  1. Are you nervous that we could potentially hear about interviews this week? I am mostly because of the mass amounts of rejections from last cycle. There's not much to go on unless you go back to 2010! Argh!
  2. I'm with Lomo. Only one of my schools has a history of sending out notification in January (and it was only once out of the recent results). Notre Dame has sent out interviews in late January, but I'm trying not to worry about that. Of course I'm being anxious already, but I know nothing will happen until at least the second week of February. We can all make it guys!!
  3. That was my worst nightmare leading up the deadlines. Especially with the few schools that need things mailed. The only school that hasn't replied to one of my emails is UT Dallas. Their online status check is pretty much rubbish. I suppose I should email someone again, but I'm not really worried since I know they should have everything. I think the worst paper for you, AFB, was the rudeness. I hate when people are rude like that for no reason. It wasn't your fault you got married!
  4. I think someone here said that it's just to get data about who the school is competing for student for (correct me if that's not 100% right), but isnt used against the applicant at all. One of my applications had 10 slots to pick schools. The first 6 or so had drop down menus where you could ONLY pick certain schools (like out of the top 20 schools). The other four slots you could write in schools. I had to leave about 2 drop down slots blank because I wasn't applying to anymore of those schools.
  5. Word. How I wish I was apart of this highfalutin crowd.
  6. A friend of mine who is getting an MA in genetic counseling got all her decisions on one day (along with everyone in that program). However it was late April before she heard, which would absolutely kill me.
  7. Some websites say, some results on the survey board say. The results threads in the forum will sometimes have people state how much they received. But I do believe it can vary from year to year (like last year U Mich history acceptees received a BIG stipend), so I would ask the program if it's not on the website.
  8. The two I liked best out of the family reunion was the Kosmos and the Old Time Alt. Mmmm soooo tasty. I need to remember to pick up another pack before it disappears.
  9. I did last year! I applied to a state school in which I am a resident and they gave me back half about two months after I applied. No clue why, but it was nice.
  10. Ugh! I guess today will be another boring day on this forum, which means that I'll be forced to actually work at work!
  11. I've come to say that you have mighty good taste. I'm loving the Shiner Family Reunion packs that they have out now. I'll probably need to stock up in case I do get rejected from UT as well.
  12. I considered doing this over the summer as well, but I just never fully explored the option (other than browsing the websites once or twice). My boyfriend and I talk about emigrating over there. Oh well! Can't dwell on what ifs now.
  13. Jealous! I want an encouraging email to get me through this week/month. But congrats!
  14. Crater, I'd say take that single posting with a grain of salt, especially since there were no details on the board or in the forum. This place tends to be credible, but you can never be 100%. Don't count yourself out yet!
  15. I remember thinking last year, when early acceptances started rolling it, "Dammit, why didn't I apply to any of these schools!?" I still feel the same way, and it does a good job to make me smile! Today will be a good day.
  16. I did the same exact thing in two or three of my sops. it was heartbreaking for about two minutes, but then I realized that maybe they'll understand and/or see my passion. (I think the work was academic, so obviously I'm double-ly enthusiastic for it.) The worst part was that I realized that mistake on one of my first proof-readings and deleted it. I am not sure if I saved it on the template sop, or if I just deleted it from all the ones I did first and forgot to save the template. Oh well, what can you do.
  17. Just imagine if Hogwarts or other magical schools had graduate school. Would you get a rejection letter that screams at you? That would be the real nightmare.
  18. The most memorable moment from this season (so far) had little to do with the applications. One day I opened my mailbox to find three copies of a historical journal. I had no idea why they would send me one copy, let alone three... until I opened it up to find my paper was published! I had entered a competition in the Spring, which one of my classmates won, so I hadn't expected it at all (especially five months later)! Mine was the only paper in the volume which had not won (there was the ungraduate winner, graduate winner and another sort of winner), so I think that means mine was pretty special. Or only four people submitted papers. Either way it was a win for me. But, more importantly, it was just in time for my applications.
  19. goldielocks, I think you're a little too old to be applying for Hogwarts...
  20. Your alternate life has my alternate (alternate-alternate?) life! Another girl from my ungrad and I decided our back up plan would be to open a tea shop near our college. I named it Sovereign-Tea. Ahh, if only.
  21. I am a round two applicant as well! Your story is very familiar. However, I was only accepted to one school out of five. I did not take the acceptance due to the schools financial troubles and complete lack of confidence that it would get better. I know the anxiety that comes with the wait all too well. I'm hoping to handle it differently this year, because instead of being in school I'm at work all day. That should force me to think about something else, and not constantly refresh the results board/History forum (I was seriously on my phone or laptop all day during and in between classes last year. I would even drive home after I knew the mail had been delivered just to check). Of course, I can still check this place and watch my email carefully, but I'm determined to not let it take over my life! Plus, I go home for lunch right around mail time, so there's no rushing for that either! Additionally, I have a rambunctious ball of energy called a corgi puppy that I can take for walks or kick a soccer ball around with to ease my anxiety and get my mind off things this go around!
  22. Thank you! That dream does sound crazy. I haven't had any grad school related dreams, which is awesome, because they would probably drive me nuts. However, I did have one where my boyfriend was in league with a serial killer. I'd take your game show dream over that any day.
  23. Ahh this is all very exciting. Congrats CPetersen! Don't worry goldielocks, you aren't the only turtle looking out the rainy window. The past few months have been going by rather quickly for me, but I think molasses is going by quicker than January. I started to mark off the days on my work calendar (something I never do), just to see how far I've come and how much waiting is left. In other news, I got word over the weekend that my senior thesis was accepted to be published again! The journal is a student run historical journal out of a university in Louisiana, but nevertheless, exciting news!
  24. I'm really interested in political history in Europe, but in almost every PoliSci class I took I would write about things related to Africa. If I had to change, I'd probably go straight political science and go work in an NGO or some IR job, focusing on Africa. That or physics. I really enjoyed physics. I guess I just like quantitative data. Haha.
  25. I'm sure they do! But how often do you get envelopes like that. I quickly imagined the packet of information welcoming somewhere that wanted me. It's probably because work was rough today! I want any good news so I can imagine putting in my two weeks.
