  1. On Berkeley's site, it indicates between February and April. I'm not sure when UC Davis (or other UCs) begins reviewing.
  2. I don't think it will be the same. Applications seem to be problematic because there are so many and (most of the time) not many people putting together applicant files. On the other hand, when you become a graduate student, there will be far fewer people in your cohort. At that time, whoever handles your paperwork within your division should not have a problem keeping up with administrative matters.
  3. I still have two more apps (Emory and Davis) which are both due in January. My Emory app is almost complete and I need to finish uploading everything for Davis. Did all of your apps have a December deadline?
  4. I'm sure they have them. I guess I'm glad the application status is available online. Otherwise, we would have no idea whether our items have been received. How are you managing to apply to so many different programs? Are you personalizing your whole statement for each program or only aspects? I just wonder how that works. Originally, I had many more schools on my list, but I had to pare it down based on finances and time. If I had thrown in a couple more, NYU, UC Boulder, U of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and U of Washington, Seattle would have also made my list.
  5. And so it begins...

  6. After checking my application status with Madison, I found out they did not have my GRE scores. I sent an email asking about it and the exchange went like this: Grad Coordinator: We do not have them. You may have to send them again. Me: (Thinking arrrgghhh!!! I don't want to spend more money on these scores. I used the correct institution code. What is going on?) I already paid $23 to have them sent and they did not arrive. Where exactly should I have them sent? Grad Coordinator: We have located your scores and added them to your file. Me: (Thinking - if I had not responded, I would have wasted money.) I'm also still waiting on a recommender to submit her recommendation, which is more anxiety ridden than I anticipated. Which Emory program are you applying to??
  7. I attended the NAME (National Association for Multicultural Education) Conference. It was my first time attending and I thought it was great! Bill Ayers was the keynote speaker. Congrats on getting everything in on time Well, I'm applying to the Language, Literacy, Society and Culture program and my concentration will be Language, Literacy, and Culture. So now we wait...
  8. My visit was wonderful! It was my first time in Chicago and the conference was located near the Magnificent Mile. I thought the architecture was lovely. I'm applying Language, Literacy and Culture, which is also Social and Cultural studies. Good luck to you!
  9. Well, you knew you should have retaken the GRE. Look at it this way -- now you'll have so much time to study and retake it!
  10. No worries. I'm sure he will have it done. I was still waiting on two LORs (for 2 separate schools) but one was submitted last night. The other professor told me on Tuesday that's she is almost finished and will get hers in. That deadline is 12/2. I don't doubt that she will, but the waiting is tough. Hang in there
  11. I was recently in Chicago at a conference! What Berkeley program are you applying to? Good luck also
  12. There are many different factors that come into play. Some private universities are considered very prestigious; however, there are some public universities that outweigh certain privates. It depends on which specific programs you're considering and what your objectives are when you're finished. Private does not always equate "better". It's subjective and should take multiple factors into consideration.
  13. Two applications submitted, and only two more to go! Ryanmor, I understand waiting on the recs. I'm in the same boat, but I'm trying to stay calm.
  14. Triple Rainbow
  15. Hi All, Let's start a thread about what Ed programs we're applying to for fall 2012. It's simple -- list your school choices, the program, and specialty area (which may be different depending on the program) Schools: Program: Specialty Area (if any): ------------------------- Schools: Berkeley, UW-Madison, Emory, UC Davis Program: PhD - Curriculum & Instruction Specialty Area (if any): Language, Literacy, & Culture / Multicultural Education / Literacy & History
  16. noodles, I appreciate your suggestion. This is excellent advice and I will use it!! I've actually been reworking my list of schools, highlighting places with "best match" programs that may place lower emphasis on GRE, or at least statistically admit applicants with lower GRE scores. I feel, I have many other areas that will strengthen my application and I will have solid recommendations from a few professors who I still collaborate with. So now, UW Madison, UT Austin, and UMASS Amherst are my top choices. Plus, I'll throw in a couple long shots just for fun
  17. Thanks! The ranks were low, 80th and 50th, so I may have to retake it I will have publications out when I apply, so hopefully this will help. I'm looking at Curriculum & Instruction programs specifically, focusing on either Language, Literacy & Culture, multicultural education, and/or urban education. I want to apply for 2012, but if I have to take the test over then I'll aim for 2013...
  18. Portland State University. Though, they offer an Ed.D as opposed to a Ph.D.
  19. Greetings, I hope everyone is well! I took the GRE a few years ago and my scores (550V & 600Q) were not the best. I'm planning on applying to doctoral programs to begin studies in fall 2012 or 2013, and my scores would still be within the 5 year period. I'm not the best standardized test-taker, plus I'm apprehensive because I would have to take the revised version of the exam. I wonder if my scores are too low to apply for a doctoral program. Additionally, I completed my MAT at Emory, with an overall 4.0 GPA, and I have been teaching for a couple of years. I have also started individual research, I collaborate with national education organizations (directly related to my future research area), and I have started writing for publication. Do any of you feel that these attributes would provide enough support, so that I could avoid retaking the test? Currently, I have a list of potential schools with the best match between the program/faculty and myself. It's lengthy because I still have not narrowed it down completely, but here it is: Emory University University of Texas, Austin University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana Stanford University UC Berkeley University of Pennsylvania NYU, Steinhardt Columbia, Teachers' College I look forward to any insight
