  1. anyone have any insight on potential movements for UAlbany or University of Florida?
  2. I know Penn State has been historically bad with response times, but have they ever been this bad?
  3. I had a friend get rejected from Penn State on Friday, so I'm wondering if they're slowly moving through the applications in groups? Still strange. I'm in a similar boat - so much waiting. Nothing like deciding the next 5 years of your life on the evening of April 15th!
  4. Waitlisted at SUNY Albany this morning! Only 5 funded positions, and I'm at the top of the waitlist for one. I'm thrilled and also incredibly anxious about more waiting. This is my top choice program! (media AND poetics? a dream)
  5. Emailed Florida State for updates, got this back: Thank you for reaching out. Because of an extraordinary increase in the number of applicants (twice as many as last year), we have not yet finalized our offers and our waiting lists. We appreciate your patience, and we thank you for your interest in Florida State University. TWICE AS MANY???
  6. still waiting on penn state, university of rhode island, SUNY Albany, Florida State, and University of Florida. anyone else waiting for any of these, too? I applied for a mix of media studies phds and english, but I'm wondering how to approach next year's application cycle. I'm 22, finishing up my MFA at Miami OH, and have little experience in terms of conferences and publications that aren't creative/film based. how do y'all blend your interests into programs that are alllllmost the right fit, without having to reframe your experience? this is all to say, I am tired.
  7. when I said I wanted to hear ANYTHING from the 8 programs I applied to, I did not mean a rejection from my top choice. thx CMU.
  8. i didn't even apply to Duke and just got an email from Duke Energy, my electricity provider, and almost had a heart attack. this season sure is different huh
  9. anyone heard anything from Vanderbilt? I haven't heard anything from any schools I've applied to yet and this cycle of checking results, forum, and portals is a waking nightmare. Still holding on hope to CMU even though they also only admit 3 a year (looking at you, Yale) bc of recommendations from a past faculty member. In the meantime I will continue rewatching Pose and redownloading the Sims 4.
  10. Hey all! Did anyone else apply to CMU's Literary and Cultural studies program? They normally send out acceptances by now, but the application deadline was moved to Jan. 13th, so I'm guessing there's going to be a delay.
  11. congrats! the funding here is livable (avg. rent is 600 for a 1bd, 1.5k stipend a month) - the res program is very close knit, especially considering we all live in the oxford area. i would call it supportive, engaging, and innovative - we have workshop groups outside of the classroom, and everyone is very conscious of the work each of us are doing. i started in the program pre-pandemic, and it was very communal, but even now, we make time for Zoom meetings and try to keep the same kind of cohort, even digitally. positives: incredibly supportive, cool space if you like being in a rural environment, and very small cohorts. love the friends and colleagues i've made here. i have a faculty member who is really aligned with my interests, so i feel well equipped for my thesis. negatives: very small, not diverse town. faculty is very much aligned with their own work, so not a lot of room to deviate from their interests. (lots of experimental & abstract poetics) - one semester teaching 2 courses, which was stressful. very scarce course list, mostly tailored towards rhet/comp students. overall, i am very happy with my time here considering the circumstances. I was accepted to 7 out of 8 MFA programs I applied to, and I ended up going here. it was mostly for cohort and faculty as opposed to the structure of the program. i also grew up in ohio, so the environment was something i am used to. i felt well-equipped for teaching, albeit the stress of balancing your own work with the courses you're instructing. this is a lot to say i am happy with my experience, i only wish the circumstances were different!
  12. found this thread when looking through stuff for PhD apps - I'm currently an MFA student at Miami U in Ohio - here for questions! from what I know from faculty, the majority of acceptances have gone out, but waitlists grow until mid-March, so don't lose hope if you haven't heard back!
