  2. Got my Columbia decision a couple of minutes ago. I am not being particularly popular with the East Coast.

  5. Here in the UKm in both my undergraduate and Master's institutions, there is quite a number of over-50 Ph.D.s. For bizarre reasons, all of those whom I know do theology/religious studies/mediaeval studies. But, yeah, people definitely do it! If it is your dream, it is never never late to pursue it! All the best to you!
  6. First of all, there is absolutely nothing shameful in telling people that you got rejected from somewhere. Absolutely nothing! Besides, you will be telling this to someone in the same programme as you - you are on the same level, got into the same school, chose the same school, absolutely 'equal' (if this is what bothers you). Secondly, if you do want to avoid 'confessing', just say that you only applied to one programme - the one you got accepted to. Very cool, risky, self-confident and somewhat arrogant, no? Huge congratulations on your offer! Fear nothing and be deservedly proud of your accomplishment!

  9. Hi! I had to reject my alma mater last year as well. It was awkward-ish but everyone was really understanding (the same situation: got full funding elsewhere and only partial funding 'at home'). Are you sure you have to write something to the rest of the faculty in your department? If your referees (presumably, the one have the closest relationship with) already know and are totally cool and happy for you, do you need to tell other faculty? Are you that close with the rest? Perhaps, you can just say it to them when you see them (informal interaction = easier and more hearty). I am sure everyone understands and will be happy for you! Don't feel guilty - absolutely no need for this! And big congratulations on your funded offer!
  10. I haven't heard from them in two months either. College decision should come very soon. All the best to you!

  16. Well.... strictly speaking, the results board is for ... results! For questions, there is a forum. In the past, moderators tolerated questions there for a certain period of time. After a while, those questions would be deleted. I believe the procedure remains roughly the same.

  21. Samarkand, if it is what it is, HUGE congratulations! Although if that it is what it is, I am not in since I didn't get a magic e-mail! What's your top choice?
  22. Amen. I came to the exact same conclusion. It is awesome if one has perfect GRE, GPA and a decent writing sample (actually... due to the number of applicants these days, it became kind of a given) but what really gets you in or out is a fit with the programme and the faculty. Oh, and full funding!!! for Masters!!! at NYU!!! is very impressive! Ans.diffident, you should be ecstatic right now!

  25. I can only say that you seem to be knowing what you are doing. You are rationalising things; you know your strengths and weaknesses. I think you are doing everything well. The range of schools you outlines sounds about right. Have you thought of applying to Europe? Not to generalise but it may be easier to get into a top school in Europe (true, way harder with funding). Living in Europe will also be beneficial for your language skills and all kinds of cool summer internships in IR.
