  1. Everything, okay, I'll give it a shot. I'm on break right now so it's fresh in my mind that you get about 2 weeks between semesters and I'd encourage you to plan a vacation for each of them . USC is on of the only programs I know of that do not require an MSW for acceptance, but that may be changing to requiring an MSW, so you found the program at the right time. I did take the traditional MSW --> DSW route, I have 13ish years of experience working in some aspect of social services or mental health. I think I had a 3.78 GPA when I got my MSW and was in the Macro Track. I was looking at going back to NYU or UPenn for my DSW but got into the idea of USC due to the macro focus. I'm on the overall younger end of my cohort (I'm around 40) making me think that they prioritize work experience over other aspects of the application. The application has change sense I got in a couple years ago, so I may be outdated a bit but it was a fairly supported process with check-ins and guidance from the school. They took extra references when I couldn't decide on who to go with, and were generally cheerleaders. I got a phone call for my acceptance and help getting set up. I am enjoying the program and despite being tired I'm also looking forward to next semester. There are some glaring short comings when addressing racism on the part of the school, but I have had mostly wonderful professors who help close that gap (If you choose to attend USC and want professor recommendations I can give you thoughts along the way). Not being an MSW may prove to give you a few moments of frustration as a few friends I have in the program said they felt like they were playing catch up. I don't think it was anything major and the program does recap a lot of SW concept. If you want to get your SW feet wet, review the SW code of ethics, SW grand challenges, what SW looks at biopsychosocial/micro-mezzo-macro. I don't know what about it got people, but I heard a number of people not get some concepts... or something. If you're up on it all, great! You're ahead of the game!! I'm sure I'm missing something, I'll add too this when I think of more.
  2. I think I am the people at USC ? Happy to help, what'cha wanna know about?
  3. Congrats!! that's fantastic to hear!! Do you know when you present? ???
  4. Currently I'm at USC, who loves to talk about the number of first gen students they have and about being multi-cultural. My program is in fact quite diverse with a large African American/BIPOC population. Unfortunately the school has almost no one teaching that resembles us and quite a few people who are unable to talk about race and racism (pick your ism really) in an appropriate way. Not just my experience, but the feeling from a large group of students. some of them have gone to the point of working against it. Check them out here==> https://www.change.org/AntiRacistCurriculumUSC (I am learning a lot though!) I have a friend who attended UW for their MSW and has expressed a positive experience there. I can pass on questions if you have anything you specifically want to know about.

    New York, NY

I'd be curious about joining people for a coffee or something if it ends up happening. I've thought about these before but never done it. (I'm not new to the city so maybe helpful, possibly less excitement brought by me ?)
  6. sounds good to me! nice name change btw.
  7. I didn't see the comment you made about starting a new thread, but this seems like a great post to quote (Congrats again!) I was thinking that new thread could be well timed so the convo keeps going and has some traction early (probably the same thing you said it the post I didn't find) and now that your in it seems like there is some closure on this thread (too social workie a way of thinking about it? ?)
  8. Additionally LCSW's are able to work in every state, where LMHC/LMFT/M.Ed etc. are often limited in their capacity based on state regulation and license reciprocity.
  9. Congrats on your ASW graduation! Well earned! and best of luck with Fordham!
  10. the free thing, I don't know how to explain it. I just know the administrators tell me that I will have some of it and that it is good. I'm trying to trust them. fingers crossed! I wish we could just wrap this thread into next year.
  11. Oh, I have a goldstone maybe a mile away!
  12. Also, what sweet dogs!!! and another of my enjoyed ice creams, when I have had it at little creameries that do their own, I would probably take it over Mint Chip.
  13. I was just watching a pair of Goldens at the pride race yesterday, one was red and the other light blond/gold, now I find out the difference, I should have checked this message sooner!
  14. YES!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!! I'm so excited for you!!! Time to get on the "what do I do with my free time before school starts" band wagon!! So fantastic! ??
  15. Yes, we have class every summer, although this is the fullest summer. Next year will be one class with instruction and research (I hear that is going to give me more flexibility to go to the beach eat ice cream) the following summer will be prepping to defend and then defending. So exciting and so much to do in only a couple of years! That and finding ice cream with brownie pieces.
  16. Any word? If you haven't heard back by now I would reach out to them personally. +1
  17. I don't know how this all works out, but I would be concerned to have MSW's minimized as they do sooooo much work in the world of helping people and universities have enough of their money as is. I'll take another, deeper, look at this again. I'm curious how this plays out for sure! Thanks for sharing!
  18. I'm with you on June flying by. It's.... it's going. my courses really need to be the full 15 weeks and the summer schedule plus holidays that fall on Mondays have one of my courses down to 10 sessions. But what are ya gonna do. I can't believe that the semester is half over already.
  19. Training a puppy!!! You lost me for everything else you said. I'm sure it was important, but I'm too distracted. What kind of puppy? My puppy is 13 going on 3 (or at least thinks he is)
  20. I was going to say mint chip but now you have me thinking about chocolate, caramel, and brownie pieces! that sounds delicious ? I'm in full school mode but enjoying the botanical gardens whenever I can. I'm hoping to add a beach day or two if I can find the time and all coming up.
  21. Hopefully this was just not amusing to anyone and wasn’t too personal a question ? ? Or you’re actually out enjoying your summer plans, that sounds good too.
  22. How are the distractions coming? better yet, how is the school acceptance coming?!
  23. I'll take summer plans or your favorite flavor of ice cream.
  24. Anyone have anything fun or exciting to share? I'm working on papers again and want a distraction/pick me up!
