comfortable with.
  24. @NLake @cecsav @teasel May I interest you in my poetry coven meeting zoom meeting?
  25. Holy crap, I almost forgot. When the hell are we gonna have this poetry Zoom meeting/informal workshop thing? DM me and I'll add you to a group message on here. I want this to happen so bad.
