  1. I think it's about the same or maybe a bit lower. It was 30-something before as well.
  2. Blahhh Buffalo is no longer on the Criticism and Theory rankings... Anyway... Methodology from hell. I would like to debut my official 2014 "rankings." They are based on a survey of me. 1. Tie for all schools that accepted me 5. Tie for both of my waitlisted schools 7-125. All schools that I did not apply to 126. Tie for all schools that rejected me
  3. Congrats!!! Haha, right? I also love how "shocked" some folks are to be rejected from a school that rejects like 98% of applicants. Get over yourself.
  4. Congrats to Buffalo MA admits and waitlisters! Was this for English or American Studies?
  5. Congrats! This is seriously SO AMAZING. You guys both rock.
  6. How are those of you having a hard time making a decision dealing? I am visiting the school that I am most likely to attend, but another school is looking better every day... although it is ranked much lower, it has higher job placement rates and there are more opportunities to teach literature courses. Although I am still leaning toward the school I am visiting, and of course anything could happen during the visit, I wish I had the time/money to visit the other option. I'm wondering if I should just spring for the visit... I mean, I am deciding where I'll spend the next 4-6 years of my life.
  7. Wow! That's some serious fanfare! I can't wait to check it out! There website looks crazy amazing... they're trying to make a shopping list for me with the recipe for tasty foods.
  8. I'd be willing to read it over if you'd like. You can send me a PM.
  9. Haha, don't be. Is there at least a Whole Foods or a co-op? I've already checked that there is one near Buffalo (there's not; however, they're building one because I might be coming). I've also scoped out burrito availability and Indian food in the cities of my schools...
  10. My MA required a thesis, but I know that many do not, or they only require a very short one. A lot of people get the MA with teaching high school or some other goal in mind. For them, it may not be necessary to complete a thesis. I think that if you are planning on the PhD, you would want the experience of completing the thesis, if only as practice for the dissertation and to make sure that you have a strong PhD writing sample. However, I don't think it will have much of a direct effect on your PhD applications. An MA is an MA.
  11. Certainly! I finally got my rejection. Yay. NYU--you're next! Let's do this!
  12. I called it I guess! Congrats on the offer! I haven't heard anything, though. I marked that I wasn't interested in the MA, so regular rejections will probably go out separately... hopefully soon.
  13. First, congrats! I know that some members of the forum have attended and have have great experiences and eventually gotten into top PhDs. At the same time, it has a reputation as a bit of a cash cow program. Funding is scarce, and I believe even if you get it, it only lessens your tuition. I certainly can't imagine turning down Ohio State or CUNY for it. ETA: Did you get your rejection by post or e-mail?
  14. I just turned down an offer from Wayne State, but I think the program looks fantastic and generally underrated. I would have been happy to have attended if the season had gone differently for me. Maybe you could ask each program about job placement, if they haven't already provided that information online?
  15. I understand that both of these schools do consolation MAs, so they have extra decisions to make, but I feel like they've been assumed rejections for ions. I don't need another MA. Just reject us!
  16. I'm hoping that Fordham will notify this week. I also wish that Chicago and NYU would just hurry up and send rejections...
  17. I would certainly visit before you sign a lease on your living arrangements, but a visit to the program itself may not be as important.
  18. I'm sending you a PM.
  19. I think a wait list is good news... or at the very worst, it's a lack of bad news.
  20. Your humor is just so complex and nuanced that most of us can't comprehend it. Oh, the irony of you claiming the rest of us need self-awareness. Anyway, I do want to congratulate you on the news from Columbia, because hells yeah NYC. Buy CUNY is also a great choice. Even if you sometimes/often say things that make me roll my eyes, I do think you deserve it.
  21. Suddenly everything makes sense in sockpuppet-land. I do believe at least 5 accounts are all the same person...
  22. Congrats!!! Is this your first acceptance? Boulder is such a cool program and it's in such an awesome location.
  23. Congrats thestage and other recent acceptees!
  24. That depends a million or so factors, but I think CUNY looks like a fantastic program. You cannot beat the location, and if you're funded well enough, I can't imagine turning that down for the unknown experience of applying again.
