  1. From my experience with Oxford, they notify shortly after the decision date. My decision (first admissions cycle, so January) was delivered about 10 days after the decision date deadline. So you probably should hear soon.
  2. Agreed. I suggest you send an e-mail to the department formally accepting the offer, and then set up an account (with e-mail!) with Stanford Axess using the ID they provided you with in the very first acceptance e-mail, and accept the offer electronically through your account.
  3. This all sounds so weird. I would be so awkward... and proper if I had to live with a professor.
  4. I am doing a one-year Masters, and I have to write a dissertation over the summer. No money-making and very little fun.
  5. I would absolutely go with the funded offer. I had a very similar dilemma last year. It was killing me as I dreamed of the school which offered me no funding for years. I eventually went with the fully funded offer, and never regretted it since. I am now about to start a Ph.D. programme at my top-choice school and I have no debt from Master's years! It of course depends on your particular circumstances but, really, in the current economic climate, it is hardly advisable to take on debt for a Masters degree if you have another option. The very best to you with the decision!
  6. I don't want to generalise but I think this is the case in many British universities. Then again, few of them have their own issues with Modern MES - like dumping it into a big 'Oriental' Dept alongside Chinese and Japanese Studies.
  7. You sound like you are very organised and I totally applaud this. You need to be organised! I suggest you study super-hard for GRE: try to break into 1400. Also, if there is no research fit at the school (no research fit whatsoever but you like the school) - do not apply. It will likely be a waste of money on application fee. I would also recommend applying for a couple of funder Masters AND adding a couple of Ph.D's in safety schools.
