  1. I don't know if this will help, but I found the UT thread from last year really informative. You can get a view of when people were notified about waitlists and the final round of rejections. There were a lot of cool people who got off of the waitlist there last year, so if you get on it don't give up hope!
  2. No, a lot of schools actually send snail mail still. I guess they emailed their acceptances though, but I couldn't be certain. Also, they very rarely will tell you anything. I only got info out of a few programs last year, and most of them wouldn't give me my status. They'd only say that the first round of acceptances had already gone out.
  3. To be fair, they may still be planning to give you official letters, you just might not get them for awhile. Last year, I applied to about ten schools, and at least 4 of them didn't send me my rejection until a month after acceptances had gone out. My favorite one was Penn State; my rejection letter didn't even arrive until after April 15. Good times. . Edit: I am by no means saying that it's ok; I actually think it's really rude. Unfortunately, it happens.
  4. Yeah, that was last year. That was basically my pep talk story to myself while I was waiting to hear. I"m still kind of amazed!
  5. I really thought Michigan would have come out by now, too. End of the week, maybe?
  6. Just so you know, it's unlikely that you've been wait listed for the MA program because that's been almost totally suspended with the exception of inside admits. So you're almost definitely waitlisted for the PhD program. As for why she said many would have to turn them down, that might have been a clue to your position on the waitlist. It's not over till it's over!
  7. Oh my god, I love this. "She is going to be a black diva just like this drag queen over here." (slightly paraphrased, of course) I am also, unfortunately, out of upvotes.
  8. Yes, please PM that to me; I'd really appreciate it! I wish there was (or maybe there is?) a program that works on getting kids who aren't babies adopted; I just think it's so ridiculous the way that people are desperate to have children, but what they really want is a little tabula rasa that they can make cooing noises at while so many older kids are basically ignored all across the country.
  9. Oh my god, I'd be losing my damn mind! I hope it turns out amazing for you. You have to let us know as soon as you find out!
  10. Wow, that sounds amazing; I've always wanted to get involved with improving the foster care system and the ability of older kids to actually get into college. Do you know of any organizations that operate on a national level?
  11. Hey, I'm with you there. I figured, I don't care if I get in because I'm black; I just want to get in!
  12. Dude, World Cup in Brazil!
  13. Yeah, I do remember! Everyone from last year seemed like such awesome people, and I got really good advice from at least two of them. I can't wait to meet them, and also my own cohort-mates! I haven't officially accepted yet, seeing as how I haven't even heard from at least 8 schools, but at this point I can't think of anything that would stop me from doing so.
  14. Yeah, same here. Holy wow! Then again, I am not ashamed to say that I can easily marathon Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. That shit is hilarious.
  15. Dude, you give me the most intense cognitive dissonance. It's like, Nelson Mandela using GIFs? What the ever-loving hell?
  16. Ha, thanks! I think. Have you heard anything new yet?
  17. Yeah, it is. Seriously, I've been fantasizing about getting in there for MONTHS; it got to the point where I had to start mentally preparing myself for possible rejection, because I was super attached. I thought I was a great fit, but I didn't think I had a chance with my record. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that now
  18. Right? The first time I read that last year, I just sighed from happiness, longing, and expectation. And now, it's going to be a reality.
  19. Thanks. I can't believe you still haven't heard anything. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for so many people on here right now!
  20. It was personalized as far as actually having my name on it, but I think the body of the email was probably standardized.
  21. Ha, you're totally right! I will go do that now.
  22. Thanks! My subfield is Transatlantic 19th Century female writers and Queer Theory, although for the dropdown menu on the Texas app I put Women, Gender, and Sexuality.
  23. Holy moly guys, my dreams just came true. I'm in at UT Austin!
  24. God, I wish I knew; UT is my high anxiety application. Any insiders around that care to ease our pain?
  25. I thought I was the only person who read in the shower! Nice. I actually perfected my method around 13; the pages still got crinkly, but they didn't get soaked by the spray anymore.
