    I pledge allegiance
    To the Susans*
Of the Princeton University English department
    And to the novel
    For which it stands ...

    ---
Okay I'll stop now. My heart is being pulled in 10,000 directions and beating very fast because I wasn't expecting anything over the weekend but ... I just ... got in ... to Princeton.
I know it's obnoxious but I'm posting 1. For posterity, so people know this can happen 2. Because my entire family asked me repeatedly over Christmas "What will you do if you get rejected from everywhere?" and I was so terrified because I'd worked so hard night and day on apps I didn't have an answer. And while I was feverishly working on them an awful ex-boyfriend asked to "swing by and wish me luck" a few days before the deadline and walked into my living room to say "You know you're really not smart, right? You try to make it seem like you are but you just never ... produce much of anything" About that, luv. About that.
I felt like a loser for two years after a particularly shitty time during my masters, and I've struggled with having zero self confidence even longer than that. I have had embarrassing failures that made a huge dent in my ability to move forward. This? It can happen. Admissions is a wildly unfair process and I think more than anything I've just been incredibly incredibly lucky, but I lurked on these boards on and off for years thinking, "I'm too stupid, I'm a loser, this will never happen for me." For anyone who remotely fits that description reading this now or in future just please know that it can.

So for all of you that have had your campus visits how did they go and were they what you expected? Also did they impact or solidify your decisions?

This thread has convinced me to break out the ice cream this evening. Also, I have to put in a plug for my all-time favorite movie, Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes.

@politics 'n prose and anyone else who is waiting for UNC Chapel Hill:
I inquired about my status/when news would be released and the DGS wrote me a nice email about how my application is still pending because "while we have not decided to deny your application, at this moment both the admit list and the wait list are full. If from that larger pool we cannot create our incoming class, we will add your name to the waitlist." SO I gathered that since they have their acceptances/waitlists ready they should be sending out information soon. I would imagine tomorrow or early next week. If you don't hear anything, I would also assume that you are like me and are on a waiting list for the waitlist (lol what a concept). I do not know if the waitlists are by overall rank or by interest or by POI.
    Hope this helps!

Just chiming in here with a reminder that the DGS at Brown replied to my inquiry on the 13th saying it could be another "week or so" for decision letters to go out, and that we'll be notified via email when they do. It's been a week since then, but they could easily be planning to take until the end of next week, given her response. But, I know that's not fun news, so I'm in full support of people reaching out whenever they wish

I just emailed UNC Chapel Hill's DGS to inquire about when they are sending out news. Will update if or when I hear back.
Hope every gets a bit of good news for the rest of the week!

I finally gave in and emailed Yale because I saw more rejections went out, and they informed me that they're still making decisions. I don't know how to feel?!?!?!?!

Am I the only one sick of seeing the "Girl gets accepted to Harvard" video every time they refresh the main page? Like, good for her, but ffs, her repeated immense joy is like pouring boiling salt water into the wounds of rejection.
C'mon Brown. We're all here waiting for you. And you too, BU, I'm waiting...

As I posted here Thursday, I emailed U of Oregon, SUNY Buffalo, and Brown for updates on Thursday afternoon, since their deadlines were all mid-December, and I've seen notifications on the GC board. Even though everyone is swamped, I also thought this would be a good way to gauge how overstretched the department is, since a good friend of mine who's in a TT English professorship told me if they don't have time for you as a prospective student, they won't have time for you as an enrolled student.
Brown emailed back same day, as I already posted here, saying it might be another week. Buffalo notified me to check my portal Friday morning; I'm on the waitlist there. And Oregon finally emailed me back Friday at about 6pm with this:
"Thank you for reaching out. I understand that waiting can be the toughest part. It is my understanding from the Admission Committee that notifications are anticipated to be out by the end of February. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I do hope this helps."
Here's hoping we all get many updates this week!

Can we all just collectively close our eyes and see if we can make time jump? If it could be like, Thursday, that would be super. Or March. March would be good too.
    The continued waiting.......   madness.

Feel this so hard! I am still an undergrad but a friend bought just me a dozen donuts knowing this app cycle has not been my friend thus far. Sending good vibes to all this Valentine's Day!!

YES! Someone brought donuts in to the office, so my frantic page-refreshes are now fueled by excess sugar! All the UConn acceptances on the board make me fairly sure it's a rejection for me. Still a bunch of programs pending, but I haven't heard from any this week.

I'm making some chocolate cake and raspberry sauce, because if I have to endure admissions uncertainty on Valentine's Day, I might as well do it while eating good food.

I was waitlisted at Buffalo!!! I know it's not as cool as a straight-up acceptance, but just the fact that the admissions committee thought my application was good enough to waitlist is really, really exciting!!
It is so good to hear something that isn't a straight-up rejection!

As someone currently on a waitlist, my extremely-biased opinion is that if you're sure you won't accept there no matter what, letting them know ASAP is best

Definitely vague af. But it does seem like in previous years there have been more acceptances, so here’s hoping that there’s still a light at the end of this tunnel.
@timespentreading thank you for sharing this info with us!

@digital_lime @inchoate-eyes @onerepublic96 and anyone else waiting for Brown, here's how they responded to my email:
Thank you for your message.  The admissions process can be a somewhat lengthy and it may be another week or so for decision letters to be sent out.  When decisions are available, a link will be sent to applicants to review the letter in CollegeNET.
So...perhaps there is still hope? Or, she means "rejection letters."
