  1. This is what keeps me checking even though I basically KNOW (from past threads) that all of my schools email or snail mail first... I tell myself: Maybe this hour (or this minute... haha) they decided to change my website status!
  2. Great advice! I'm in the Lake Merritt area right now It's good to be real - I was just saying that it is "doable," as I've been living it! Edit: But your 5yrs trumps mine - wish I had talked to someone like you before I moved here in 2009 and realized the costs.
  3. It's figuring out WHAT exactly will bring that personal happiness that has ME so crazy/excited/nervous/fill-in-the-blank. BUT. I love how you said that - nicely worded, Sevi.
  4. March madness indeed. I'm jealous - I would love to know the exact dates of decisions, I'm watching my mailbox (both email and postal) like I'm waiting for something magical to happen. Fireworks, perhaps?
  5. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any money is great! Celebrate!
  6. My own 2 cents: I lived a year and a half in Berkeley and survived on an Americorps stipend (comes out to $12,000/yr post taxes - just filed 'em ) and it wasn't all fun and games but it was doable. I lived in two different places, and the most I paid for rent was $650 (my own room.) Now was that the norm? Not necessarily. Are places close to campus expensive? Hell yes. But I lived in two nice apartments and commuting (especially with BART) made it doable. However, joenobody DOES have a point - it wasn't a reasonable standard of living. I don't think anyone should live as frugally as I did and call it the "norm." A taxed $17.5 stipend for 9 months = VERY frugal. Loans might be a necessity. Or move to Oakland and BART
  7. Interesting, I've never heard that before - but I'm juuuust paying off my undergrad debts right now, two years out, so I guess that makes sense (thank goodness for the Americorps Ed Awards.) I MAY go with a program that will cover tuition, but then I'll have to take out loans for my cost of living expenses... I'm very curious about what others think is "manageable" as well! Edit: A question - does anyone think funding can be "negotiable" for Master's programs, or is that something only common (or at least more common) at the PhD level?
  8. It is REALLY hard when there are big gaps between schools' acceptances/rejcections because I can't help but imagine life at one of the 2 programs that ARE options for me. After all of the research/work of the application process, I feel like I should start preparing myself for my new location/look for housing/talk to future classmates - but I REFUSE to get my hopes up about programs that haven't made their decisions yet! In repsonse to the OP - YES. Just telling myself "somebody wants me" helps the anxiety (a little.)
  9. Whoa, didn't know they interviewed!!! I applied for the 2yr Pittsburgh track, radio silence over here.
  10. Thanks for the reply mushroom. And I can't believe I forgot to say- CONGRATULATIONS! You are awesome.
  11. Yep. Shadow series FTW.
  12. From what I can gather from last year, GSPP emailed applicants who are currently abroad/not in the U.S. as well as sent them snail mail, but they ONLY notified domestic applicants via postal. Am I onto something? Mushroom288 is that your situation?
  13. This. I dearly love the man, and will re-read his books until the ice-nine takes us all. Also, just finished Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (holy WOW, what a mind-trip) and I'm debating on what's next...
  14. Yo momma so dumb, her undergraduate institution refused to send her transcripts due to pure embarrassment. Yo momma so dumb AND so fat, she checked that she "gets" Japanese on her applications because she orders it for delivery at least twice a day.
  15. Where did February go?! THIS MONTH I will (basically) know where the next two years will take me?!? THE NEXT TWO WEEKS may have an impact on the rest of my freakin' life?!?!?! *Just a lil' glimpse of the thoughts battling it out for top billing in my head * Good luck, all!
  16. It looks like from previous results trends that mid-March has been the Judgement Day(s)... BUT the minute I saw this topic my stomach dropped - I'm so nercited! (Nervous/excited) I hope it is this week!!! Edit: I'm wrong! Many Fall 2010 applicants DID hear back in the first wk! Aiiieeeeee!
  17. Oh, and I've started a twitter-fight with a midget/actor because, for some reason, his tweets were really p*ssing me off.
  18. Yep - that's why I applied there (and the other 5 schools that match the award.) But the promise is that they (GWU, etc) "at least" match the $5,000. So the question is if they go above and beyond the amount
  19. Say WHAAA? Post that link!
  20. Hahahaha. But your hair will thank you.
  21. This. It's kind to imply that the applicant was qualified. Even if it's insincere - it's okay Rejection Letter, you can lie to me.
  22. I honestly feel the love. Thanks MoJingly! Oh, and my request is "Whip My Hair" by Willow Smith. (JK )
  23. I'm a new applicant so this is my first go-around. I just want to say though - you guys are amazing. Honestly. The persistence, courage, and drive that it must take to go through this agonizing process TWICE is incredible, and I am so impressed! I really hope that round 2 really brings you all what you want - you deserve it!
  24. This is kind of amazing. I give MAJOR props to that school. And a singing message announcing acceptance is straight out of Harry Potter, which makes it that much better. Honestly, this process would be pseudo-enjoyable if all grad school-related emails had a tune/beat. Then even "We are processing your applications now, please stop emailing us you crazies" would be exciting to hear.
