  1. No I haven't yet. The application deadline was the 15th so I would assume that the adcoms are just now starting to look at apps and maybe by/throughout March decisions will be made.
  2. The UCI-UCSD program is worth looking into if this is what you want! I applied to Canada and intend to come back to America to work, didn't see a problem with it. I could be wrong.
  3. I applied to the UCI end! Congrats!!
  4. PREACH, no one understands if they're not going through it!
  5. Look into offerings from the Smithsonian and other huge institutions like it? Or archive work. Might have to get a shit job and intern for a bit, but it's experience.
  6. sitting with my guinea pig Igor, waiting for life decisions to be made by not me.

  7. I worked in a museum for a while and they were clamoring for history majors, does your historical period have a museum? lol, because you would definitely have a leg up on those applications. Also, the Smithsonian offers a ton of scholarships and centers for study, and jobs.
  8. I've seen them for journalism, but most undergrads are impacted that offer them so they're not too popular of programs. From my research, you're right, for social sciences and humanities options are limited. Psychology has a lot of back up options though, what's your brand of Social Science?
  9. Or racist ... haha but thank you for the much-needed optimism Justin! I've heard bad things about applying to grad at the same school you did undergrad. Heard any such rumors?
  10. I feel really stupid now because I've been studying with this prof (letter writer/on adcom for program I applied to at request of prof) and he's working with people around the country to start this new school of thought that I dig and makes sense to me, so much so that i've completely reoriented intellectually to accomodate. In my personal statements I used a term to describe this school of thought that's not too widely known and highly controversial, soooo....I'm pretty pessimistic about getting in. I feel like I sound pompous. -_____- So I imagine they'll be saying something like, "Who does this chick think she is saying post-structuralism needs to be qualified? And that an intervention is needed into the Hegelian Master-Slave dialectic?! She's vindictive and we hate her."
  11. Two schools, Western Ontario in Canada for an MA in Theory & Criticism. I don't have a particular interest in Drama/Theatre but my POI encouraged me to apply to the program he's on the adcom for lol, so I did. I am not hearing good things about UCI's drama program from hardcore drama students, but after thorough research I'm really jazzed about it, so interdisciplinary and flexible. Do you know anything about it's informal reputation? What are your interests/programs?
  12. I can't concentrate, and it's a roller coaster. Every conversation I have persuades me that "Duh, I'll be rejected I sound to pompous about a budding school of thought", then 10 minutes later "My goodness, sitting in this grad seminar with my POI is reassuring of my research interests and abilities, of course I'll get in!", 5 hours later I can be found crying on my apartment floor with 12 backup plans written on old term papers. Whoever invented this process is pure evil.
  13. Woahwoahwoah, where are you applying?! I'm applying to UC Irvine's Drama & Theatre program! We're severely underrepresented on here!
  14. I would agree to sit tight and don't contact, they all know we want in so I would think it looks like begging. haha
  15. I have the gears working on a Nurse-Midwifery backup plan, ready to be implemented in late March when/if news of rejection comes. If people are concerned about backup plans, check into accelerated bacc's, some feature masters as well. Most are in health-related fields, but it's a quick way to get something done.
  16. I would be in the Research department at a random University Advancement, I'm working there now as an assistant but I'd be pursuing a full-time position if grad school wasn't an option.
  17. lol, I love all the aggressive reading going on but if accepted into the PhD with funding I will probably sit and shake for a couple minutes in complete solitude with my computer and/or phone that I received the email on, then text my partner and mom, then sleep for 7 days straight since I can finally relax. Until 10 days later when I get the list of 150 books I need to know by the next summer, then a whole new level of worry takes over.
  18. I'm literally losing my mind thinking through this, and despite minimal superstition screaming at me not to: Rejected: UC Irvine Accepted: University of Western Ontario
  19. For radical politics, UC Irvine Critical Theory emphasis which links to all graduate programs. Specifically Dr. Frank Wilderson, Dr. Jared Sexton, and the rest of the AfAm department. That's where I am studying, unparalleled scholarship.
  20. This is horrible, but brilliant execution. I hope you had some happy news.
  21. I DO THIS, thank you for writing. I soooo do this, it's a curse.
  22. Yeah, UCI Drama accepts TWO people. It's insane, but if you are allowed in you know it will be a stellar experience and job prospects after will be better. It doesn't bode well for self-esteem during the application process, and there is no commiseration potential on a forum as such! Boooooo
