It's not unusual for schools to send acceptances at different times (from what I gather). I would personally wait a week or two before sending an email.

Do MA applicants typically hear back after PhD applicants? That's totally unfair...

Assuming tickets are still on sale, I would like to see the Ting Tings performing in Seattle. Also, I'm waiting to see where I'll be relocating before buying a fancy new messenger bag. Will I need something waterproof or can I get leather? Those are questions I need answering.... I would like leather, but I'll probably get something weatherproof/waterproof.

As the title says. Mine are as follows: George Washington University University of Victoria (Canada) University of Nevada Las Vegas All three of these schools have professors that have done research in the sex industry (and who have similar stances on it as me). How about you all?

This makes me nervous -- I haven't gotten anything from them yet. :/ Congrats and good luck to you all though.

what an easy University to get admission MA/Msc Sociology

You should take the GRE anyway. Most MA programs I applied to required it. It's better to be safe than sorry. CUNY-Queens seems fairly easy to get into. I applied there as well. You can also check out Fordham University. -
You will all love UW! I never went there for school (I did sit in on a couple of classes), and I live in Seattle, so I'm on their campus all the time. It's absolutely gorgeous. If you visit in the spring, you'll love the cherry blossoms. Seattle is probably one of my favorite cities ever, but I am biased.

To be honest, I definitely do not have the grades to get into Oxford, Cambridge, or any USA equivalent. I actually would love to stay in Europe after my PhD to teach if I can, but my family is convinced I'll want to move back to the States after a stint in Europe, so I kind of want to keep options open here. Part of the reason I want to get my PhD abroad is because my research interest is rather specific, and there aren't a lot of professors I could work with in the US. Do I do what's best for my research and hope it pays off or stay here? Also, I want to thank you all for giving me all of this information and insight.

Thanks for your perspective! I've had a couple of people tell me that going abroad could hurt my chances of becoming a professor, but they never explains how or why. Now I understand.

Thanks! They were wondering why they hadn't received my transcript yet. I had to explain that my university doesn't send transcripts electronically, and that I had to mail them a physical copy of my transcript.

They emailed me first.

CUNY-Queens emailed me to say that they liked my application, and they are looking forward to reviewing the rest of the documents that I have sent them. Does this mean I can possibly looking forward to an acceptance letter from CUNY? It's not my top choice, but I would be happy to go there if I don't get into my top 3 choices. I wanted to see what you all think.

I definitely have, and it's been really beneficial. For instance, UVic just received funding to conduct research on on the sex industry. The funding will last five years, and I wouldn't have known this if I hadn't contacted people in the department. I have done research on the sex industry during my undergrad and hope to continue to do so in graduate school. I've emailed two professors in that program, one of which seemed excited at the prospect of working with me; he seemed to really like my research (I sent him a copy of my thesis); the other also seems interested in having me be part of their program. I wonder, though, are professors often like this when potential students email them, or is it genuine when they express interest in your work (and sometimes ask to see your research)?

I am a US student looking to go to graduate school abroad. I have been told by some people that having a non-US degree will hurt my chances of becoming a professor in the US. However, many US universities that I have looked at have professors with non-US degrees. Would having a foreign degree necessarily hurt my chances? This is assuming that I will have stellar research experience, publications, etc by the time I receive my PhD. I am mostly looking at universities in the UK and Canada.

This wait feels incredibly long. I have never known time to pass so slowly.

If you weren't doing what you are doing, what would you be doing?

If I wasn't pursuing sociology, then I think I would have liked to pursue filmmaking. I would still make films related to my research interests or make subtle political statements. It's kind of my back up plan -- if I can't get into academia, then I'll go the art route. -
I think I'll get at least 2/8. Hopefully, one of those schools will be in my top 3, but I'll be pretty happy at any of the schools I applied to.

One of the schools I applied to (UNLV) sent an email out late December that they were reviewing applications, which led me to believe that they were going to send acceptances/rejections soon. They haven't yet. Is this normal?

How does Reno compare to most cities?

Can anyone tell me what the music scene is like in Victoria? I really love going to shows, and I would hate to give that up if accepted to UVic.
