  1. I actually did the interview last night and they guy told me they did not make any selections yet. They are just narrowing down their candidates and they should know within the next two weeks. They are apparently on their own schedule. I think it went well *crossses fingers*
  2. Just this morning while I was at work, I was called by one of the schools I had not heard back from yet about scheduling an interview. They left a message on my voicemail. I called back and said yes, I will still interested and would like to set up an interview. Being my analytical self, I am debating what exactly this means. Being that is just about May and most people have already found out accepted or rejected it seems strange to just now ask for an interview. My theory is that they may have extended some offers that not everybody accepted and they have open spots they need to fill and they are contacting people off the waitlist to see who would be best to fill them. Just a guess. Other theories would be greatly appreciated! I can't wait until the wait is over!
  3. I get this all the time from people in regards to having an MBA. "You have an MBA, you should have some fancy Wall Street job, no problem." That is not how it works. I often tell people "you know who hired a lot of smart MBA students straight out of graduate school? Enron. You see where that got them. Do you think corporations are going to jump on hiring somebody fresh out of graduate school?" In response I get *blank stare*. With increase in people going to college and the decrease in jobs on the market it is competitive for everybody. Nothing is a guarantee.
  4. I applied to UT at Arlington and still haven't heard either. I had e-mailed them a little while back and said they normally make their decisions are this time. It seems like they are slow in Texas.
  5. You may want to contact the school in which you would be interested in transferring your credits to and see if they accept any transfer of credits. I successfully transfered one MBA class from my undergrad institute to where I did my MBA. However, a lot of schools do not accept transfer credits because it is such a short program.
  6. 0% so far. Still waiting on 2 of the 3 schools I applied to. I feel like the time I do find out about whether I got in or not I will have forgotten I applied.

  8. While I am here, let me ask this... if you are applying for organizational behavior, did you take the GMAT or the GRE? As a concentration it is a cross between business and the social sciences. I have a business background and took the GMAT. Does it matter either way?
  9. I still haven't heard from two schools. One of the school's website tells me that they will notify all candidates before May 30th. That is a long time away.
  10. I personally think doing another undergraduate degree is a waste of time. The original design of MBA programs was for students who do not have a background in business as an undergraduate. It was for professionals in any field who wanted to be better at what they do from the business side. I think you can easily transition into doing an MBA program with just having a undergraduate business minor. When I was in my MBA program we definitely had a mix of people who had business degrees and who did not.
  11. Most universities offer assistantships. You work at the university and get your tuition covered and a montly stipend to live off of. Every school has different programs. It would be best to look at the websites of the programs you are interested in and see what you can apply for. You normally fill out the application for an assistantship with your college application and have to interview for the position (similar to a job interview). There are plenty of opportunities out there.
  12. This sounds promising but no guarantees. However, I had received an e-mail from a university asking me if I was "still interested" because I was one the candidates they were interested in. I replied that yes, I was still interested. Then I was rejected a few weeks later. I hope it turns out better for you.
  13. Randome Guy: How is that goal of earning a PHD going? Me: I am not sure yet, I haven't got into any schools yet. Random Guy: They are making schools more difficult to get into now. But you seem intelligent. Me: So what is it that you know about business PHD programs that you think you can speak on them? Random Guy: From experience, not much at all. But this person at University X that I know does. And a friend of mine is a real estate agent and we are always talking about business and schools. Me: University X doesn't even have a business PHD program and real estate is just... completely irrelevant. My goodness.
  14. I think mine is semi-self explanatory. Imonedaful= I'm wonderful. One of my track coaches I had in high school's e-mail address was too1daful... or something to that extent so I stole the concept. It is a confidence booster

  16. I got replies back from my two school. One was very vague and told me I should hear within the next few weeks (that could be awhile). The other said somebody else at such-and-such department has my application and they do not know when they will make their final decision. He also went on to tell me that he believes my test scores, although meet their admission standards are low and may be an issue in my acceptance. This does not sound very promising.
  17. Woah, $80,000? Don't do that. Follow the money. They want you more.
  18. Ultimately, you should do what YOU WANT to do. If you got into a school you feel is the best fit for you and you have to move far away then do it. If the relationship was meant to last, you will figure that part out. If you ulimately did not want to go there, you would not have applied. The opportunity might not come around again. If you are in a relationship where you love eachother then that can be molded around accomplishing your dreams.
  19. I definitely second this. A lot people get married. It is fairly easy to get somebody to sign a marriage license for you. The act itself is not an accomplishment. Not many people go to graduate school at NYU. Not many people accomplish something they consider to be their ultimate dream. An accomplishment is something you can look back upon with pride; and you will forever do that once completing graduate school. You cannot always say the same thing about marriage, unfortunately. You should not even be worried about this right now, because once you are living in New York City with the plethora of single men available to you, you will be very happy you are not married . The average age someone gets married in the U.S. now is 25-26 years old and is slowly increasing, you are not even there yet. Nobody in family got married before the age of 30. You have a lot more things you are going to do before you move onto that phase of your life. Savor it and don't waste your time worrying about what someone else is doing. Furthermore, it is proven that people who wait to have children after the age of 30 have smarter kids because they are generally better educated and provided for. (I used to teach sociology, I had to know all this stuff). It is natural to be a little envious of others' perceived happiness but do not let it get in the way of making yourself the best possible you. If you use all your engery working on yourself, you won't have time to worry about what other people are doing.
  20. Follow the money! Not only will it help you financially but you will be going to a school that genuinely wants you. Generally at any school where you are given funding it opens the door to a lot of other opportunities. I am not in the engineering field myself but I do know engineers that have came out of University of Florida and done well. It sounds like a good deal to me, and the weather down here is fantastic.
  21. A police came through my apartment complex one time and I happen to be just walking down the sidewalk and he motioned to me. I looked around, knowing I wasn't doing anything wrong walking to my mailbox at my own apartment complex. He asked me how old I was so he could make sure I wasn't a high school kid skipping school. I had to refrain from telling him that I most likely had more degrees than he did.

  23. That money will go farther in Pullman, Washington than in California. You mention that the school itself is a better fit for you as far as research opportunities but keep coming back to personal issues with moving. If you really want to go to WSU and think you will be happier you should go for it. All the personal factors like your relationship and seeing your family will fall into place. Plus, if you move away you will find out who actually cares. However, the weather does kind of suck in Pullman being real hot in summer and real cold in the winter.
  24. I am seconding the two posters above me. Clemson seems like a better option for you than Iowa State. It is a small town, but at least it is adjacent to cities. I did my masters at a school in Alabama which was in the middle of nowhere but it was just 1 1/2 hours from Atlanta, which can be a refreshing getaway. Iowa State is... adjacent to cornfields... haha. There is better weather in South Carolina. Iowa will get very cold in the winter.
  25. Well, Cornell is the more prestigous university (although not particulary known for its engineering program). UCLA has a lot of strong points but is in an incredibly expensive area to live. If it was me, I would definitely pick Georgia Tech. GA Tech has an awesome engineering program, Atlanta is a nice place to live and fairly affordable, and the being in the Southeast will land you some good prospects. Although I am not an engineering major, I went to a school with a lot of engineering students for undergrad and it seems like the students I know with Electrical Engineering degrees have done very well. The need for electrical engineers seem to be growing at a faster rate than industrial engineers (in the U.S. anyway). Hope that helps a little.
