OMG yes! I know I'll suddenly have no idea what to say, what questions to ask, etc and just be super awkward! I've only been out of school for a year, but I'm worried that my brain has atrophied or something. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. -

Congrats to you both! And thanks for the replies. I hope they're not done notifying yet! -
Anyone willing to claim it? I seem to remember them notifying over a couple of days last year.

Thanks! Pretty likely, but I want to wait until I've visited (and heard back from the rest of my schools) to say for sure. -

Sorry:( If it helps at all, I was rejected from this program last year and this year I was accepted with a fellowship nomination...so applying again is definitely a good idea! I'm certainly glad I did. -

Posting your acceptance on facebook
the once and future grad replied to Mathk1d's topic in Waiting it Out
I posted something fairly cryptic ("what a difference a year makes") when I got an unofficial offer a few weeks ago, but I probably won't post again until I know where I'm going. I get pretty annoyed when people post constant updates about developing life situations ("second interview today," "getting ready to put in an offer on the house," etc), so in an effort to avoid TMI, I'll wait until I can post "the once and future grad will be attending Howarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this fall!" -

There's a PhD admit up now too! Congrats to the acceptees! Looks like excellent funding, too. I'll be neurotically checking my email every 30 seconds for the next couple of days -

I'm still in play too. I'm really happy with my one admit, but Rochester is high on my list - Alan Lupack is the best there is in my sub-subfield. -

I haven't heard anything either. But now that I know how they feel about applicants who already have MAs, I'm not holding my breath! -

Huh, I never thought of that. I think they said that, if you're admitted, they need the official transcript before you enroll. I don't know if that means they need it in order to make an offer. I remember last year, a message went up on the English department's website saying "we notified all admitted and waitlisted students on February 2* [i think it was the 26th]. If you haven't heard from us, you have not been accepted" but I didn't get the official rejection email until a couple of weeks later. I've started keeping an eye on their website. -
Ohio State acceptances
the once and future grad replied to fall-11's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
My status still said "in review" when the system went down for maintenance last night. I'm tempted to look at this positively, and think that we might be on some sort of unofficial waitlist, but I know that that's dangerous. -

Thanks Woolfie! I'm interested in intersections between medieval (Arthurian) lit and British Modernism, especially as it relates to modern nationalism and national identities. My proposed project involves T.H. White, Virginia Woolf, and Goeffrey of Monmouth (it's a little crazy). -

Mine begins with a V and I've already been rejected! So maybe the fact that yours is still pending is a good thing? I've assumed that I haven't been rejected from OSU yet because they're going alphabetically. -

Hey wrader, I did my undergrad at UMD (different field, though) and have lived in the next county over most of my life. The area around College Park is pretty affordable, especially for this region. If you're going to have a car and can live a mile or two away from campus, it'll be quieter and nicer (fewer undergrads). The university also had decent grad housing, I've heard, but I've never been to them. If you want to know anything about the area, feel free to ask! -

Thanks for making me smile And hey, don't count your rejections before they're hatched - there's still hope until/unless you see that lovely "denied." -

the once and future grad replied to murkyama's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Ugh, I had to call them to reset my password just so I could log in and confirm that I was rejected ("denied" actually sounds somehow worse, doesn't it?) and the IT guy wanted to walk me through resetting my password. No point in that, since I'll never be logging in again.... -

The expressionistic play between sound and history in The Wizard of Oz conforms to the post-war crisis of masculinity. -

It's meeee! I'm only a fellowship nominee right now, but they are "committed to admitting me and providing me with support" regardless of whether I get the fellowship. So happy! I can't believe what a difference a year has made. EDIT: Email was from the DGS. Good luck to everyone else! -
Coping with Waiting. Last night, I had a nightmare.
the once and future grad replied to Waves's topic in Waiting it Out
I had a dream that someone on here had gotten hold of lists of applicants from a bunch of schools with the committee's notes on them...so I'm on gradcafe scouring the lists for the schools I applied to, and all of them, next to my name, say indecipherable things like "not now" and "beach" except the one school that I really think I have a shot at, which says "no." Oh, and I had completely forgotten about DJ's dream, but that kind of made my day:)
