  1. Can't! Can't! Must log on! *trembles from withdrawal*
  2. Hmm... I am of the view that it would be good as a fourth reference, but I suppose I won't personally use character reference for the first three LORs. Good luck with your application!
  3. I think that's what's stopping the money-churning ETS from reporting unscheduled exams. What can be better than lightening people's purses without actually doing anything? Besides which, if they actually recorded it, wouldn't that make us neurotic graduate student wannabes actually show up for the test?
  4. 5. There are ~10 schools that offer my field in the US, and I ran out of money, and energy.
  5. I also wished I applied to more schools. But I simply ran out of both $$$ and energy. Shall just wait and see, and if this doesn't work out, I'll just apply to more schools in round two.
  6. Some of them just never bother with prospective graduate students. Don't take it personally.
  7. This is just my feeling, based on my applications. For the applications that arrived just before the deadline, I actually obtained some confirmation from the graduate coordinators that my materials have been received and will be looked at. By contrast, for the applications that I sent in ahead of time, so far, I have heard zip from these schools, even though my last deadline was over more than 10 days ago. I guess that's my long-winded way of saying, as long as there are no rolling admissions/priority deadlines, it is all crapshoot? I am now fretting that some of these schools might not have received my documents and will just toss it aside, without informing me beforehand. Time to figure out ways to demand back my application fee if that happens. But I won't implement that plan before May.
  8. Your scores look okay to me, if my opinion is worth anything.
  9. Hmm... My nightmare is, only one of the schools I applied to, calls informing of my admission me with full funding. ... only to have them call the next day, informing me that they called the wrong person and that I have been rejected as well.
  10. *cough* Now we know which professors submitted their assignments at the very last minute when they were students.
  11. You'll be fine mims. I have a friend who got into an Ivy with 50% in both verbal and math. And another friend also in an Ivy told me that basically, one of her successful fellow applicants didn't even send in his/her GREs.
  12. Oh yeah, I think my recommenders knew that. Hence, they did not eye the purchased gifts with any suspicion!
  13. I try to take comfort in the fact that none of the updates are in my major. Not helping much, though.
  14. It might be because your percentile depends on your fellow test takers. So at the point when you took it, you were at X percentile, but that changed, when you re-reported the missing one? Just a guess on my part. Cheer up! I'm sure it'll all work out fine. Though a big tsk tsk to ETS for messing up!
  15. I guess you mean decision status, and not application material status? I think UCLA has one for the former.
  16. Great advice! Though I think I'll use this, if I reach the point when I get offers. *fingers crossed*
  17. I think I have been to Thailand about five times. I live in a Southeast Asian country as well. If your scholarship requires you to return to Thailand to teach, I think applying to safety schools just to get in this round will be okay. I understand from my classmates that the pedigree of your degree doesn't really matter in Thai universities, only the quality of your publications. However, if you are thinking of getting a job in the US after you graduate, do take into account the placement record of the safety schools you are applying to.
  18. Hi! At the homepage of the embark application page, right at the bottom, there should be a link for application status. Can't quite remember what it is named exactly. Do tell if there are any real updates, though. I have been checking it since the day I submitted, but there have been no updates. In the end, I e-mailed the department I applied to. (no reply either)
