  1. University of Northern Colorado's counseling psychology PhD program! Fellow cohort members- feel free to reach out:-)
  2. Hello! Has anyone received/accepted an offer from SUNY Albany’s Counseling Psychology PhD program? Specifically with PI: JM?
  3. Thank you all for your input! I have talked to a bunch of current grad students and professors as well, and it seems like getting a good RA position is the best idea, but I am currently on a student visa in the US and would only be able to have a job for one year under this visa. Not to mention, getting the work permit is a bit of a hassle as well. That's why I was counting on masters programs as the best alternative for my situation. But I see that the general consensus is that partially funded PhDs are not preferable, especially if it's not a top choice!
  4. Hello all, I recently started hearing back from schools regarding admission decisions for the Counseling Psychology PhD programs I applied to. I received an offer from a partially funded PhD program (funding info pending), and 2 reputable (still unfunded) masters programs after my application got deferred to their masters consideration. For the PhD program, I will be classified "out-of-state" for the full length of my graduate study, which will be ~$22K each year just in tuition. So, I am wondering if I should do a masters instead, strengthen my research and clinical experiences, and apply again in a couple cycles to better funded programs? Has anyone been in this situation before? What did you do? And if anyone is in that situation now, what factors are you considering while making your decision?
  5. How often should one reach out to the DCT to check your waitlist status?
  6. Anyone hear back from Miami University's Clinical Psychology program post-interview?
  7. Same, I had already purchased a $500 flight ticket that won't even be refunded or credited in any way.. I'm so disappointed and I don't even know how to process this
  8. Thank you! Should I reach out to them immediately or give it some time?
  9. I wasn't prepared to talk about the future research projects I would like to work on. My research interests were really broad, and I found myself not able to articulate what exactly I wanted to research.
  10. Hey all, this cycle I applied to 11 programs for clinical or counseling psychology and received 6 interview invites so far, which was a good number for me. However, after finishing 4 interviews, I found out that I have been waitlisted from 2 of the ones I really like and rejected from 1. I think one of the reasons for this might have been because I didn't show diligence or self awareness that a prospective grad student should have, especially about research. In short, I don't think I prepared for them well enough. I still have 2 interviews to go and I have already started preparing for them, but I really wished I had done the same for my top choices. Is there something I can do to reach out to my PI's to show them that I am still motivated to work with them? Or if grad school doesn't pan out this year, what can I do? Please note that I am in the US on a student visa, and to stay and work here in the next year, I would still have to be on some type of visa. I appreciate your help!
  11. The faculty members of Texas A&M University are meeting right now to finalize the new cohort!!! Good luck to all applicants:-)
  12. Literally Lane Bryant’s winter sale saved my interview season! Not sure if they are still having one, but their clothes are great quality and look good on curves. Also, if you are like me and struggle with wide feet, Zappos has a great selection of wide width professional shoes. Hope this helps and you got this!!
  13. To the SIU Carbondale Counseling Psychology poster, would you please DM me your POI? Thanks!
  14. What is the best location to have a Skype interview? Will a desk in the bedroom be too informal? Or it is better to go to a library?
  15. Alright so super quick rant- I was super excited about UMass Boston's Clinical program and I worked so hard to perfect my application for it; like my ideological and research fit with the program was just *chef's kiss*. But I have been in a correspondence hell with them since over a month now because I sent my official transcripts TWICE to them but they have not received either of them (I sent both copies to the correct address I triple checked). Without a "complete" application, the graduate department does not forward applications to be reviewed, so I emailed them with my unofficial transcript and requested them to at least forward my application to the faculty while I sent over the third set of transcripts. And they said no. So now, after all the high hopes and a steep application fee ($100 I believe), I am unsure that my application will even be read because it will be "incomplete". I will be sad in my corner but if you feel sorry for me my love language is memes (brownie points if you DM me psychology memes) ,, thanks rant over
  16. To the Lehigh Counseling Psych poster, was it an individualized email or more like a mass email? please let me know!
  17. Has anyone applied to POIs DI or RW from UMD College Park's Counseling Psychology program? If yes, have you heard from them yet? Feel free to DM:-)
  18. omg me!! I am frustrated by their admin issues. I turned in my application in late November, sent in my transcripts TWICE, and my application status is still incomplete.
  19. To the Results poster who got invited for an in-person interview at University of Maryland College Park for their Counseling Psychology program, congratulations! Would you mind DMing me the initials of your POI? Thank you:-)
  20. This is so exciting, congratulations! Would you mind sharing your POI?
  21. Thank you! This really helps clear some of the confusion.
  22. Hello! So, I am a little confused about appropriate interview outfits- some sources mention a conservative, formal attire whereas others say that people don't really care as long as it's not too flashy. One website even said that wearing sneakers was okay. In short, on the spectrum of jeans, blouse, (possibly a blazer)and ballet flats to a full of pant suit with medium heeled pumps, what dress code is appropriate for clinical or counseling psychology interviews? Thank you!
  23. School: University of Missouri- Columbia Type: Counseling Psychology Ph.D. Date of invite: 12/20 Type of invite: Email from Coordinator Interview date(s): 1/24
