  5. I heard that GWU is great for international students, but I would check with someone who would know for sure -- perhaps ask an adviser?
  6. I haven't made a final decision, but I am pretty sure where I am going. The weird thing is, my dream program of several years has slowly not become my dream program these past several months. I got accepted there, and I was thrilled. However, the more I was doing research on my top two (I was lucky to be accepted to both), I realized my second choice was a much better fit for me in pretty much every way. I am trying to get over the fact that my dream school is not actually the best school for me. Has anyone ever dealt with this? I am both happy and sad about it.
  7. Personally, I would go to UCR. All there is to do is eat cheese and drink PBR in Pullman (or so was the impression I got from people who went there). If you like rural environments, you'll be fine... The location is not ideal, and you'll be fine either way. Also, I've lived in Washington for 14 years. I have never been to Pullman myself, but I hear a lot about it.

  10. While rank does matter, the second school has great connections because those advisers are well known. IMO, you can't go wrong either way. However, in this situation, I would go with the T25 because the advisers are well known and sound like they've been in the field longer, so they could do wonders for your own research; they will also have connections that will prove beneficial to you later. Of course, it is up to you and what you think is most important.
  11. I would personally go with the better research fit, especially if the advisers are well-known in your field. However, rank isn't nearly as important to me, so I might be the wrong person to ask.

  15. I also know nothing about studying art. However... there are so many art museums in NYC that I feel like NYU might be the most ideal university. However, I also know nothing about NC or Michigan. Also, the program in NYU is shorter, so I can't imagine the cost would be very different from CMU if CMU is 2 years.

  18. I think location totally matters. If I hate where I live, I won't be happy. That said, I do think research fit and CV building opportunities are the most important factors, and one should be flexible on location. However, if there was a great program in Alaska, I still probably wouldn't apply there -- the Alaskan climate doesn't appeal to me and I wouldn't enjoy living there (visiting is another story). So location should be a factor in decision-making -- you'll have to live there for several years!
  19. I feel the same way. However, since I can't have my own cats, I'm REALLY hoping to find a roommate that has one (this would not be a deciding factor, but it would help). Also, the only way I could afford to live alone is through on-campus housing (my university offers studio apartments that are cheaper than studio apartments in the surrounding area). I would love to live alone, but I also do not want to live on campus. I'm so nervous about finding a roommate randomly! The first, and only, time I did this wasn't spectacular....
