  1. I know they were running a bit behind schedule but is there any hope Vanderbilt isn’t done sending acceptances? Or do I look silly having Vanderbilt listed as pending in my signature.
  2. are you saying this as general advice or do they lose a lot of professors at FSU?
  3. I’m hopeful we get good news but I just can’t justify betting on it at this point. Feels like they gave us a cop out answer
  4. I didn’t interview with them and my subfield is American politics and political behavior. They reached out to me last Wednesday.
  5. It would be more productive to put work into improving your LORs, SOP, writing sample, or connecting with POIs. Those are great scores and won’t put you at a disadvantage anywhere. Even improving to perfect scores probably won’t better your application as much as improving the other aspects of it.
  6. Their website indicates 320 to 375 in a regular year so it’s interesting that a top program like Michigan didn’t get the huge (greater than double) boost in applications that other universities did.
  7. Would you recommend an unfunded masters over transferring phd programs?
  8. Absolutely. In the same way the academic job market never recovered from 2008, I don’t believe the snowballing applications and reapplications will calm down in the near future. Especially considering the departmental downsizing could be permanent
  9. What are others thoughts on doing this? How are transfers like this received by the admitting schools, how much does it set you back in time to degree, and is it super frowned upon?
  10. To those accepted at CU Boulder, did you all receive interviews?
  11. When posters/professors say things like this do they mean they hope to enroll 2 students (presumably admitting more than 2) or do they straight up mean 2 admissions and the rest rejections/waitlists?
  12. Congrats! Unfortunately I haven’t but could you share some details like what subfield you’re in, how personalized the email was etc.
  13. I believe those are still contested. Acceptances were claimed but another poster said that they contacted the department and were told no decisions had been made yet. To be clear, I'm not accusing anyone involved of lying. Just trying to recall how those events transpired.
  14. I have an interview with Vanderbilt tomorrow and would also love to hear someone else’s experience.
  15. Since I’m on the prospective student side of the equation, I sure hope that’s standard practice! Also, congratulations on your admits!
  16. How often does this work? Are admitted students successful at hitting universities with price match guarantees?
  17. I’m almost certain there will be more. The email detailing the process (such an email should be common practice) said that interviews will be requested in the first two weeks of February
  18. While I am hoping I’m certainly not counting on it being good news
  19. There certainly are some obscure universities releasing results...
  20. Just got a waitlist from Stony Brook. The email from DGS drove home that its a small one and that normally these waitlists would be admits under normal circumstances. I don’t know whether they’re just trying to be nice so I don’t take it as a rejection or they’re being totally honest.
  21. Anyone have any optimistic words for me after not receiving an interview request from Colorado Boulder? I thought I had great fit and thought I had a real shot at getting in.
