  1. Hey everyone! I received an MMI interview invitation for McMaster via email this morning so they've started sending them out now!
  2. Hey! I don't want to be discouraging, but the email ORPAS sent when they first got posted said "You are responsible for reporting any changes required to your academic record by February 19, 2021", so I just wanted to give you a heads up in case it might be too late. Nonetheless, it's definitely worth contacting SAM in case they can still change it! For me when they needed to update my new grades it was done within 24 hours of them receiving my updated transcript. So, if they are still able to make corrections, then they should be able to do it quite quickly! Good luck
  3. Their website says they'll be sending them out between February 22nd and March 2nd. So, starting tomorrow! Source (click on 'Important Dates') -> https://healthsci.mcmaster.ca/srs-slp/education/future-students/admission
  4. Hi! It's lovely to "meet" you. I've received something from McMaster (several weeks ago) that let me create a student account. As neuroling says, make sure you check your spam! On their website they say to ensure that sgswbsv@mcmaster.ca is in your safe sender list, because it's an odd email name and might go to spam or junk or something like that. I'd check those folders and make sure that you save this email address as a safe sender. However, if you don't find anything from them in those emails I would contact them! MMI offers start going out soon (Feb 22nd - March 2nd IIRC) so you'd want to make sure there aren't any issues soon. If you've received something from Western then I'd assume most things should be okay for McMaster as well since it's all via ORPAS, but nonetheless you might want to check with the school themselves!
  5. Good question! I was planning on it, but unfortunately couldn't. I had a B and an A+ for my two 0.5 credit Human Physiology prerequisites, but they told me they wouldn't count this because they are strict on their rule of all prerequisites must be a B+ or higher, so unfortunately I basically couldn't apply because my grade was just below the minimum requirement.
  6. Definitely! I had 6 courses last semester and only 5 this semester, but nonetheless I've definitely been experiencing some burnout lately. I'm also doing an Honours thesis, which is very self-directed and at times I find it hard to be disciplined. I have a feeling though once we do start hearing things, the time will go by so quickly! Especially if you're offered admission because you only have a few weeks to make a decision on an offer. Already it's February 19th, which means that in just 3 days MMI interview offers from McMaster could start being sent out! And then by this time next month it's likely that McGill will have sent some offers out (since they typically do it around mid-March) and maybe UAlberta as well (they've done it March 9th and end of March the last 2 years). But anywho, you're definitely not alone in your struggles or anxiety waiting for results! I'm happy to have this forum to meet and discuss this process with others in the same situation. If anyone ever wants to send me a DM, I'd love to get to know some of you!
  7. Were you assigned a number or letter grade for the exchange, or is the grade given to you using a pass/fail system? The reason I ask is my school uses pass/fail grades when people go on exchange, and this bit on OUAC says that they don't count pass/fail grades. (https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-gpa-calculations/) Additionally, ORPAS needs transcripts from all schools, so as long as the school you did your exchange on also sent a transcript then I believe they'd just use those grades the same way they would other grades, in terms of 20 half-credits/60 credit hours in terms of recency. (This link here answers a question about needing transcripts from all schools, even if exchange grades show up on your home university's transcript -> https://www.ouac.on.ca/faq/transcript-from-exchange-institution/) Does this help?
  8. Hey everyone! I know this thread is from last year, but in the off-chance any of you still check this forum I thought I'd make a post. For those of you who were accepted and are currently in your first year of your programs, would you mind sharing how your experience is going? This is my first time applying (for Fall 2021) and as my applications are done I'm just in the waiting process before we'll start hearing back from schools so I thought I'd gather info about programs from people in them. I've chatted with one individual at McGill who said they're having a poor experience (in particular as an anglophone) so I would be eager to hear some more honest feedback from others at different schools as well. In the off chance that I'm fortunate enough to be accepted to multiple schools and have options, then I think it's important for me to consider as much information as possible, so if any of you would want to provide some pros, cons, etc. about your experiences both in terms of courses/workload, the cities you live in, your school overall, how they're dealing with COVID, placements, etc. then I'd be receptive to any of it! In particular the schools I applied to were UAlberta, McGill, Western, McMaster, and Dalhousie, and I don't really have a definitive ranking of my top choice(s) or anything so I'd be open to hearing perspectives from students at any of these schools. If you do have anything to share please feel free to reply here or shoot me a DM if you'd prefer to keep it more private. Thanks so much!
  9. Hi! Not the exact situation you're describing as I didn't have a mistake in the calculations per se, but they needed to recalculate mine because I had an updated transcript come in so new grades were available. My GPA had been recalculated and updated within 24 hours of my school sending them the new transcript, so it was a surprisingly quick turnaround! I imagine it should also be fairly quick for recalculating/fixing mistakes as well, but I can't say that with 100% certainty as there weren't mistakes that needed fixing with mine.
  10. Hey! My school also uses the 12.0 scale. For those of you wondering about the differences in scales, if you haven't seen this already then you might want to check out this conversion table. It converts every university's scale into the ORPAS one by assigning it to a scale type and showing you how they convert it. Unfortunately, some scales don't line up perfectly, but this is how ORPAS does it. However if the issue is that there are courses missing though then that's an issue to discuss with SAM to make sure it's corrected, but in terms of how they go from a 12 point/4.3 point/4.5 point/etc. down to the 4.0 then this is it. Find your school and you can see how they did it Here's the link -> https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-conversion-table/ In regards to your last line, I believe they just use the ORPAS one as their websites say applications are coordinated/ completed via ORPAS. However, if you want to be absolutely sure then you could contact the departments themselves, but from my knowledge they use ORPAS. Hope this helps!
  11. I also got this email (received at 7:53a.m. Ontario time). My application portal also hasn't been updated to show this either, and I didn't receive information about a student number or anything either. While alphabetical would normally make sense, I don't think this is how they're doing it. I just received my email this morning and my last name starts with C, so considering others with last names further down the alphabet received theirs earlier than me I have a feeling they might use some other system (maybe when the application was first created, paid, completed, GRE results received, etc. who knows haha). Not trying to be discouraging, but moreso letting those of you who might get worried if you see people with last names further down from you that have heard from Dalhousie if you haven't. I don't want any of you to worry anymore than you have to/probably already are! They say it can take 5 weeks and the deadline was January 15th, so I probably wouldn't get too worried unless you haven't heard from them by next week or so, at which point sending an email to check in might be worth it. I also imagine with COVID it's a different checking process that they've typically been used to, so I think it's completely possible there might be some delays.
  12. Wow, interesting, thank you for your honesty! I know COVID has definitely impacted some people's perceptions obviously, but even without COVID some of your concerns around being an anglophone, less funding opportunities, and difficulty with placements is still completely valid. I think for me I love Montreal as a city and McGill overall as a school, but from the way you've put it it could be worth questioning how those factors make me feel about the program itself. Thank you for your honesty, I'll be sure to keep it in mind if given the chance to choose between schools! I know this field is super competitive so I'd honestly be ecstatic to get accepted anywhere, but nonetheless, thank you for your input. Feel free to message me if there's any other thoughts you think might be worth sharing with someone currently going through the admissions cycle.
  13. Wonderful stats everyone, good luck! My personal rankings keep changing all the time! I think my front two are McGill and UAlberta, followed by McMaster, Western, and Dalhousie in that order. McGill used to be a solid #1 for me, but the more I think about it, the more I worry about the difficulty in finding placements as someone who only has basic French and may have to travel out of province for some of the placements. What about everyone else? I'd love to hear your choices and reasons for them!
  14. Hey! McGill uses a bit of a different scale than ORPAS and many other schools. At McGill, anything that's an A or A+ (85-100%) is given a 4.0, and is only called an A (A+'s don't exist there I guess). Some other schools (and ORPAS) use a system where an A is 3.9, and an A+ is 4.0, so although the 0.1 difference isn't super large, it can produce some different numbers! UAlberta also uses a similar scale to McGill, except they're not using any grades from Winter 2020 towards the calculation of GPA. Here's a link to McGill's grading scale -> https://www.mcgill.ca/dise/resources/instructor-resources/undergrading Here's a link to ORPAS scale, for instance -> https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-conversion-table/ So from those, you can see that they differ a bit. Additionally, Dal uses a 4.3 scale, and the school I did my undergrad at actually used a 12.0 scale so I had to spend a lot of time trying to figure out all these conversions/calculations haha. Let me know if you have any other questions!
  15. Hey! I'm not sure 100% which stats you're looking for, but I've pasted some things below for me, so if others wanna copy and paste and use a similar template please feel free to or else do it your own way, that's cool too! Degree: Undergrad in Linguistics (Concentration in Psycholinguistics and Communication Disorders, minor in Spanish) GPA: ORPAS subGPA was 3.88, other schools use different scales so 4.05 for Dal, 3.85 for McGill, and 3.84 for UAlberta GRE: VR - 156 (72nd percentile), QR - 153 (48th percentile), AW – 5.5 (98th percentile) Experience/Volunteering: Unfortunately, not much SLP related due to Covid but I have experience being a teaching assistant for university courses, research experience by doing an Honours thesis, and volunteer experience writing letters to people in LTC homes, running a campus club for 3+ years, being a leader at a summer camp, and being a member of a club that connects students with disabilities to students from other backgrounds. References: From professors who have taught me, as well as from those who I’ve worked for as a TA I'd love to hear everyone else's as well! I'm also getting antsy
  16. I still haven't! Nothing changed on my portal and no email yet. They said it could take up to 5 weeks from the deadline, so there's still a bit of time before that, and I'm not sure if they'll be working over reading week or not. Also I'm sure they're probably busy with how they have people submit things both via mail and online, so I think we still have a bit of time before we should be a bit concerned. I'll put an update on here when I do hear back!
  17. Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate it. I too also place Dalhousie lower on my list because of it being 3 years and more expensive, as well as McMaster's still being new and being PBL definitely makes me a bit hesitant about it as well. I think McGill and UA are my frontrunners right now. For the longest time McGill was my frontrunner, but I'm not the greatest with French and worry about the difficulty with clinical placements without it. Lately UA has been making its way up my ranks, so it's nice to hear from someone who attends there. Thank you for sharing!
  18. No worries! I was relieved too. I was scared that if I got my school to send an updated transcript, then it would be seen as "late" (since it was past the January 30 deadline) but SAM told me that as long as ORPAS had received the payment and request by January 8th and a transcript by the 30th that I would be okay.
  19. Hey! I was in the same boat the other week. You do it through ORPAS. What I had to do was go to ORPAS -> Transcripts -> Add Transcript Request and then once that was filled out, you have to go to Review and Submit and then re-submit your application (and pay any fees if there is another transcript request fee, if your school has them). At this point there might be the brief waiting period where you can't login to ORAPS (they say wait one business day) but for me it was available again later that night, and my GPA had been re-calculated almost as soon as they received my transcript the next day. I had contacted ORPAS via SAM before I did this, and have now done this myself (like a week ago) so I can 100% confirm this is the right way to do it! If you need any clarification let me know! P.S. The only issue is if you're doing this for updated grades for a prereq course listed under the Personal Submissions, sadly you can't update your personal submissions, only upload a new transcript and have your GPA recalculated. SAM told me that the schools would have to look at my transcripts themselves to see the updated prereq grade.
  20. Wow, those are amazing stats, thank you for sharing! If you don't mind me asking, is there a particular reason you chose UA over the other schools? This is my first year applying and I've applied to several of those schools as well, and everyone keeps asking me which one is my top choice and honestly I'm not 100% which would one would be! I go back and forth over it all the time. I know this field is super competitive and I'd be happy to be accepted anywhere, but I'm a little curious about how schools rank in other people's books. I suppose I could extend this question to everyone here, if anyone else would like to answer what their top choice(s) are and why!
  21. Hey! Would anyone who's applying this year want to change their signatures to the way that JennSed has, where you put the schools you apply to, and then colour-code the school's responses with red, yellow, or green (rejected, waitlisted, accepted)? I know several threads in previous years have done it and I thought it would be cool to implement it again this year, so people can get a rough idea for who's been accepted with what kind of stats, and give an idea about waitlists, etc. I know acceptances won't begin rolling out for a month or so, but I think it'd be cool to have for when they do start rolling out. I just don't want too be the only one! Would others wanna do this?
  22. Hi! I scrolled through the 2020 and 2019 threads on this site, and it looks like they began sending acceptances out in 2020 on March 9th, and in 2019 on March 28th! I also believe sometimes it takes them a couple days (or sometimes more) to finish making all the calls/sending all the emails though, as well as letting those on the waitlist know they've been placed on it, so it's possible to be accepted even if you're not told right away.
  23. Thank you for the update! This is reassuring because it means they definitely still are slowly working through them, and those of us who haven't been contacted yet shouldn't stress too much. Just wondering, has the document list on you online application changed to show they've received everything? Thanks!
  24. Thank you to those of you updating everyone on the status of your Dal applications! I personally haven't received an email saying all parts have been received or an email with a student number, and the requirements chart still doesn't have any updates. But I know they said it can take up to 5 weeks, and since the deadline was January 15th that means it's only been 3.5 weeks so I'll be patient. If you don't mind, I'd love it if people could give updates as those things change. I'll be sure to myself once I receive an email. Thanks
