Hello Ballerina18, I think you will definitely make your dream come true! I had a question about the part where you said ISU only offers 8 seats to out of state students. Where did you hear this from? thanks! -
SLP GRAD SCHOOL HOPES~DREAMS~GUESSES THREAD

Haha it's funny what his guess was. Just like he wants to leave San Jose, my wife and I want to get out of L.A. and we'd kinda dread ultimately getting accepted to my undergrad program(CSUN) for that reason. -
I received my first rejection today! It was actually at the school that was the most competitive of all the schools I applied to and it was more my wife's dream school/location. I know it's a rejection, but it was still exciting to be able to cross one off the list! Applying to 15, I wouldn't want to have to decide between more than a few!

SLP GRAD SCHOOL HOPES~DREAMS~GUESSES THREAD
twinguy7 replied to twinguy7's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I will start by posting what my hopes, dreams and guess is with the schools I apply to. Dream to get an acceptance from @ least one school! I HOPE to get acceptances from Fort Hays, Idaho State. Realistically I Guess I would be happy to end up getting waitlisted at a few schools and one acceptance ultimately. -
Me and my wife constantly have this discussion and I thought it would be a discussion topic worthy of starting a thread about. Well me and my wife always talk about which school(s) I will have the highest possibility of getting into, which school we most want to get into and which school we would most likely accept if we didn't get into our top choices. so this thread is about YOUR HOPES DREAMS & GUESSES pertaining to the schools you applied to.

I have also heard that all those rankings are made up of how many research articles each schools program has produced. So the rankings are not the best source for finding a good program. All programs teach the same materials/courses so it comes down to what you get out of them and how small the classes are and how dedicated the faculty is to each individual.

Rejection - even before they accept others?

It looks like there are acceptances at Amherst on the results page now. So don't feel too bad. Like others have said, the school that fits you best will be the one who values all that your application packet has to offer(AKa all you have to offer). Good luck on your interviews! -
@ amesoooo , I agree with the other posters. Maybe a post bad to help and it is SOOO important to email schools and see which schools are a fit for you and which schools take chances on people with lower GPA's. Thats what I did starting last may! You will show your desire and you can build up relationships with the faculty at these schools and they will remember your name when apps come in. Your last 60 does show an upward trend so that's good also!

What is your GPA @ Asemoooooo? @ daisynic Agreed! IT takes a lot of dedication and studying to get good grades! I see that in my wife. She's a 4.0 student even in her 2nd bachelors I nursing program! Her example has helped me increase my GPA my last 2 years of undergrad. I also agree that interpersonal communication skills are vital to the profession and unfortunately cannot be measured by a test or gpa's.
-
Hello @daisynic..... not that it's a good thing for either of us, but it's nice to see someone with an undergrad GPA closer to my horrible 2.77. I think the committees at the schools you are applying to will see your improvement with that 4.0 in recent classes and value your teaching experience. It's good that you applied to many schools also and to less competitive programs. Your GRE's are really good too. I emailed over 100 schools last May and through communication with them narrowed my schools to the 15 I applied to. I'm sure you will get into a school this year!

Arcanelady27- what types of questions did you get? And yes, I agree... It depends on the school as to what they will ask, etc. I have friends who have gone to "on campus" interviews any they seem to always have questions on undergrad material at the on campus interviews. But I would love to hear what type of questions you were asked pertaining to undergrad. That would help a lot!
-
I was always under the assumption that interviews were more to get a feel for the person and their interpersonal communicational skills as opposed to questions about material learned in undergrad, but like I said, just an assumption! I have an interview over the phone with Fort Hays State TOMORROW. The guy who will be interviewing me has also helped me a lot during the past 9 months to gain a perspective about how he and others in his committee view applicants. If there is anything I've learned form him its to be real. They wanna see you as a person, not you as a SLP robot who tries to tie everything into speech somehow. So I guess take that for what it is worth! By the way, the guy is an ASHA "fellow" and travels to evaluate other programs often.
-
Wow, I am surprised you did not get in anywhere last year! I am in your same boat, but my grades and GRE's are even lower than yours! So this past year I have been working as an SLP with a credential waiver and have 30 students on my caseload! Hope we both find the right fit in a school we applied to! Good luck!

UoP is about $66k for the 15month program. The enticement is that you will be working 9 months earlier than the traditional 2 year program SLP's. So I guess you could make $30k in that 9 month period going off the $44k salary.

I did my undergrad at Cal State Northridge and we suprisingly had about 6-8 guys in the undergrad program. I think one of my classes had 4 of us in the same class which was big! lol OTher classes I'd be the only one or 2 in the class.
