Michigan Girl, what apartments do you recommend?
  2. I got in a couple weeks ago. I would assume you'll hear soon.
  3. I'm starting my MSW in the fall . I'm looking for an apartment this summer for fall, too. Only thing I could do since I'm in Florida (until next week!!).

I was thinking of living in SpiceTree, which is a little out of the way but on the busline. Anyone from the Ann Arbor area have any views on that?
  5. So, I just got back from Michigan (literally, just walked into the door of my house, and I'm exhausted, but wanted to remember to type this out). I absolutely fell in love yet again and can't wait to move there in two weeks. I had a chance to look at a few apartment buildings, and I think I've almost decided on Spice Tree for fall. It's only $550 a month for a one bedroom, and it's on the bus route, so I don't HAVE to drive to campus. It's further away from campus, closer to Ypsilanti, but it's also in a quieter place, and it allows pets, which makes me happy haha. Anyone moving up this summer or already living there? I'm subletting an apartment over off First Street until August, would love to meet ya all!
  6. I decided on the 16 mnth because I didn't want a break- I figured if I could go through and graduate earlier, the sooner I can start working. While having the summer off sounds awesome, it would just be spent trying to make money to pay for rent and stuff like that. It just seemed practical for me.
  7. Yeah, based on your FAFSA, they offer you a certain amount of loans. The most you can get is like $20,000 or something.
  8. Congratulations! Wait for the email from the Social Work department, as well as an email from Financial Aid. Financial Aid might have already figured out your loan information, and the numbers could be what they offered you based on your FAFSA. Have you received emails from either department?
  9. Definitely focus on the qualities about you that will help you be a better social worker. Schools want to admit students who are best suited for their programs. Life experiences, struggles, things you've overcome, diversity, adversity. These are all good things to talk about. But be honest, as well.
  10. Yeah! I'm happy to have been accepted to the others, but the financial aid offer, as well as the program at UMIch were better to me than the other two programs.
  11. Ohh, that's lucky! Yeah, I look every once in a while on Craigslist but once I'm there, I plan on visiting apartments and stuff. Ideally, I want to get a kitten, so animal friendly would be great for me, as well.
  12. I'm moving up in May (I subletted an apartment until September) and I'm going to look around while I'm there. When are you planning on moving?
  13. I don't think that it's because they don't care whether or not you enroll, but that there were probably over 1000 applicants, and sometimes they get backed up. I've worked in an admissions office before and realize it's VERY frustrating, but it's also really hard to control some things. They're probably working hard to get everyone the tools they need, even if it doesn't seem like it.
  14. I'm just wondering why the email is so important? You don't need the letter to accept or decline the offer?
  15. First: The Hunger Game books are phenomenal. Read them. You won't regret it. Second: I received $13,000k/semester and $20,500 in grants/loans. I didn't receive the grant/loan information until weeks after I received scholarship info.
  16. No offense, but i think that admissions person is full of crap. I'm a psych/crim major who got into two programs just fine. Plus, I've talked to MANY people who have said that it's not about what you majored in, but more of what you can overall bring to a program.
  17. Also, check under the financial aid award tab to see if they have already made a decision within the department for finaid.
  18. Financial aid will probably come within the next few days (mine took 4 days to get to me). My email acceptance came later that day after I figured out I was accepted via Wolverine Access. I haven't even heard ANYTHING from VCU, and as different schools take longer/shorter times, it's really frustrating sometimes. However, that's how it is for every program. Different deadlines means not knowing when you'll get a decision.
  19. I received an email about the scholarship info from the SSW which contained departmental scholarship/grant info. Financial aid from the school finaicial aid office didn't come for a couple weeks after, which contained my work study and loans. However, I received a huge scholarship from UMich so I had already decided to attend before I got my financial aid package from the school.
