  1. I'm really sorry to hear that news about your friend. I would think it's likely a department decision although am also not 100% sure. My sense from all the programs I virtually "visited" is that in the event that we cannot go in person in the fall, they will simply move everything to an online format (I would be relatively surprised if they decided to defer a cohort instead). However, these were all smaller programs at well-funded private universities, so I am not sure whether public or larger colleges (that will likely be even more adversely affected economically) might end up making a different decision. I suspect that we might, unfortunately, not know that much more until June or July when we have a better sense of the status of COVID-19.
  2. Yep--just chiming in to echo this! At the places I got into, I was told that I just happened to align with what the faculty are currently working on/fit their specific need for this cycle. And, even then, there's a large luck component (I didn't get into other programs where I thought I matched well with the faculty's research interests). I think it's essential to thoroughly examine how your interests merge with faculty's and to apply widely (as one's mileage can vary significantly cycle to cycle). I wish everyone the best of luck for the fall!
  3. We also have a math/quant training beginning in early-mid August, but there's been nothing about whether it will be online yet. My program's university only just announced that they're shifting commencement a couple days ago after most colleges had already done so, so I'm expecting any announcement to come relatively late. But, based on what I know, I'd be pretty surprised if fall semester ends up being in person although hopefully everything ends up being alright for the spring.
  4. Just got a notification that MIT cancelled theirs.
  5. I'm sure it's far from comprehensive, but Harvard has a list of programs they know to offer a math camp here
  6. I got into MIT. They said that over 350 people applied with a less than 9% acceptance rate. Sorry to everyone who got rejected from them. You all are amazing applicants; I think I just happened to both get very lucky and to be well aligned with the faculty's research interests.
  7. Also got rejected from Stanford. As others have commented, it's interesting how much one's mileage can vary even among similar programs (i.e. I personally got into Princeton but rejected from Stanford but saw several people on the results thread who were the other way around (into Stanford but rejected from Princeton)). I'm definitely in a very lucky position right now, but it is interesting how much things seem to vary based on fit, and I think it is very very hard to predict anything in advance. Congrats to all who got in today though :-)!
  8. Hi all! Just wondering if any others still haven't heard from Berkeley at this point? I don't have an email from them, and nothing has changed on my portal. It seems like both acceptances and rejections have been sent out, so I was curious if anyone else was in the same position.
