SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship/CGS Doctoral Scholarship 2016-2017
psychstudent316 replied to rugox's topic in The Bank
I honestly think the biggest piece is conference presentations and publications. I was rejected last year but in the meantime had 1 additional conference presentation and 1 additional publication. -

Yes, I would simply tell them that you won the award and are wondering if there is a chance that they will reconsider your application. I have heard of cases where this has worked out! Not much else you can say.... they'll either have a spot for you or they won't. You never know, so I would definitely reach out if I were you! -

I can't speak to what would happen if you called them as I don't think the receptionist would divulge the information. Emailing the awards officer directly might be the better route. -

Hey everyone, I've been following this thread and emailed the senior awards officer at U of T inquiring about the results yesterday. She wrote me back an hour later and told me I was awarded the 3 year CGS-D. Before this, I had emailed my graduate unit and asked about notifications. He told me that the results just came in and that students would be notified "very soon". If you're eager to find out the result at U of T you might very well get a response on Monday from the awards officer at SGS. Otherwise it sounds like SGS will be emailing students either on Monday or Tuesday, hopefully before the official letters reach us. Hang in there! -
Nice! Not sure how they compare aside from Ryerson being more CBT focused and OISE integrative. Also have heard Ryerson is a more research-heavy focused program while OISE is less so.
-
I think this differs year to year. Some years more applicants competing for spots in the program than other years. Good luck!

Hey, I emailed my POI two months ago (end of January) and she had already sent out an offer to someone. That's all I know!
-
Good luck! The M.Ed is a great program... lots of my friends from the program have jobs in the field now. There is also the EDD option following the M.Ed, which can be equivalent to the Phd for those in the M.Ed stream who want to pursue a doctorate after.
-
Agreed!
-
Not sure about the M.Ed at OISE. I just finished that program actually! When I was applying to it two years ago, I called the Registrar's office weekly. They were able to update me on the status of my application. Seems OISE will not update application status online (mine is still 'under review' from two years ago).

Yes, I have been accepted to the MA in Clinical & Counselling psych at OISE. Received a letter last week in the mail. Let me know if you have any questions about the process!

Canadian Universities - OISE Applicants

Since OISE is part of the University of Toronto.......prestige is an answer to your question. -
Yeah after a quick Google search I figured it out! Looks like it's in NY.

The St. John's interviews... PsyD in nfld?
-
Could depend on the prof or it's changed completely this year. Girl I know last year who got in had an informal interview, didn't have even the appropriate undergrad thesis but still got in probably because she's brilliant and connected well with the prof.
-
A friend of mine got into the clinical child program at OISE last year and had what sounded like a relatively informal interview at OISE. I think it's more just a check done by profs to make sure you're not a robot.
-
Aw... so frustrating. We put so much time into our applications (plus the cost!), you'd think profs could let you know sooner that they're not accepting a new student. Or at least have who is/isn't accepting on the website and maintain it. As some schools do, but was more the minority.
-
Probably means you have made the department shortlist but perhaps didn't rank high enough on your POI's shortlist to get an interview. Yet.
-
I've been reading this thread for awhile. This process can feel discouraging, some days more than others. Keep your head up - even if you don't get in to any schools this year you are on the right path and something will come your way. Might just mean trying again next year with an even stronger CV. We are unstoppable!

I applied! From what I have heard Waterloo is as competitive as Toronto schools. They seem to place a high value on GRE scores. Have not received any emails from them yet. I'm sorry to hear about your rejection - I'm sure mine is coming soon as well although one never knows.

I got an email for an interview last year about 5 days after the rejection letter arrived in my mailbox. Admission criteria is very high for the MA Counselling program at OISE. This year (for fall 2013-2014), they had 4 spots and compeition was more fierce than it was last year. Many applicants had A+ averages and some were even professors. I would recommend applying to the MEd as well as the MA if you're not set on doing a PhD. With an MEd in Counselling from OISE, you have a practicum placement in your 2nd year and even take more courses than the MA students (fun!). You don't write a thesis. You are able to open a private practice with an MEd degree. Bonus! MEd accepted about 30 students last year and they are a great bunch. All very diverse. Good luck getting off the waitlist!

I have been following this thread and holding my breath along with everyone. I was accepted into the MA program two weeks ago after being officially rejected. When I received news of my rejection (first from calling the registrar and then officially in the mail a few days later) I felt very disappointed and began to think about my alternative plan, which was to work for another year, gain experience in the field and reapply next year. A few days after I found out I was rejected, I was contacted by email for an in-person interview with a potential supervisor (one whom I hadn't even expressed interest in working with in my statement of intent), and then three weeks after that I received an acceptance package in the mail. This all happened late-April and into mid-May. So really... anything is possible! And it made for a wonderful birthday present.
