These are the ones I can most relate to. Especially #5 -- I had a huge mental hurdle to clear when it came time to ask my undergrad profs for LORs. I was terrified that they would tell me not to apply, that I'd never get a job, etc -- but they were all really supportive. I saved their emails for days when I'm feeling crappy. I also realized that -support is really important. Part of why I love the Grad Cafe. -there is always a typo. No matter how many times you proofread, there will be some kind of mistake, and it's not the end of the world. In that vein.... -you shouldn't look at SOPs once they've been submitted.

None of us can really tell you your chances -- so much is about the needs of the department, the applicant pool and your particular fit. Did you explain the withdrawals in your application? And more importantly: are you working to address the mental health issues? The waiting really, really sucks, but it's out of all of our hands now. I'm sure you will get in somewhere. Hang in there!

To the person who just put up the Berkeley admit -- will I be seeing you there in March? Edit: Also, an etiquette question: Is it appropriate to ask to Skype with a POI and ask questions about the program, or is that best left until admit weekends/visits?

Plan B: If I don't end up in grad school, I will move to Hollywood and write a script about a zombie admissions committee.

I have a friend just like this. It wouldn't irritate me so much if she hadn't been really unsupportive of me during my whole application process (telling me I'd never get a job, my field sounds boring, etc).

Continuing in this vein, there's a Fort Gay, WV. In fact, Xbox Live banned a user because they thought the kid was trolling when he listed that as his location. (Why they might find that offensive is another, less amusing issue....)
