  1. WOW--that is very, very bizarre. And sort of insulting. Still waiting on Madison. Deadline was Jan 15. They won't tell anyone any results until they hear from those they offered fellowships to.

    Waitlists

Madison Comp Lit program has put all applicants, except those offered fellowships, on the wait list until after April 15, when they'll know who's taking fellowships, and when they'll finally send out acceptances and rejections. I think it's horrible of them.
  3. I received this email in response to my inquiry about the status of my application. I emailed them yesterday and received it promptly this morning, which is great. The catch is... the application deadline was January 15. It's taking them 3 (or more) months to make their decisions, and they're making the rest of the applicant pool wait on their response until after the decision deadline. So, basically, the MA applicants are all on the waitlist because the Comp Lit program can't take the time to write a rejection email in the three months they've been reviewing applications. What rude behavior have you faced over applications, inquiries, or other issues?
  4. I applied to Madison January 15, still haven't heard a thing!
  5. I had a Jan 15 deadline this year and I still haven't heard back.
  6. Still waiting on the masters comp lit program at Madison. They said they won't be sending out letters until next week at least. The application deadline was January 15...
  7. My friend who was born in the Sudan and moved here when she was very young applied to grad school. I was not admitted into a different program, and while that's irrelevant, it really stings that she was accepted and she's failed four classes in her pursued field. Burn...
  8. Yeah, just received my rejection two days ago. It was about time.
  9. 4/5. Waiting on my fifth. I feel you. This is devastating. And it also means I won't have health insurance starting in June.
  10. Reeeejected. I tried to post it in the whatsitcalled but it came up as "advanced computing". I don't feel like correcting myself.
  11. Yep, "Decision Made" on my app too. So unnecessarily suspenseful.
  12. Let us know what the reponse says, if you receive one! I still haven't heard either.
  13. "We will be making our Graduate admission decisions in the next 3-4 weeks. Thank you and if you have any other questions, please let me know. Diane"
  14. I received a hefty packet in the mail from Oregon. Backstory: I was rejected from the program to which I applied about three weeks ago. I opened it, thought "What the hell?" because it was information on housing in the area. It was dated March 9th. Two weeks after my rejection. Not only was it a waste of paper and money on their part (I thought OR was a very "green" state), but it got my hopes up. I was pissed. The letter enclosed said something to the effect of, "This isn't an acceptance letter. It's simply information you might find useful." ... Nope. Not really.
  15. I fet the exact same way, OP. I have yet to hear back from two, but I'm not feeling optimistic whatsoever. But then I remembered... My advisor, with whom I have conversed the most about graduate school and my most important recommender, I think, is a truly awesome woman. When I told her about Minnesota, she said to me, "Wow. They suck." She gets it, and for some reason, she takes on some responsibility for her unaccepted recommendees--which she shouldn't, but she wants to make sure that all of her advisees have secure plans for post-graduation. I'm really blessed to have known her.
  16. Thank you, everyone, for you helpful responses. I will discuss these other options with my parents over spring break. My mother's sort of behaving erratically, suggesting odd things that might fix my "problem" which, right now, I'm not entirely sure exists, because I have yet to hear from two schools as well as a Fulbright teaching program. COBRA--I have never heard of that, and I don't think my dad has, either. I'll bring that up! Thanks for alerting me of its existence!
  17. Ouch. Okay, thanks for the information. ETA: For both the PhD and Masters programs? I applied to the latter.
  18. So, my parents are on edge about my rejections from graduate school. If I'm not accepted, I will no longer have health insurance, because I will no longer be a student. For those of you intending to take the year off and re-apply next winter--what will you do about health insurance? Just suck it up and pay it? My parents want me to transfer to a state school and just take inane classes next year, because that will be cheaper than paying health insurance. Thing is... this sounds really, really bad to me.
  19. Has anyone heard from them, yet? It's been two months now, and the website still says "pending" and "application fee received".
  20. Very odd indeed... I have no clue. But mine does not read "decision made". Perhaps they'd simply like to inform everyone at the same time! I think we have a bit longer of a wait, but not much longer, since we submitted almost a month ago!
  21. I'm fluent in German, so Germany would be most useful and the easiest in that respect. I'd contact the department to see whether there are classes taught in English or a professor willing to work with you in English. And I actually studied abroad in Vienna! It IS a fantastic city! I miss it terribly. That's why I feel very drawn to it.
