  1. Hey, I've also not heard anything, and have been wondering when this is coming! I've been looking for a group as well but haven't seen anything yet.
  2. Hey, I'm domestic! I haven't heard of one yet, but I've also been looking. Count me in if there's one!
  3. I accepted the offer last Friday but did not hear any info yet, only a confirmation email from the staff.
  4. Hey all, got my waitlist email from UofT 2 year MSW as well. I've already accepted my offer to King's, so just wanted to let people know I'll be rejecting UofT and thus making the waitlist a little bit shorter ? congrats to everyone who got accepted, and good luck to everyone still waiting. Please don't give up!
  5. Thanks! Follow up question, do we know if they tend to send out acceptances over several days, or all at the same time?
  6. I'm also wondering the same thing. I haven't received any new credentials with the application. I can still access my account from when I was in undergrad at UofT, but that was several years ago. Does anyone know if it would automatically connect my application to the ACORN account from before?
  7. Hey I shared my stats in a previous post if you'd like to check it out.
  8. Hey, It's not over yet, my fingers are crossed for you in this and any other schools you've applied to! They gave me until the end of the month to respond. Hope it helps!
  9. I can't believe it, but I just got my acceptance letter from King's (2 year). I am in shock, I honestly can't believe it... I was certain I won't get in this year. I keep going back to the letter and rechecking that I read it correctly. Good luck to everyone else who is waiting, this has been incredibly painful and I'm so glad it's over.
  10. Hey, I'm sorry!! It really sucks getting declined, and I feel you. I hope you get at least one acceptance from the other schools, and I will hold my fingers crossed for you! As a side note, I feel like that's quite early to hear back. Does anyone know if this is normal, or is this a sign that decisions are rolling early this year? I thought we will start hearing in March.
  11. Why don't you apply to both BSW and MSW? That way if you don't get into MSW, you still can get your degree in SW. You can work in Canada with a BSW, and eventually, continue to your MSW. From a post-degree BSW to an MSW is 3 years, versus the 2 years of MSW for non-BSW students. Not much of a big difference, and you also get to have more of a foundation and more hours in practicums.
  12. Hey! I'm applying to York, UofT and King's. Is this your first time applying? How do you feel about your experience/education?
  13. Hey everyone! I'm glad @madamemsw2022 started this thread, I would've been lost without the previous years' threads, and I'm looking forward to connecting with everyone I will be applying to the 2-year MSW programs at UofT, York, and King's. I didn't think I will be applying this year, as I thought I didn't have enough experience. I got lucky, however, and after such a long time searching I've found a (paid) position in a settlement agency, and I am working to create programs for newcomers, especially seniors and children (hopefully around 600 hours). I have also been volunteering on a crisis line, and will have around 300 hours there. Before that, I've done a few research-related volunteering positions, which bring me around 2000 hours. I've had a few more less related volunteering positions as well. Overall, I am hoping to have just over 4,000 hours of social-services/research-related positions. My cGPA kinda sucks, because I've had a tough time when I started my degree, and it took me a while to figure my life out after that. However, I've completed my BA in psych with an A in the final year (from York, about 8.5 GPA), and have only received A's and A+'s in the last two years or so. I've done 3 research courses, stats I (A+), stats II (A) and research methods (A+). I've been putting a ton of work into the statements the past few months, as I understand that it counts a lot. Really not feeling all too confident about my application, but then, who does?! I've got a bunch of weak-spots that I have been trying to account for, like the lack of experience in the field (esp paid). Also, as I've mentioned, I've messed up a lot of my courses back in the day, before I got my head together. Still, I hope that I would have a chance to get in this year. Would love to hear from you guys! p.s. @FrostyMoon what an amazing contribution! Thank you so much!
  14. Thank you very much for your kind words, it is very helpful. I am wondering if I could ask you a couple more questions about what you said: Would you mind explaining what you mean when you say "present information in your personal statement to flesh out the picture of your education"? How would I go about explaining that I was a terrible student some years ago because of personal issues, without also making myself sound like I'm not suitable for grad school? Also, and this may be a bit of a silly question, but how do I go about finding out what schools look for in their candidates? Or if they are holistic? And what they would focus on in terms of the student, as well as the focus of the school in general? Thanks so much for that! I do think that UofT would be a better fit for me, given that I would like to focus on the clinical aspect more. In terms of my grades, it's really weird. I don't know how they would calculate the GPA. I mean, if they want the last 10 semester-courses in the 3rd or 4th year level, they would have to go back into my previous transcript. Then, it's really a question of which courses they look at in my last session. Major-related ones would be in the 75ish, which would bring my average down a bit. Other non-major courses, I actually have two 3rd year courses that I got a 90 and 100 in. So it's really hard for me to even say if it's worth it. One thing I got from York, after talking to their department, is that since I finished the rest of my degree in York they said they would only look at my GPA in York, not in any previous sessions...
  15. Hey all, Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted to their programs! I am looking into applying either this or next year to MSW programs. I was hoping to get some advice from you all, about whether I should even bother applying or if I can somehow improve. I am graduating this year with BA in Psych. I've started my degree quite some time ago, didn't do amazing for the first few years, and ended up stopping after about 2.5 years to work and to deal with my own mental health. After about 3 years hiatus, I went back and finished my degree. I have a high GPA from York, with 8.5/9 and all in the A's and A+. I also got an A+ in my undergrad stats and A+ in both research methods and writing in psychology courses. I did not do my degree full-course load, as I was working, and have a family, and in general I was trying to get through it with having ADD and other related issues (which by the end of it I feel that I've got completely under control). My last few courses in undergrad were not very good, with some C's and B's, so if taking those courses into consideration my GPA might be slightly lower for the senior year. In addition, I've done some volunteering. I volunteered for a few years in CAMH, getting about 500 hours. I've also been writing articles for a medical newspaper online for 3 years now, basically surveying scientific literature on mental health and psychology. I've done about 100 articles to this day, which would be about 1000-1500 hours. I'm taking a year off now, trying to improve my CV. I've started training for a crisis line and for hospice support, which I hope to do as much as I can until next year's deadline. I'm also looking for work in the field, but not sure if I'll be able to find anything relevant. I've secured some referees with my profs, and would be getting references from my volunteering placements too. I'm not sure how good the references from my prof will be, as I've not done any research in undergrad so there are no close relationships per se. However, I am very confident about references from the volunteer positions. Would you guys say I have any chance of getting into an MSW program? I will also be applying to BSW post-degree programs, although there aren't too many. I've spoken to York's SW department, and was told I should apply this year to both the BSW and the MSW, but I really don't feel confident about that, seeing as I have no work experience in the field at all, having worked in kitchens and restaurants all through my life to get by. I would really appreciate any advice you guys could give, All the best and stay safe!
