Alright. This really is the final goodbye. Just got back from visiting CU Boulder. Campus is awesome. Professors are on point as well.

5 years funded with a decent stipend from TAing. Super excited. Any future applicants considering CU, feel free to PM. I bet I'll keep lurking on this thing for a while!

Thanks again for all the guidance!

No way. Lots to learn in a town with the most powerful legislative body and executive in the world. No?

I appreciate the thought, but I see a lot of green in your signature   Lets not pretend we are all equally disappointed this cycle.

I've recently accepted that I'm likely to go to a second-tier school, so I'm all anti-ivory now

I recently switched to this thinking. I mean, UCSD has starting sending out rejections. I haven't gotten one of those (yet, knock on wood) and I'm certainly not assuming that means I'm in. So, if you haven't heard back, it means exactly that, you have no idea. Just because you were not part of the first blast does not change anything!

On a semi-related note, I also convinced myself I'm most qualified candidate in the history of the world (despite a few 'traditional' flaws like a terrible GPA and GRE scores...psh) so it would be totally their loss regardless.

    Good luck fellow holdouts.

I haven't gone back to find the original quote. I could, I guess.

He/she didn't criticize american foreign policy though. He/she said something along the lines of Americans don't understand foreign policy or something similar. I agree that my generalization of their comment pushed the conversation into a different direction that is more complicated.

That book looks fine. Doesn't seem super worth reading to me because it is so obvious to me that US foreign policy is not about helping people, not even americans, just a few very powerful people.

The war on terror has been an incredibly successful in helping american firms continue to develop technology that will help sustain the US's long-term geo-political position. Obviously, that isn't to say I support it.

I thought we were gonna drop it. This is as much as a "not a prick" tone as I can strike.

Sorry.  Was trying to get a model to converge.

When I was four years old, I watched my mother kill a spider with a teacosy. Years later, I realised it was not a spider---IT WAS MY UNCLE HAROLD.

Which ones? Certainly the biggest critics of US foreign policy are not pol sci profs. Chomsky, Scahill, Greenwall...

Oh and I am totally both those things.

Coolio. I'll bow out, but sorry, this is the US and I do have pride. If were applying to a school in another country I would not say negative things on a forum based in the country.

Oh and I've been traveling work for so away from this forum...just now getting caught up.

I got say, it always cracks me up to here foreigners that are applying to live in the US speaking trash about it. Don't get me wrong, I hate a lot of things about this country, but YOU clearly like our university system (and implicitly a lot of other things). I can criticize it better than most foreigners, I'm sure. But come on, you are applied to live here. Hope you all don't believe in karma.

And don't say things like "american foreign policy is terrible" or whatever around a bunch of Americans that are studying to be political scientist. You are really asking for it. what is terrible? compared to what? during what time period? aren' there many that are worse? who is better? and so on and so on and so on.

It is also important to note that immigration is the last pillar of globalization. financial flows and products pretty much flow freely, but people do not....yet. I imagine over the course of our careers it is an issue we will research at length (for IR peeps like me).

since i'm in the boat of having applied and not heard anything yet, i'll go ahead and say it. when acceptance get posted on this website is not a reflection of when they were sent out. it seems pretty clear to me that both UCLA and Berkeley did big blasts that probably covered all the admits.
