  1. Sorry for the cheesy post with lack of educational context on the admission process, but I have to share my happy news! Friday, within the same hour I got an email from both of my top two schools announcing I was accepted. It may not be a big deal for some, but I suffered with major anxiety my first two years of undergrad and thought I would never get in due to my grades. I worked so hard to get internships, pracitcum, and volunteer experience that showed my dedication and made up for my low grades. It is possible guys! Showing you care and want to be a part of the program is the most important part. For all the people thinking they have no chance due to grades, you do! I am proof. I am excited about this next chapter in my life! If anyone happens to struggle with a low GPA and is planning on applying to grad schools and would like some tips please let me know! Cheers!
  2. Hi Guys! I hope everyone is doing well. I am freaking out. After submitting my personal statement I found out the first page was sent sideways. Is this ring to end my application in the trash? I cannot resubmit it. The application is for social work to add context. The paper is free of any other errors and displays good substance and writing skills. It was a silly error. Anyone else have a similar issue?
  3. Hi All! How long was your resume for your gradate school application? Mine is 1 and 1/2 pages due to lots of experiences. Is that too long?
  4. yes, just a little bit of quizlet and Kaplan prep plus!
  5. Yup I am in close contact with all the schools I am applying to and even told them my scores, they said they were fine, but I am just freaking out. It's really important in my life to get into grad school ASAP, but I think I'm well rounded and the programs seem to like me!
  6. Is it going to hurt me a lot that the schools are going to see this initial score, they have already been sent out!
  7. Everywhere I'm applying is mid tier and none of them require the gre aside from one ? maybe I messed up sending them, I can retake though!
  8. I am a bit confused though, is that not a decent verbal score?
  9. Hey guys! Congrats to anyone that took the GRE today or recently. It's exhausting and most definitely a lot of work. I am applying to grad school and don't know many other people that have gone through the admissions process so I am using forums and reddit to learn more about the process. I took the GRE today and am worried my scores are awful! VERBAL-155 and QUANT-143. I am so sad about the math. Does anyone have any tips/resources to improve basic math skills quickly? I am not applying to a math based program so I am just shooting for a 150. Also any tips on how to better prepare for the swiftness of the verbal sections, the timing killed me! Lastly, would you submit these scores to schools or are they to bad to even send? I plan to take it again, but maybe since the verbal score is decent and if I get my math up it will benefit me for schools to see both scores... Good Luck to everyone studying/taking it soon!
  10. Hi All! I am new here to both reddit and applying to grad school and could use some advice and possible assurance :). I graduated this December from a major public university with a major in social services. I received a 3.02. I have about four Ws on my transcript and two FS, and quite a few Cs. Two semesters in my early years of school I did very poorly due to a medical issue I was dealing with. When you look at my past 4 semesters though I have done quite well and clearly have an upward trajectory of increasing my gpa each year. Would you write an extra statement to the admissions team stating why you received those bad grades those 2 semesters or put it in your personal statement of intent....or just let it slide and hope for the best. I was dealing with extreme dizziness and neurological symptoms due to undiagnosed hypothyroidism at the time. Other than that I have multiple internships, practicum experiences, and volunteer work, and will be receiving great letters of recommendation. I am applying to a Counseling Master's Program and do believe this will help a lot! Also, other question! My application deadline is April 1st. Should I take the GRE at the end of February to see how I do (first time taking it) and then depending on how I do and seeing what I need to study take it again mid march? Or just study hard and take it once in mid march only? Thank you guys!
