Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
Seatbelt Blue replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
Probably my GREs. Unfortunately, they have yet to see my undergrad transcripts beyond a single semester of seminary after I graduated.... I was an *awful* student in undergrad. Obviously it's not impossible for BC to accept me -- Seton Hall already has -- but I just reviewed my undergrad transcripts and it was a.....sobering experience, to say the least. I pulled myself up from my bootstraps, pulled mostly B's for my last three or four semesters, and got a 4.0 in seminary, and my GREs are spectacular -- 170/170 on verbal, 5.5 analytic writing. But I am profoundly worried about how negatively they'll look on my stupid 20-year-old self. -

Boston College just informed me I'm going to need to do a Skype interview. As their website says an interview isn't always required, I've been told to read this as me doing very well. Any thoughts? -
Well, let's hope. I should be taking this as a good sign regarding my admission, then? The admissions board hasn't actually met, I'm told, and they're scheduling these interviews for just a few days beforehand.

I just received word from the admissions advisor that BC wants to do a Skype interview with me. The program's website says a personal interview may be requested, not that one is required. Is this a good or a bad thing?

I already got into my fallback school -- Seton Hall -- but man, I am so iffy on Fordham, although I'm weirdly optimistic about Boston College -
BC just emailed me saying they were missing one of mine! I had it sent in last week. It should have arrived by now. >_<

My fiancee and I will be marrying right around the time I start graduate school, and depending on where I get in, we'll be moving out of state at the same time. We're both really harried over the financial stresses of all of this, but I'm not especially worried about it taking a huge toll on our relationship. But then, my out of state school is still close enough to NYC that she can get to her auditions, and we've got an agreement that, after my masters, we'll start focusing on *her* career for a while before I pursue any further degrees.

The suspense over my responses is absolutely killing me.

Hey, congratulations! What's your first choice? -
I'll be going to BC, Fordham, or Seton Hall come the fall, and I'm wondering what exactly to expect going in, I'd like to be a publishing, researching theologian-professor in the end, so I'm curious whether a graduate program in theology is primarily classes, if there are opportunities for real research and academic writing, etc. I've obviously already looked at the programs I've applied to, and I do understand there are lots and lots of classes, but I guess what I'm wondering is, other than laser-like focus, how is a grad program in the humanities substantively different than undergrad?

I'm a 28 year-old incoming grad student who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, what would have been Asperger's under the DSM-IV, a few months back. I'm curious as to how any other autistic/aspie grad students have coped with the workload. I'm pretty confident in my ability to handle it, because I tend to get really weirdly focused in areas that interest me, and my graduate field of study certainly interests me, but I'm really wondering if anyone out there found unexpected areas of difficulty or good coping mechanisms for this whole graduate school experience.

Once I get my studies started, I hope to focus in ecumenical ecclesiology with a focus on Oriental Orthodoxy and Eastern Christianity more generally. -

I was thinking very seriously about it, but honestly I didn't feel like chasing down my recommenders again. One of them is in bleeding Italy. -

Finally got the last piece of my Boston College application in. So now, I'm waiting for responses from Fordham and BC; I'm consciously optimistic about Boston, whereas I'll be fairly surprised if I get into Fordham. I'm not sure why. -
I'm an American incoming masters student trying to chart a rough path ahead. My fiancee and I will need to move to Germany after I finish my degree for her career, and so if I'm interested in pursuing a doctorate (theology is my field), I'm almost certainly looking at German schools to do so. Does anybody have any advice on where to look, what I'll need to have accomplished, etc, before pursuing this?

No, everything has been going really smoothly, and what issues I have had I've hammered out very quickly with the admissions staff. I've been in regular contact with the admissions office regarding my application; I don't know if you have, but I've found them to be of immense help. Have you been in touch with them? -
Anybody know when Fordham starts notifying people?
