This isn't good news for anyone, but it's comforting to know the troll is going to be stuck on Gradcafe forever, like purgatory. They will never leave because the forum seems to be their main writing outlet instead of, y'know, writing stories.

Big mood. Maybe that troll should spend more time writing instead of being vindictive and wasting everyone's time. If we ignore it...maybe it'll go away...?

Every time someone argues with the troll, the more I don't want to be on this website.

Wanted to thank everyone for going through this together for the past months, it felt like forever! I'll be attending Brooklyn College in the fall. To those who are going to apply again next year, hats off to you -- you are some strong minds! To share another anecdote - I learned today that a writer was rejected by every school she applied but Iowa (not this year, a while ago). Just want to remind everyone again how subjective this application process can be. After all, what is good writing anyway? I will be on my way to figure that out, hope everyone here will, too, inside or outside the university system. Good luck to all of us!!!

    I’m sorry ? It’s their loss!

Still exciting that you got waitlisted there!

Update from Florida, got a very nice call from a wonderful faculty member at Florida. The reason I wasn't given an email was because they had to chop the bottom three poets from the waitlist, and I was one of the bottom three haha. Oh well.

Since the two people I turn to for creative/professional advice are telling me opposite things, I wanted to ask the internet:
If this was your first time applying and you got into more than one fully funded programs, waitlisted at more than one fully funded program, but rejected by your 4 "dream" schools (Cornell, Brown, Hunter, IWW) would you:
A ) be grateful and accept the best offer you got this year
B ) read these results as a sign to roll the dice and apply again next year believing there will be fewer apps and your manuscript will be better, and you'll get actually into one of your dream schools.

After getting an encouraging personal rejection from Iowa (fiction), I honestly feel torn about this.  I really admire the people who apply 2,3, or more times and DO end up exactly where they want. But this process has given me months of nontrivial anxiety - and so does the thought of going through it again when I don't have to (and ultimately could get in nowhere). I feel like there's a relevant aphorism out there that would tell me what to do, but I don't have a good memory for that kind of thing lol.

@Blackhole @Cristie @caramelcarrottop Not to barge in on the conversation, but are you first time applicants? It's typically harder for someone to get in to the best programs on the first try (I personally aimed for the best schools last year and got burned real real bad). There are a lot of young people that get in, but I watched a panel from Iowa on youtube full of older applicants and they came to the conclusion that the more life experience you have, the better.
And I got lost in a conversation and don't know what I was saying anymore. I don't think this is helpful but still gonna post it.

For what it's worth, it seems grad school application/admission season is essentially the living embodiment of:
    "You're tearing me APART, Lisa!"
    "Oh, hi, Mark."
I'd take things in long, breezy strides with a drink (alcoholic or otherwise) always in hand to lubricate the silence.
Also, I always miss the good stuff, but I'm so glad Facebook deleted my empty profile before Draft ever allowed me in.  What a horrifying nexus of everything I absolutely abhor.  Dodged a bullet there, fur shore.
    Phew.

That's a big mood. If Maryland accepts me I'll cry happy tears until I drive there, then continue to cry when I get there.

Just wanted to sign off and say "bye" to everyone on here! I chose my school and I'm moving on to obsessing about moving. (Just FYI - I still haven't heard from Univ Florida, Univ Alaska Fairbanks, Florida State Univ, or Northern Michigan. ?‍♀️
REMEMBER - there will be BOATLOADS of waitlist activity. People are getting in off of waitlists weeks before they normally do right now - most people applied to so many programs and will only go to one.

HANG IN THERE and keep your hopes up!

Thing is I don't see any poetry waitlists. Also this year has been really freaking weird. Maryland's waitlists coming after rejections, New Hampshire's acceptance of me weeks after other acceptances and waitlists, UNO accepting me without all my materials. I don't know what's going to happen.

Good news and bad. I emailed Michael Hofmann about my program status, and William Logan got back with me and said Michael Hofmann just went on sabbatical, and said that he is sorry to say that I have not been admitted to the program, and he encouraged me to apply again next year when they have more funding to accept more applicants. He was super nice, and I think they are sending out all rejections on Thursday.
Good news is that if Michael Hofmann is on sabbatical, I don't feel too down about not getting accepted since he was the reason I applied.
Now it's down to BU and my waitlists...no anxiety at all lol

Don’t collapse! A waitlist is good news no matter what. It means they really wanted to accept you, but just didn’t have enough spots. You should feel very proud ? I hope a space opens up soon so you don’t have to spend weeks in anxiety.

It just says received as well...don’t know if that means anything. Have you heard of their status changing from other applicants?

I've been thinking about how under normal circumstances Maryland had four spots for poets. If I wasn't on the waitlist would I have made it in, or still been on it? The email I got initially made it seem like I was at the top of the waitlist, but I have reason to believe that it was the same form letter @turtlesfordaysgot (unless we're both at the top of fiction and poetry). The Maryland contact, Lindsay, is out until the 22nd because of Maryland's spring break. I've asked if the waitlist is ranked and where am I on that list. God bless spring break, but this is the worst.
