Yeah, I think everyone finds it a bit strange that waitlists are first. However, last year McGill contacted a bunch of people on the 11th (acceptance calls) then went radio-silent and didn't contact anyone again until the 16th (acceptance emails, rejections, and waitlists), so there is the possibility we might not hear from them about acceptances/rejections until next week still.

Hey! Thanks for providing that info. I hope this year can be the year for you. In regards to McGill, as far as I can tell they haven't sent out any rejections or acceptances yet, so hang in there! However I also want to point out that you say your subGPA is 3.5, but just a heads up that McGill uses cumulative GPA, so depending on what that is for you that could be a factor to consider as well. They mention on their site that the average GPA of admitted students is around 3.8, and while you are below that I've definitely heard of people getting in with below a 3.8 who had plenty of experience. It sounds like you have a bunch of that, as well as a relevant grad certificate. I've also heard they value research a bit, so if you happen to have done an Honours thesis/project for your degree or have any other experience with it from your courses or volunteer hours, then you'd definitely be a good candidate to consider, I think! So I'd say keep your hopes up until you hear back for sure

I believe last month someone said Vicki told them they got around 200 this year. I think they typically get around 150-200, but don't quote me on it! I don't know for sure, just going off of previous posts.

No, they're different. The main difference is McGill looks at cumulative GPA, not sub-GPA like all the other schools. Secondly, Dal uses a 4.3 scale, and while ORPAS uses a 4.0 scale like McGill, they are different. The main difference is that for McGill, an A/A+ distinction doesn't exist, so anything 85% or higher is considered 4.0, whereas ORPAS has 3.9 for an A and 4.0 for A+ for the most part (although not every school's conversion lines up perfectly with this). Dal's can be found here -> https://www.dal.ca/campus_life/academic-support/grades-and-student-records/grade-scale-and-definitions.html McGills can be found here -> https://www.mcgill.ca/continuingstudies/grades-and-gpa ORPAS can be found here -> https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-conversion-table/ Hope this helps!

I also find this a bit strange! Perhaps they're in the process of calling people as well, and that takes longer? I'm not sure. In the past they've typically done either acceptances first, or done acceptances and right after/almost simultaneously did waitlists and rejections. I've heard of schools sending out all 3 at the same time so all responses go out at once, but I've never heard of waitlists going first. I haven't heard back yet, so I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad one ? either way, it means they've made their decisions so I imagine we'll find out soon enough

I haven't heard anything either! And usually they send them within a couple days or a week (last year they contact people on the 11th and 16th) but in the past they've also typically sent the acceptances first, followed by waitlists and rejections, so I'm not 100% certain. But either way, we should probably know within a week for certain would be my guess!

Oh wow, thanks for the update! This makes it all feel real right now! Also congrats on making it onto the waitlist, I know a direct acceptance is ideal but you still have a good chance if you're on the waitlist! I'm not sure about if they disclose waitlist positions though, sorry. I haven't heard from them and I just checked uApply and it still says "In Review".

Hey everyone, McGill updated their website that they will be hosting their annual prospective students day on March 27th. Typically by that time they've usually sent out all of the acceptances, rejections, and waitlists around a week prior. I know we're all pretty confident they'll be sending them out this week or next so this isn't super surprising news, but nonetheless I thought I'd draw attention to this for those who might be interested I had checked this yesterday and it said date TBA, but now they've put one up. https://www.mcgill.ca/scsd/channels/news/virtual-prospective-students-event-2021-27-march-1300-1400-329416

Thanks for the info! I must've missed that bit so I'm glad you pointed it out. It does make me wonder if they might wait bit and send them out a few weeks later than they typically have this year. Additionally, with them making decisions from a distance and with a new selection process/criteria I wouldn't be surprised if it is a slower process than in the past. Either way, thank you for pointing this out! We'll have to wait and see now I suppose.

Hey! For the schools outside of Ontario, does anyone know how long they typically give you to accept an offer if you receive one? I know for ORPAS it's first round of offers go out April 1st, and the deadline to accept is April 16th (or April 30th for provisional acceptances) but I was curious about the other schools. @JennSed would you happen to remember how long you had to make a decision on whether or not to accept the offer you were given from UA? Thanks for providing so much insight to this forum this year as well, we all really appreciate it!

In regards to McGill, I just want to add that they usually take a bit to send all of them out, and they don't always call! I looked at the 2020 forum, and they called a bunch of people on the 11th, then didn't contact anyone else for several days until March 16th when they sent out some additional acceptance emails (to people they never called the week before) as well as they sent out waitlists and rejections on the 16th as well. So, if you don't receive a call, you might still have a chance and they might send out more later, sort of in waves.

I guess this is a result of the website maintenance they did last week! Mine looks the same, but someone else (I can't remember who) mentioned theirs had changes as well!

We obviously can't discuss it, but I just wanted to say good luck to everyone who is doing the McMaster MMIs today, tomorrow, and Monday! I wish you the best of luck with the process For those of you who aren't I also wish you the best of luck with all of your other applications as well, I know this is an antsy and stressful time but keep your chins up and have faith, we'll find out about applications soon enough, and hopefully some of us will be meeting one another in the fall, wherever we all end up

Thanks for sharing that info! I wonder how many are in each quadrant. And I can't wait either, this is an exciting and nerve-wracking time! I applied to UAlberta, Western, McMaster, McGill, and Dal. I've put it in my signature (as have some other applicants) so that we can use a colour code system to see who gets accepted, rejected, waitlisted, etc. when they start coming out, if you'd wanna join some of us and do that too! You just have to go to the top right corner of the page where your username is, click on it and go to "Account Settings" and then on the left side will be some options, so if you click "Signature" you can edit it there Where did you apply?

From my understanding, they only look at sub-GPA! Congrats on making it onto the waitlist at Western last year, I'm sorry that you didn't make it off of it but hopefully this year can be your year! If you don't mind me asking, did Western give you any idea on where on the waitlist you were (a position, quadrant, etc.)? And best of luck to you, maybe we'll cross paths one day

Hmm interesting... the words "Invalid Login" make me think that it might've been a wrong username or password entered, but if you've used it before then it doesn't make sense. Mine is still working. Maybe contact the faculty as it suggests?

Mine is letting me right now! But I think I saw a thing the other day saying the site was going to be down for a few days for maintenance, I can't remember the exact dates but it should be up soon again, if not already.

If I get in, I think I'd be living off-campus as it seems much more affordable than residence by looking at their website and comparing it to the rental prices. What about you? Oh haha, my school is the same way. Always on Mondays it seems for me, because we get a covid-update, an email from the president, an email from the faculty, the department, etc... Non-stop dinging! One of these days soon it could be something else though How did you like your time at UA? Like the campus, services, faculty, etc. if you don't mind me asking?

This! It seems like they're super consistent with releasing them the second or third week of March, and also I just wanted to add that they've often called people first (before sending an email) which can take a while since they need to get through everyone, so it seems like in the past it's sometimes taken them a day or two to get all of the acceptances out so if you see people post on here they've got accepted, don't be too discouraged right away as they might have just not got to you, if you happen to be accepted. The grad apply portal seems to update after they've contacted the accepted people.

This is my first time applying, but based on past forums it seems like only a week or two! Very exciting. However, in the past some people's applications have never actually switched to "Under Review", as in some people said theirs still said "pre-screening" even after they'd received acceptance or rejection emails, so it's not a perfect system to judge by, haha. Additionally, I've been wondering if it might take longer to make decisions this year since due to the change in how they're making their decisions. So, it's hard to tell for sure, but if anyone has asked the department or has a better answer please feel free to share what you know!

Thanks for giving your insight to us this year! I know they're also basing admissions off of different criteria this year (less focus on GPA, among other things) so it could definitely be much different this year than even last year, but nonetheless thanks for providing what you do know!
