I can also confirm a rejection from Northwestern -- though they did not email us to check the website... you had to stumble on it on your own accord.

If they've already made you an offer, I wouldn't worry about it. CU was an extreme situation, and they suspended admissions... even if NU went down this path, it would affect next year's cycle.

I mentioned the chair because we already have an email thread going. It's a good suggestion to go through the website.... I don't want to indicate that I'm concerned or imply there may be a problem with their climate.

I'll be the first to bite on this new thread, but in a general way. Basically I'm wondering how I can assess the climate for women at any one department. Is there a unified source somewhere? In particular, my only accept right now is at Rochester, and it looks like they only have two female grad students (out of 20). I'm wondering if the best way to assess the situation is to ask for the contact information of one of them? Do you think it would be seen as an odd request of the chair to specifically have the info of a female student? I'm worried about... well, all the usual worries. Any advice on this would be appreciated!

You know, I wish 1) there was a common app, and 2) a ranking system where we could list which schools were our top interests. I feel like this is kind of a free-for-all when it could be more strategic. But seriously, think about all the hours you spent filling out the same info for 15 different applications.
