  1. Hey everyone! I'm a first year SLP student at UofA. I found this forum super useful last year, so I thought I'd try and reach out to you all this year to see if I can help. We're in the middle of midterm season rn so I am a quite busy, but please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the school, application process for any of the schools I applied to (see below), McMaster's MMI, etc. and I'll try and answer as soon as I can
  2. I'd like to add on that I know some people in the group were still debating between schools when they joined a few weeks ago, and so some of them may have ended up declining UofA but not left the group yet (I know of at least one like this, so there could be more). So, there definitely still might be more spots opening up. Past forums show several people usually getting accepted places in May, and some even all the way until August (although that's much more unlikely) but there's definitely still several weeks left where it's likely more offers will be sent out.
  3. Not me (as I had already been accepted) but there's been a couple people join the Facebook page we have over the last week who say they got accepted off the waitlist, so there has been some movement! I also know for UofA there's no deposit, so some people might be holding onto an acceptance there and then might end up declining if they choose to go elsewhere. I hope you hear back soon and get in!
  4. Congrats to both of you! I'm excited to meet you both If you haven't already, please feel free to join our Facebook page here --> https://www.facebook.com/groups/4145976932101730
  5. Hi everyone! There should be some movement for Western, McMaster, and McGill as I've declined those offers, as well as I've asked to have myself removed from Dalhousie's waitlist. I'll be attending UAlberta in the fall. Congrats to those accepted, and best of luck to those of you waiting to hear back!
  6. Hi everyone! I've declined my offers at Western, McMaster, and McGill, as well as I have emailed Dal to please remove me from the waitlist as I have accepted my offer from Alberta. Congrats to those of you accepted, and best of luck to those of you still waiting to hear back!
  7. Just went back through some emails/portals/letters to try and organize all of the dates/times/deadlines...lol. Here's what I've got: McMaster -offer expires 11:59pm EST on April 15th plus $500 deposit by July 15th (as seen in email containing offer of admission letter) Western - offer expires 11:59pm EST on April 16th plus $500 deposit due by June 1st (as seen in offer of admission letter) McGill -accept by April 15th with $500 deposit due by April 15 as well (as seen in offer of acceptance) Alberta - offer expires April 15th, but I can't find a time or deposit info (as seen on GSMS portal) Unfortunately I can't speak to UBC, Toronto, Dal, or the French schools, but if anyone else knows and wants to jump in here it might be useful! I'm also not 100% sure what they mean by "due by.." like McGill says, either, whether it means before tomorrow or sometime during tomorrow. I'm planning on accepting my offer sometime today, just to be safe. Also is anyone able to confirm that there's no deposit for UAlberta? I'm worried I'm missing something.
  8. Hey! In the email they sent me with the PDF of the letter attached, it says "Your deadline to respond is Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11:59 pm EST". It doesn't say this time in the letter itself, but it's in the message part of the email they sent with it. I hope this helps! Also congrats on receiving multiple offers which schools are you debating between? Edit: Just adding that the above info is in relation to McMaster, I'd have to look into the other schools to be sure about them.
  9. So I noticed on the ORPAS website, on one page it says provisional acceptances for SLP/AUD become firm on April 30th (https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-dates/) but on a different page for FAQ it says they become firm on April 20th (https://www.ouac.on.ca/faq/when-do-provisionals-become-firm/) I'm pretty certain it should be the 30th (it makes the most sense and this is in line with what they've done in the past) but I just wanted to point it out in case anyone is confused or is in that situation and might want to just triple check with ORPAS!
  10. Hi! The FAQ near the bottom of this page might help you. https://www.ouac.on.ca/faq-application/orpas/page/3/#:~:text=A provisional acceptance means that,to choose between the 2. Basically, it's sort of like you get an extended time to make a decision as you'll be able to stay on waitlists for other schools until you hear back, at which point you'll have to make an official decision. It says you can't hold two acceptances (provisional or firm) at the same time, so I'd assume this would really only work if you've been accepted to one and are on the waitlist for another (or more). If you've been accepted to two schools right now, you can't provisionally accept both of them now, you'll have to choose one.
  11. Not sure! But their email says they won't answer any emails about waitlist position/probability inquiries, and also that there is no particular order for their waitlist, which is interesting.
  12. Me too, I still haven't heard anything. But since they contacted more people today, I'd imagine we should definitely be hearing soon, especially with the acceptance deadline next week for the other schools.
  13. Hi, I've now created a Facebook group for UA! You can find it at this link -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/4145976932101730 Or by going to Facebook and searching "University of Alberta SLP Class of 2023". Looking forward to seeing some of you on there!
  14. Not yet! They said it might take a couple weeks, so I'd expect to see it sometime this week or early next at the latest. Mine is conditional and the offer of admission letter stated that successful completion of my Winter term prerequisites is required, and that I'll have to send my updated transcripts later on once I finish my degree.
  15. Hi! I haven't accepted the offer yet, but I'm like 90% sure I'll be attending UofA. I'd be willing to make the Facebook group if that's okay with you all? If something happens and I don't end up accepting my UofA offer, I'll be sure to pass the admin privileges (if there are any) off to someone else. Does this sound okay for those of you interested in a Facebook group for UofA?
  16. Hi! Feel free to PM me about this stuff if you'd like, and I can answer how I highlighted my experiences with EDI. The 3.3 minimum GPA requirement is a sub-GPA, if you look on their site I think it refers to it as the most recent 60 credits (or whatever credit system they use). They also didn't count Winter 2020 grades towards GPA calculations this year, so I'm not sure if they'll do that next year as well but just thought I'd mention it! They've also removed the GRE requirement (and so has Dal) for the next cycle as well. Like I said, feel free to PM me if you have questions so we don't flood the forum!
  17. Unfortunately, I don't believe so. From what I gather, they usually make the waitlist much bigger than they'd ever admit, even if all the spots opened up, and so usually quite a few people won't make it in off a waitlist. That being said, your signature shows you're waitlisted at 3 schools, so I think the odds might be in your favour! Best of luck
  18. Congrats everyone who has been admitted! To those of you who have been waitlisted, keep your chins up! Looking at the responses and people's signatures here, it looks like many people who've been admitted to a school have been admitted to many, so I anticipate a lot of people will be declining some of their offers so there's likely to be a lot of waitlist movement a few weeks from now when it's closer to the initial deadline! To those of you not admitted or waiting to hear back, please try not to be too hard on yourself. This is an incredibly difficult process and you've worked super hard to even get here, so please allow yourself the time to be proud of all you've accomplished. If you apply again next year, I wish you the best of luck, and if I can remember I'll try to stick around on the forums to offer any insight about this process/wherever I end up If you'd like to know stats or anything from me, or to perhaps have someone to talk to about this or anything else in the world my inbox is open.
  19. Hey everyone! For me my Western portal is showing a response from them but my ORPAS hasn't updated, so if you're looking to hear back from Western you might want to check the Western portal, not ORPAS (for now anyway). Thought this might help some of you if you're only looking at ORPAS like I was!
  20. Hey! As it comes closer to the time when the majority of people will be knowing results, thought I'd mention that if anyone wants to add their signature (like mine below) and results to the results page then it can be super useful for both people in this thread and people next year as well! It can help give a rough estimate for people this year on how many people might be declining offers (contributing to waitlist movement) as well as seeing what sorts of stats people had who did/didn't get in can be useful for future applicants, so feel free to use these functions! If you'd like to add a signature, go to the top right and hit the triangle by your username, then "Account Settings" on the right, then "Signature" on the left, and you can input it there. If you wish to add your results, go to the top left and hit "Results" and then "Submit Your Results" from the top of your page. Best of luck to everyone!
  21. Hey! I think you might be looking for this page -> https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-program-requirements/ It hasn't updated yet to show how many applied this year (and I have no clue when it will) but it does show how many spots there are. Hope this helps! Also, does this sort of feel a bit like New Years Eve for anyone else, lol? Just kind of waiting up for midnight, to see if anything exciting happens, or it could be anticlimactic.. haha.
