  1. Hi all! I wanted to plug the different recruitment and information events that HGSE does. I only was able to go to virtual ones, but they were INCREDIBLY helpful in my applications. They are doing in-person events this year too, and I bet they would be even more helpful if you could attend. They keep updating where they will be on part of HGSE's webpage: https://www.gse.harvard.edu/admissions/events

It has been such a high since getting the good news! I also wanted to try and help pay it forward to future folks that apply and post my information here. I saw the post from @TabTurbo that had a page with a lot of information from accepted applicants that @graciasadios and @mjsmith put together. Maybe they can add all of our information there if other people feel ok posting their information here:

    Concentration/Program: LDIT
    GRE: 158 Verbal, 156 Quant, 4.0 AW
Work experience: 3 years full-time work while doing my BS degree (teller at a bank)
    Undergrad: BS in Psychology
    Undergrad GPA: 3.5
Research: One small project in undergrad. Presented it at an undergrad research forum for school.
LORs: 2 from former professors, 1 from my boss
Other info: Can't think of anything really interesting or helpful for here

    Happy to help too!

    Concentration/Program: HDE
    GRE: Didn't take.
Work experience: 1 year full-time after graduating, and worked some part-time jobs while in college.
    Undergrad: BA in Communications.
    Undergrad GPA: 3.45
Research: Worked part-time for a professor for a year doing data entry for their research.
LORs: 2 from professors, 1 from a place I have been volunteering at for almost 5 years. Since I reapplied, I had 1 more letter this time around from my supervisor.
Other info: Like @Cole_Wilson, I just tried to connect my SOP with what my LOR writers new about me and the rest of my application.

Hey everyone! The session that was supposed to be yesterday got moved to next week. Same day and time, just a week later. I think you can still sign up for it if you want.

Really want to recommend hopping on one of these if you can. They really were helpful for me last time around! If you can't make this one, they have similar online information sessions up until applications are due.

Glad to have you back on journey with us as a veteran! Can you share more on the deferral petition? I'm also foreseeing potential visa/personal issue preventing me to enroll F22 but wonder if they'd grant deferral or allow part-time attendance. Have you seen any success?

Sure! You let the admissions office know you'd like to petition for a deferral. They have you basically write a letter discussing your situation and what has changed that makes it impossible for you to enroll now, but able to enroll the next year. Mine was a health issue with a family member. They said when I petitioned that deferrals are rarely accepted, but I don't know how rare they are exactly. Hope this helps, @TabTurbo!

I haven't tried officially, but I did e-mail them a few days after I got my package and asked if more aid was possible. They very politely told me that it usually takes an unexpected and drastic change in your life for them to grant you more aid (like your house burning down or you wind up in the hospital suddenly). Wish I had better news than this. ☹️

? Sad! I'll still try, because something did change in my life here. I'll let you know what news I get.

Well, master's programs tend to have pretty high acceptance rates. Not that this downplays any of your qualifications or accomplishments, but it's because they don't require too much commitment on the school's behalf to fund the candidates. Most people are willing to take out loans for a master's degree -- especially at a school like Harvard with high name value -- because they see it as an investment to advance in their careers.

The US News data (so take it with a grain of salt) says that the master's acceptance rate for HGSE is 53.6%. They have Penn GSE at 64.3%, and Stanford at around 29%, so it does tend to be much higher than the PhD acceptance rates at these schools.

? Thank you for finding this and sharing it with us all! The acceptance rate you shared is higher than I thought it was.
