Hi everyone! I am currently working on my M.Ed in Educational Psychology, and am trying to think ahead as this degree will only take 2 years to complete (woohoo!) As I continue to learn more about each program, I am starting to think that I really like the field of Community Psych. My school has this program with a PhD option, and a professor whos interests are school bullying and child psych (aligns great with me and my M.Ed degree research). My question is, do you think there is any issue in coming from an education field background and an ed degree trying to move to a psychology PhD program? I am concerned that they will be looking for someone with more of a direct psychology background. Any opinions? Thanks in advance!!

Hi! I will be moving to Minneapolis with my SO for the upcoming school year. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for specific apartment complexes / neighborhoods? I would like something that is nearby the train / walkable... other than that we just want something ~decent~ and preferably around the $1000 mark. Not really into any of the luxury apartments, really liked the como but sadly we have a cat and they said no pets! I would appreciate any suggestions!

Oh god should I be more or less worried that I haven't heard anything. I'm going to explode

Everyone I know is waiting too! I think this week for sure is what we know, but no clue what day...
-
True! I'm going to assume if they haven't sent anything out by 5 pm today for UMN then it's probably going to be next Friday or Monday the 1st! For UCLA that's interesting, could it be that that was the date they gave pre-COVID and it's changed since then but they haven't updated it?

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Today would be awesome, but I think for sure it will be either sometime next week and at the very latest Feb 1. But I am just basing Feb 1 off of some rando post on the results page, so I'm not sure. I just want to hear soon because I am sick of waiting!

I know! I think I have a decent shot at the MA program, and that will hopefully give me better chances of getting into their PhD programs later! Discord is pretty great, there is actually a group of people that all use it that are applying to psych PhD programs! It's cool but also can be really distracting so its a toss up lol

Also waiting for UMN, I'm the dev science track! Only thing I've heard is from somebody else who said that they will make their decisions by February 1!

That’s awesome! Yeah I’m actually only applying to umn programs because my heart is set on the Twin Cities! Afterward I do want to get my PhD and ~hopefully~ eventually a faculty career! I am hoping it goes as well as I feel like it’s going! It sucks having to wait until end of March though haha, plenty of time to convince myself it’s not going well! I applied to the PhD program in School Psych, but already got a rejection, for the same reason I had a really bad application for that program haha. I also am applying to the Dev Psych PhD program but I’m not too hopeful because of how competitive it is! But I’m okay with it, because like I said I love the Psych Foundations program! Are you applying to any other UMN programs? I’d love to talk more, I can DM you my discord if you have one!

Just got a rejection letter from U Minnesota PhD program. A little sad, but definitely saw it coming! Best of luck to everybody else this cycle, I hope you all hear great news soon!!

Hi! I’m applying to the Psych Foundations in Ed MA program at U Minnesota. I’ve had a casual zoom with my PI before app was submitted, and had a zoom with two current grad students in his lab. I really really love the program! The deadline isn’t until March 1 though so it’s great seeing everyone else get good news but I have at least 2 more months of waiting ahead of me!!

Not applying myself, posting on behalf of someone I know applying! Applied to the archaeology specialization in anthropology at the University of Minnesota. Anybody else? Haven't heard anything back yet, deadline was Dec. 15!

Any tips for not being extremely nervous for interviews? Even when I have a casual zoom with somebody I still get super anxious and I feel like I mess up things I am definitely normally calm and confident about, just because I'm so anxious to get it right and make a good impression. Specifically, today I have a zoom with 2 current students and it's been a very casual set-up, explicitly not something I should freak out about... but guess who's freaking out! (Hint: it's me.)

I've heard from my potential program that getting a GA or TA as a MA student is iffy and not certain yet. In looking ahead I'm wondering if I don't get funding would it be possible to maintain a part-time job while being an MA student? I just can't see it plausible I could afford rent and groceries if I don't have some form of income.
