  2. I'm right there with you. I only applied to 3 and I have thoughts about other programs, even though I'm happy with my three choices. Good luck to you If you go, erbrown, please let me know about your visit!

  5. As a lover of dystopian literature, I'm always on the lookout for contemporary authors who write in this genre. Last week, I stumbled upon Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart. I enjoyed it!

  7. I love your list of schools! Yes, GLB is the rockstar I mentioned and she is so warm and kind!! Everyone in Curriculum & Instruction was helpful. Plus, people in Madison were nice in general. It seems like a wonderful city. I think you should visit! The thought never crossed my mind until my former advisor suggested that I visit prior to applying or being accepted, just to get a better feel for the programs. Since you have so many schools, maybe you would reserve your visits for your top choices(?) since it can add up. And, even if we don't get accepted, at least we got a fun trip out of the deal

Congrats! Alas, I have four more...

  9. gellert, I received a recent alert and I wondered if it was a professor or a former (or current) middle school student. They google me constantly (I know because they have told me). It seems ridiculous that a secondary student would search for me on academia.edu, but last year someone told me that she had found my teaching philosophy (and read it!) via google, so maybe it's not that farfetched. I also do not have a common name.
  10. From what I've heard, adcomms start meeting in January, depending on when they return after winter break. Some schools don't return until after the MLK holiday, so that provides more time.

  12. I think they mean they have signed up for academia.edu After you sign up, you receive email alerts when people use google to search for your name.
  13. Finally finished! We'll see what happens.
  14. I'm PMing you.
  15. Well, I hope you get accepted this time around.
  16. I'm on vacation until a few days after the new year, so I'm relaxing. Also, baking! Tonight I made vegan cinnamon rolls
  17. When is the deadline? When is the LOR deadline? Have you heard anything from this professor regarding the letter(s)? If you're able to get another person to write for you, I think that will be fine and you shouldn't have to explain anything to the schools. Don't mope; everything will work out.
  18. Congrats!!! Rising_star's advice is spot on.
  19. Whoa, that woman sounds like a serious pain in the ...! Ugh. I wish you had never told her anything. Maybe you can turn her questions around. Every time she starts to ask you a question, ask her one that is equally as intrusive...
  20. I love that we're starting to have interaction and dialogue with our prospective programs! This is all so exciting!! So, I'm one of these people who went on campus visits before applying and post applying (in the case of Madison) at the suggestion of one of my mentors. I've been in Madison for a few days meeting with a few professors and I love everything about the program, the people, and the environment. I feel like my original number one choice might be sliding down to second. There were many highlights of this trip -- one was spending an entire afternoon with a critical race theory/multicultural ed rockstar! Another was when a professor casually mentioned that several faculty members had already expressed interest in working with me. I hope we all receive offers in a few months!!
  21. Awesome!! Let us know how it went
  22. congrats!!
  23. I've become addicted to thegradcafe.com. Seriously, I obsessively check posts possibly to distract myself while maintaining my last bits of sanity. Also, I'm not living in the present. I can't stop thinking about the future, which means I'm missing out on things that are going on around me. It's not good
  24. The LOR process is one of those formalities that I would love to see change. So many people seem to have issues around this. Plus, it's unfair that it is completely outside of our control and programs can potentially not review the application based on one letter writer. I hope that isn't the case for you. I hope that your application is reviewed. Was this your top choice?
