Thank you for your reply!! his is very helpful! I, too, have 6 years of experience -- but mostly from work. Some programs ask for a writing sample - can you share what sample you chose to provide, as in was it work-related or a school essay?

My programs didn’t require a writing sample, but I think I would have used a grad school paper.

  2. While research experience can certainly set you apart, I don’t think it is the end all be all for DrPH programs. I have minimal research experience but was accepted to all of the programs I applied to. I think there were a few things that helped me. I have a great deal of leadership experiences from grad school and within my work. Although only in the field 6 years, I’ve had increasing responsibilities and have actively sought out experiences that make me a better leader and public health practitioner. In my personal statement I was able to paint a clear picture of why I love public health and how the DrPH would help me make a greater impact in my area. Lastly, I had pretty solid letters of recommendation.

I hope this was helpful. I get the sense that programs really look at applicants holistically.

Thank you! Ive heard great things.

Congrats!! If you decide to go to USF, please DM me! I’ll be in the PhD program and I’m sure we’ll have classes together. It’ll be nice to have an ally going in!

Hi all! I am feeling extraordinarily lucky as I received acceptance at UNC and Hopkins and I am now trying to sort out which would be the best fit to attend. I am feeling one is a better curriculum/personality fit and the other is a better fit for my life/schedule/finances. Would any current students be willing to talk with me? I think I recall @DrPH2025and @BigTuna saying you're currently in these programs. If you wouldn't mind me sending you a direct message I'd be so appreciative!

I am also getting the sense none of the DrPH programs have financial aid options but wondering if anyone else has insight into that. Or tips on how to have those conversations. Apologies if this is the incorrect thread for this conversation!

    Congrats!! That is awesome.

Sorry I haven’t been able to check this thread.... Been super depressed and my mental health is not doing so well right now... Received a rejection last Friday and today I got email saying “check your portal” and I’m too scared to check!!! F@ck why is this so hard!!

But then I came here and saw your post, I had to laugh ? I’m sorry you tasted formula (and glad it wasn’t breast milk ?) but you gave me good chuckles!! Thank you for uplifting my mood. ???

Update: My laptop is still being fixed ? I miss my laptop..... ?

Fingers crossed for an acceptance!! ❤️

Hi all, I have received an interview from USF DrPH program. Anyone else in the same boat? Any advice on how to prepare for these interviews?

Have received rejection from UNC. Thank you!

I also received an interview invite from USF. This is my first interview, so I’m not sure what to expect.

I have heard back from all my schools, and will be accepting at UMass Amherst for CHE PhD. I have not yet confirmed this with the school. I am waiting to speak with my prospective mentor next week about the specifics of the fellowship I was awarded, so I have a better understanding of what I'm getting myself into financially. While not an "elite" school, it's a great fit for me as an arts-based researcher in Public Health and Arts in Health and I want to stay closer to home (New Jersey) because of some family matters. Nevertheless, I'm super excited! This was my first application cycle and only applied to 3 programs (it's really hard as an arts-based researcher in PH finding a good fit). Posting here in case others get accepted or decide to attend UMass, as I'd love to connect off the forum! Also happy to connect more generally if you're interested in how the arts can compliment public health research and programming. You can find me on IG @dramatichealtheducator. Good luck to you all. What is for you, is already yours. It might take a little work, but it is yours. This forum has been helpful, and I appreciate the grace you all share with each other.

    Congrats!!
