  1. No worries! Always glad to help. And haha, I'm hanging in here, anxious to start hearing back but I know I'll have to be patient the next couple of months. I hope you're hanging in there as well!
  2. Yeah, I understand the frustration with averaging a year and not a semester. I'm guessing they do it though because it's a larger sample size. Say you take 5 classes in each semester, and mess one up, then the average of 10 classes (with one bad one) is a much better representation than the average of 5 classes (with one bad one). Although this system doesn't help people who raised their grades in later years, it does help those with consistent good grades with one or two anomalies. I think they might also do it because sometimes they need to add/average more credits than one semester can allow, so I wonder if they might just take the yearly average as default because then it's the same, regardless of how many more credits need to be added to reach the 20 half-courses/60 credits. Nonetheless, I'm sorry for all of us who have averages being brought down by this system! I can understand why someone would be upset. I know some schools also look directly at transcripts as well, so hopefully if they look at yours they'll be able to see the trend of improving grades. Best of luck to you all!
  3. No worries! I'm happy to help. I completely understand, I did better in 3rd and 4th year than 2nd year as well, but they'll be using my second year average for a few credits of mine in the GPA calculation. I'm guessing they think using the average from a longer period of time (e.g. a year) is better than one semester because one individual grade won't have as much power, but I completely understand your frustrations! I hope it hasn't affected your GPA too much. Best of luck!
  4. Hey! ORPAS uses a conversion table to adjust the different scales. I'm in the same boat, my school uses a 12-point system, so this is how they adjust/convert them to their 4.0 scale. Here's a link to the conversion table in case you haven't seen it to show how they convert it --> https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-conversion-table/ In terms of how they calculate the 60 credit hours, they start by taking all of the most recent ones. However, sometimes if your degree is in progress (or something similar) and they need to dip into earlier years, instead of taking a random selection of courses from the next oldest semester, they average the entire year. For example, for many people who are applying that are in 4th year right now, they might take Fall 2020 grades, Winter 2020 grades, Fall 2019 grades, and then have to pick a few more credits from Winter 2019 grades. However, instead of picking randomly from the Winter 2019 semester, they take the average of that school year (2nd year, a.k.a. Fall 2018+Winter 2019). It can be a bit confusing with how they number the years (e.g. Fall 2020 is marked as 2021 in the table on my ORPAS right now, so your Fall 2019 courses might actually be listed as 2020 in the table, so look for course codes not years maybe), but basically if they have to select a few courses from one semester to add up to the 60 credits, they average that entire year instead, and count that average for however many credits they need to make up. (E.g. if you've taken 51 credits in 3rd and 4th year, then to make up the final 9 credits, they'll average your second year marks, and count it for the final 9 credit hours. I'm worried I'm not explaining it well enough, so hopefully this link helps! --> https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-gpa-calculations/ However if you check these and still think there's an issue in the calculation, then be sure to message ORPAS by February 19th. Best of luck!
  5. Hey! I just got an email today from ORPAS saying I can now see my GPA calculations in ORPAS. Mine were posted yesterday but I just got the email today, so maybe by now they've posted everyone's? It might be worth checking! It also says we have until February 19th to report any required changes to our academic records.
  6. Hey! My understanding was that every school just takes it straight from ORPAS. However, if McMaster does include those practicum courses, then maybe they would calculate the GPA on their own when they look at your transcript? I know schools outside of Ontario calculate it on their own, so it's completely possible that McMaster might as well. I think it would be worth reaching out to them to see for sure though. The UofT website for SLP says " The University of Toronto uses the ORPAS sub-grade point average (GPA) to determine eligibility for the MHSc program and the sub-GPA is part of the overall assessment process" so I would assume they'll be using the ORPAS one that doesn't include practicum courses. (I can send you the link that says this is need be). I didn't apply for OT so I can't speak about Queens though, sorry! I'd suggest double-checking their website, and if nothing is there, then emailing them might be best. Hope this helps
  7. Best of luck! I applied to several of those schools as well. I think a 3.72 is pretty good, I've seen posts in the past of people being accepted with below that, and if you have things like some experience, good letters of intent, and good references, then I'm sure you'd be a worthy candidate! And thank you, it definitely is nerve-wracking! In March and April I'm definitely going to be refreshing my browsers way too often haha
  8. Hmm interesting, I'm sorry. Maybe it will take a bit to get around to displaying everyone's? I think that as long as they received your transcript(s) by the deadline everything should be fine. Maybe wait a day and if it doesn't show up then reach out via SAM?
  9. On ORPAS, go to "Document Tracking" and scroll to the bottom. There should be a big chart to show how they calculated it, and the number in the bottom right corner should be the sub GPA!
  10. Hey! Would you mind sharing where you've applied? Some schools weigh GPA a lot more than others, like McGill's average admittance is usually around 3.8 (on the 4.0 scale) or higher, but other schools like Western typically use it as more of an admissions requirement and say a GPA between 3.3-3.5 is competitive, or so I've heard. In the past I think it depended a lot on experience, so someone with a lower GPA but lots of great experience, reference letters, etc. might get in over someone who only has a strong GPA. But with Covid things might be different, since some places have eliminated the experience requirement, so I can't say for sure how things will play out. I'd recommend looking at the schools websites again, because some might be clearer about what they're looking for in regards to GPA! However, I think a 3.72 is pretty good! Best of luck
  11. If I'm not mistaken, the "Overall GPA" is your CGPA (Cumulative average), and the one on the bottom right is your sub-GPA (for the most recent courses).
  12. I believe it's the one that's at the bottom right of the chart.
  13. Woo! Just a reminder for everyone to double check that their calculations seem correct, I've heard some people in the past say there's been mistakes/miscalculations so I'd recommend double-checking
  14. Okay, thank you for the update! I definitely think that might be it, that they have so many different components that were sent in different ways (e.g. some online, some by email, mail, GRE was sent directly, etc.) so I imagine it's a long process, and they're probably working their way through it. I'll keep you updated if I hear back from them!
  15. Hmm interesting, did you just get the email this week? And on your account, does it say if any of your documents have been received yet? I haven't received an email from Dal yet like this, but I imagine they might be slowly working through acknowledging all of the applications they got. I've received a similar email though from Western, McMaster, and UAlberta. Still waiting on one from Dal and McGill.
  16. Hey! I received an email from them back in December (when I paid the application fee) that said thank you for the application, and to make sure I sent them all of my documents by the deadline, but beyond that I haven't heard anything from them yet. Also, on my Dal Online application, it hasn't said if they've received any of my documents (other than the payment fee). What about everyone else? Have you received an email like the one that 2021speechie has, or does your Dal Online have any updates? I'll be sure to post an update if I do hear anything from them, or if any part of my application changes. Cheers!
  17. I'm not sure, for mine it says "Number of Documents Received" and then a number underneath that stating "1" (i.e. they received one transcript from my university). Did it just change to this, or has it said this all along? As the other user suggested, I'd say to use SAM! They should also be releasing the GPA calculations soon too, so maybe it has something to do with that? This is my first time applying, but based on posts from previous years it shows up under "Document Tracking" at the bottom of the page.
  18. Me too! I just found this forum this week (had previously mainly just been using Reddit) but I'm happy I did, there's a lot more info on here! I wish I found it earlier though, some of this information may have been useful during the application process, but nonetheless I'm glad to have found it. I imagine it'll be especially useful for when schools start sending out acceptances, to see when people start hearing from them.
