  1. Well, count me in on the waiting process. I wouldn't trust much on the deadlines or historical notifications. GPPI sent me a notification about two weeks ago, and historically they had notified by mid march according to Results Search.
  2. Looks like it depends on the program. For example, at SIPA they assure they entirely read every single completed application.
  3. Great news Dinosaur, good luck with everything else.
  4. Your GRE may be useful or not, depending on the rest of your profile. If the rest of your qualifications are good enough (specially Work Experience and GPA), then you have a fair shot at those schools. What I mean to say is that even if your scores are not stellar, they won't automatically disqualify you from consideration at top schools.
  5. Yes. Learn them up to the point that they are basically automatic to you.
  6. I'd just show this link to anyone who tries to disregard HKS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Kennedy_School_of_Government#HKS_degree_program_alumni
  7. Still shows as In Review to me. Maybe this guy missed a document or something, and he got an early rejection. Needless to say that this post gave me a mini-heart attack.
  8. Done with mine, 430 words. I'll just proofread it for the rest of the day and send it tomorrow morning
  9. I won't lie. I'm having a small episode of writer's block regarding this statement. I feel like I already addressed my fitness to the program in the SOP. I don't want to be perceived as redundant, but at the same time the strongest arguments were already laid out there.
  10. I would say the second one is better, but yes, send both.
  11. Hey dalu, do you have to send the scholarship essay by 2:00pm on Wednesday? If that's the case, it wouldn't seem logical that some people get notified before others and still receive the notification for the essay due Wednesday. Also, it wouldn't make much sense that they adapt the due date depending on when the email is sent. Maybe this first wave they sent was for people who will compete for a scholarship, and they'll send the other ones later. I don't know, I'm just speculating.
  12. To keep you updated, I just received an email asking for a short statement for scholarship consideration.
  13. They didn't ask me for any supplemental essays. Don't lose hope.
  14. I submitted (with everything ready) on December 22nd, and was notified today of my acceptance. I was really surprised and not expecting it, as last year's notifications were sent in march according to the database. I would bet they send notifications in waves, so no reason to worry yet.
  15. OMG First acceptance !!!!! I feel like a building has been taken off my shoulders. Can't believe how excited I am.
  16. Well, I was just notified from the Fellowship I was participating in. Out of over 250 candidates I was in the final 7, of which 3 were selected and 4 of us were left out. Now I'm competing for merit-based scholarships, where based on principle I should be in good shape (I guess). It is a bittersweet feeling. Even though I didn't get into the podium, I feel a little comfort in the fact that I'm a competitive candidate. Just wanted to share that thought with you guys.
  17. I sent an email to SIPA (MPA) because as a product of a small detail, my application shows as incomplete on the status website. As soon as they read my explanation, it should be completed. The problem is that I sent the email more than two weeks ago, and I haven't even received an automatic confirmation email or anything. Has anyone around here had the same problem? Have you received responses to the emails you have sent? Do you think two weeks is an appropriate amount of time to resend the email? Thank you for any insights.
  18. Have a cup of water nearby during the interview. You don't want to be left with your mouth dry after talking too much and not being able to properly vocalize the answers.
  19. Sure blackfish, I have 4 years of very relevant WE, 164Q/160V on the GRE and 111 on TOEFL. My scores are not stellar, but I think I may stand a chance. I also believe my statement is very good and my LoRs are probably the strongest part of my application (a Nobel Peace Prize ex-HKS lecturer included). The huge problem (and what I think may exclude me from consideration) is my 3.4 GPA.
  20. MPP, of which it is of my knowledge that the rate it a little over 20%. For MPA I've heard it's higher, but nothing official.
  21. OMG I just received an e-mail as a semi-finalist for a fellowship ! It probably doesn't mean a lot, but it's definitely the breath of fresh air I needed.
  22. Thank you ! Cassava is mostly because it is the most cultivated product in that region, and it already has a consolidated export industry
  23. I'd finish the MBA and open a restaurant using my savings for grad school. I would keep my current job in order to not depend on the restaurant, and be able to make it financially sustainable in 2-3 years. The other plan is to buy a small piece of land in one of the rural areas of my country, dedicate myself to cultivating cassava, and live a frugal and quiet life until I die.
