  1. I have an offer right now from a school, and I am on a waitlist for another school. I was told I would know if I was taken off the waitlist by the end of March. I like them both pretty equally, so I want to consider them both. But, I was wondering if I am alienating a potential advisor by holding onto an offer? Should I be transparent about the fact that I am considering both options? How often are you suppose to contact schools that offered you admission?? I am a first-gen student, so some of this etiquette around admission offers is foreign to me....so advice would be appreciated!
  2. I am not really sure about the admission offer timeline, and I wanted to know if it was appropriate to reach out to the PI that invited you to the official visit day. One of my schools offered me admission two days after the interview while I have not heard back in 3 weeks from other schools I interviewed at. At one of these schools, the PI said she would reach out to me in 1-2 weeks...so I am just wondering if it is appropriate to shoot her an email asking where she is at in the decision process....
  3. APA put out this graduate study report in 2018. If you look at the table, across all subfields, social psychology has the lowest rate of acceptances. I think remembering that we are in a competitive subfield in a year with an unprecedented # of applications is important to think about in case we feel the sting of rejection becoming personal.
  4. Thanks! It was BASP and the professor wanted to do an initial interview before she invited people for the second round/formal interviews.
  5. I just got an interview from CUNY. It looks like they are still deciding who to ask for formal interviews, so the decision-making process is ongoing.
  6. I heard from UBC two days ago, and I have a preliminary interview with a professor set up.
  7. Hey! Anxiety is a natural reaction to something as consequential as grad apps, so you are not alone in that feeling! You have to be really careful about how much you monitor this site because it can be a really toxic cycle of checking your schools for the slightest update. That being said, don't take stock in individual preliminary notices (unless the person indicates that the PI is someone you applied to as well). PI's all vary in how long they take to contact applicants. However, something that is pretty indicative of rejection is if you see a Visiting Day or Interview Day post, and you still haven't had an interview/invite. You could potentially still make it if you are waitlisted, but that is something to contact the school about later. Regardless of what happens, try to separate your admission decision from your sense of self-worth. I really struggled with rejection in my first round of admission decisions. Regardless of what happens, I wish you luck in this cycle!
  8. I think it depends on the person if they would be willing to reply. A lot of faculty are busy so they might straight-out ignore it. if you phrase it respectfully, you should be fine. Maybe express that you are still really interested and are hoping to gain some clarity on what part of the process the faculty member is in.
  9. LMAO I considered making a new email just to ask....but yeah I think if it is nearing the end of January and you haven't heard anything, it's fair game to ask.
  10. Yeah, I am still holding out hope because I know programs had a lot more applications to process + interviews happen in mid-late January..
  11. I am anxious about interviews and if invites have already been sent out! The waiting game has been SO HARD. I already interviewed at U of Toronto, but have you guys heard from UNC, Cuny Graduate School, Depaul, Boston College, Columbia, or Northwestern's Kellogg program?
